  10/27/19 - *Tua TagovailoaJr/2020, Alabama, 6-0, 217 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Barring some weirdness with the voters next week, Alabama-LSU will be the 26th 1 vs. 2 regular-season game, including conference championship games. The No. 1 team is 15-8-2, including LSU's 9-6 victory at Alabama in 2011, the last time 1 and 2 met in the regular season. The advent of the Bowl Championship Series in 1998, and then later the College Football Playoff, have created frequent 1-2 matchups during bowl season. Overall, No. 1 is 28-21-2. After LSU and Alabama played as 1 and 2 in the regular season, they had a rematch in the BCS championship game in January 2012 won by the Crimson Tide. Heading into that BCS championship was the last time LSU was No. 1. - AP College Football

  10/27/19 - *Mac JonesrJr/2021, Alabama, 6-3, 217 (DS#3 QB) + More +

Alabama didn't get caught looking ahead to the massive next game or slow down much even with Tua Tagovailoa stuck watching from the sidelines. Mac Jones passed for 235 yards and three touchdowns filling in for an injured Tagovailoa and the top-ranked Crimson Tide coasted to a 48-7 victory over Arkansas on Saturday night. Even without the Heisman Trophy candidate Tagovailoa, the Tide (8-0, 5-0 Southeastern Conference) raced to a 41-0 halftime lead and Jones only played one drive into the second half. The Razorbacks (2-6, 0-5) couldn't muster much challenge on either side of the ball in what turned into a drama-free tuneup for Alabama's game in two weeks against No. 2 LSU. Tide coach Nick Saban didn't have to gripe about players swallowing the "rat poison" of media and fan hype about the next game. "This was a game that if we'd taken any rat poison, we wouldn't have been focused on this game at all, based on everybody else," Saban said. "The community, the media, the fans and the questions I get asked on the radio show. "I get asked about the next game and we had this game. I was really pleased with the way they stayed focused on what they had to do in this game." Jones completed 18 of 22 passes and finished up with a 40-yarder in the end zone for his second touchdown throw to Jerry Jeudy. Jeudy caught seven passes for 103 yards with Jones & Co. proving they can still deliver some big plays even without Tagovailoa. "I felt really prepared and we were prepared," Jones said. "It's football and I've been playing since I was 5 and everybody around me has been playing since they were 5. So no big deal." - Alabama/AP College Football

  10/25/19 - *Mac JonesrJr/2021, Alabama, 6-3, 217 (DS#3 QB) + More +

Alabama's mantra of "Next man up" for overcoming injuries will be put to the test this week against Arkansas. With injured quarterback Tua Tagovailoa out, sophomore Mac Jones is in. The top-ranked Crimson Tide will turn to Jones on Saturday night against Arkansas as Tagovailoa is sidelined with a right ankle injury. Jones must go from unknown understudy to one of college football's stars to leading man -- at least for one game. "Mac's got to be the leader of the team," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "He's got to take over the team. When you're the backup player, you're a little bit like the sparring partner, but you can't be that anymore.

"You're the lead fighter. You're the top dog. You've got to do things with confidence. You've got to take command. You can't have bad body language in front of your teammates, regardless of what happens." Alabama (7-0, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) remains a 32-point favorite over the Razorbacks (2-5, 0-4), who are coming off a 51-10 loss to No. 9 Auburn. One of the main questions outside the team has already been whether Tagovailoa will return for a Nov. 9 showdown with No. 2 LSU after an open date. But first things first for Alabama. Jones gets center stage for a change after replacing Tagovailoa in the second quarter against Tennessee. "I've got as much faith in Mac as I've got in any quarterback here," Alabama tight end Miller Forristall said. - AP College Football

  10/24/19 - Najee HarrisSr/2021, Alabama, 6-1, 232 (DS#1 RB) + More +

The high ankle sprain sidelining Alabama quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Tua Tagovailoa has put more responsibility on Najee Harris and the top-ranked Crimson Tide's rushing attack. Harris responded last week by rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns and also catching four passes for 48 yards against Tennessee. Harris has rushed for over 100 yards in three of his last four games and could have another big performance Saturday when Tagovailoa sits out Alabama's game with Arkansas. - AP College Football

  10/20/19 - *Tua TagovailoaJr/2020, Alabama, 6-0, 217 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has had a procedure for a high ankle sprain and will miss Saturday's game against Arkansas. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban says Tagovailoa had what's known as a "tightrope" procedure on his right ankle Sunday. He says it's the same injury the 2018 Heisman Trophy runner-up suffered in the Southeastern Conference championship game last season, just to the other ankle. Saban predicted "a full and speedy recovery" for Tagovailoa. He was hurt in the second quarter of Alabama's 35-13 win over Tennessee. No. 1 Alabama has an open date before facing No. 2 LSU on Nov. 9. Tagovailoa promised teammates he'd be back for that game. He played in the playoff semifinal game against Oklahoma 28 days after the injury last season. - AP College Football

  10/20/19 - *Tua TagovailoaJr/2020, Alabama, 6-0, 217 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Alabama leaned on the old formula once quarterback Tua Tagovailoa went down with an ankle injury: big defensive plays and running the ball. The top-ranked Crimson Tide turned to the defense and tailback Najee Harris once the high-flying passing game was grounded, pulling out a 35-13 victory over Tennessee on Saturday night. The Tide (7-0, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) faced its first test of the season without last season's Heisman Trophy runner-up against the five-touchdown underdogs. Both starting quarterbacks left the game before halftime, and the Volunteers (2-5, 1-3) put up a fight much of the way. Tagovailoa exited with a left ankle injury in the second quarter and coach Nick Saban said he is likely to miss the next game against Arkansas. He called time before the play clock ran out after a sack.

"Tua came out of the game, I didn't even know he was hurt," Saban said. "We called timeout because the shot clock was running out. He said he felt like he twisted his ankle and Mac (Jones) had to go in. I didn't have time to give him a pep talk or anything." He told teammates he'd be "back for LSU" on Nov. 9, linebacker Terrell Lewis said. Tennessee freshman Brian Maurer had already left with a concussion for the second straight week, replaced by former starter Jarrett Guarantano. The end result was familiar: Alabama's 13th consecutive win over the rival Vols. "This is the first time we really had to grind one out and we really had to make plays," Saban said. The biggest came when Trevon Diggs recovered Guarantano's fumble on fourth-and-goal from the 1 and raced 100 yards for a touchdown to end the threat. Tennessee could have cut the deficit to a touchdown, down 28-13. - Alabama/AP College Football

  10/19/19 - *Tua TagovailoaJr/2020, Alabama, 6-0, 217 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa left in the first half against Tennessee with an ankle injury. Tagovailoa walked off the field and was taken to the sideline medical tent during the second quarter Saturday night. The 2018 Heisman Trophy runner-up then was escorted to the locker room while Mac Jones took his place. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban told ESPN Tagovailoa twisted an ankle and that he wasn't sure of the quarterback's status for the second half. Tagovailoa called a timeout just before the play clock ran out after a sack and walked to the sideline. He was 11 of 12 for 155 before the injury. Tagovailoa did throw an interception on first-and-goal from the 2 when he tried to force the ball while scrambling. - AP College Football

  10/12/19 - *Tua TagovailoaJr/2020, Alabama, 6-0, 217 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Tua Tagovailoa threw four touchdowns and Alabama's offense kept rolling in the Tide's first game at No. 1 this season with a 47-28 victory over No. 24 Texas A&M on Saturday. Tagovailoa threw his first interception of the season but became Alabama's career passing touchdowns leader with his first one of the game, breaking his tie with A.J. McCarron. The junior now has 81 for his career and leads the nation with 27 on the season. Tagovailoa shrugged off setting the school record to focus on the importance of beating Alabama's first ranked opponent of the season. "You just revert back to your training. I've experience playing at a place like Tennessee, then going to LSU, Ole Miss...Everyone wants to beat Alabama," Tagovailoa said. "We're not done yet, as a team we have to continue to grow."

Alabama (6-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) trailed briefly when Texas A&M scored a touchdown on its first possession. Tagovailoa then engineered four consecutive scoring drives, which included three touchdown passes that all came on third down, and the Tide were on cruise control against the best pass defense they had faced so far this season. The only blemish was the interception thrown in the Texas A&M end zone late in the second quarter. Tagovailoa spread the scoring around, with all of his TD strikes going to different receivers. His two longest of the day were a 47-yarder to DeVonta Smith in the first quarter and a pinpoint 33-yarder to Henry Ruggs III in the third. "I feel I have a relationship with everyone, a good connection with everyone," Tagovailoa said. Alabama didn't have to punt until there was less than 2 minutes left in the third quarter. Najee Harris rushed for 114 yards. - Alabama/AP College Football
