  12/20/25 - Ty SimpsonrJr/2026, Alabama, 6-2, 208 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Ty Simpson passed for 232 yards and two touchdowns, and No. 9 seed Alabama rallied from a 17-point deficit to beat No. 8 Oklahoma 34-24 on Friday night in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Alabama freshman Lotzeir Brooks, who did not score a touchdown in the regular season, scored two and had season highs of five catches and 79 yards. It was the third meeting between the schools in 13 months. Oklahoma defeated Alabama 24-3 last November at home, then beat the Crimson Tide 23-21 last month on the road. It was the first playoff for the Crimson Tide since coach Kalen DeBoer arrived from Washington two years ago. Alabama (11-3) advanced to play No. 1 seed Indiana and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza in a quarterfinal game at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. Oklahoma's John Mateer passed for 307 yards and two touchdowns, but he threw a costly interception that Alabama's Zabien Brown returned 50 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Deion Burks had seven catches for 107 yards and a score for the Sooners (10-3). Oklahoma's Tate Sandell, the Lou Groza Award winner for the nation's best kicker, tied an FBS single-season record for most made field goals of 50 or more yards. He drilled a 51-yarder into a stiff wind to give the Sooners a 10-0 lead late in the first quarter, his 24th consecutive made field goal. The Sooners outgained the Crimson Tide 118 yards to 12 in the opening period. Mateer's 6-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Sategna early in the second quarter pushed Oklahoma's lead to 17-0.

Alabama, which went three-and-out on its first three possessions, finally got its offense going midway through the second quarter when Simpson hit Brooks for a 10-yard score to trim Oklahoma's lead to 17-7. Later in the quarter, Brown's interception return tied the score at 17. Brooks caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Simpson early in the third quarter to give Alabama its first lead. The Crimson Tide took a 27-17 advantage on a 40-yard field goal by Conor Talty. Burks caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Mateer two plays into the fourth quarter to cut Alabama's lead to 27-24. Oklahoma had chances to stay in the game, but Sandell missed from 36 yards with just under three minutes remaining to end his streak. He missed again from 51 yards out with 1:18 to play. - Alabama/AP College Football

Ty Simpson and Isaiah Horton connected three times for touchdowns, and No. 10 Alabama escaped Auburn with a 27-20 victory in the rivalry known as the Iron Bowl on Saturday night. The Crimson Tide advanced to face fourth-ranked Georgia in the Southeastern Conference championship game next week in Atlanta. Alabama (10-2, 7-1) beat Georgia 24-21 on the road in the regular season. The Tide were on the ropes again at Jordan-Hare Stadium. After leading 17-0 early in the second quarter, they found themselves tied in the waning minutes. But Simpson found Horton on a fourth-and-2 play from the Auburn 6 with 3:50 remaining. It was their third hookup of the night, including 6- and 3-yard scores in the first half.

Simpson completed 19 of 35 passes for a season-low 122 yards. Horton finished with five catches for 35 yards, with all three scores coming in the red zone. Alabama won despite totaling 276 yards. Alabama's Jam Miller ran for 83 yards before leaving with an injury. Ashton Daniels led Auburn (5-7, 1-7) with 259 passing and 108 yards rushing. Malcolm Simmons hauled in two long passes, including a 64-yarder for a touchdown and a 66-yarder that set up a score. Daniels had the Tigers on the move late, taking advantage of a pass-interference penalty and scrambling for a first down on fourth-and-2, but star receiver Cam Coleman fumbled with 33 seconds left. - Alabama/AP College Football

Six different players scored touchdowns, including two apiece from Kevin Riley and AK Dear, and No. 10 Alabama cruised to a 56-0 win against lower-division Eastern Illinois on Saturday. Alabama (9-2) held out a few key players - receiver Germie Bernard, center Parker Brailsford and tight end Josh Cuevas - with the Iron Bowl on tap next week. Cuevas was injured in practice, and his availability moving forward is up in the air, said coach Kalen DeBoer. Even without those starters, the Crimson Tide outgained the Panthers 539-34 - hardly a surprise given one is a powerhouse program, and the other is a losing team from the Football Championship Subdivision.

The lopsided contest allowed for the majority of Alabama's roster to see playing time. Quarterbacks Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and Keelon Russell led scoring drives. Alabama ran for a season-high 269 yards, with all eight offensive touchdowns coming on the ground. Alabama's eight rushing TDs are the program's most in a game since 1979 against Vanderbilt. A lackluster ground game has been an area of emphasis for Alabama all season. The Tide rank 123rd nationally with 108.7 yards rushing a game. Alabama dominated from the onset, intercepting Eastern Illinois (3-9) on the opening possession and turning that into a touchdown. On the following possession, Alabama blocked a punt to set up another quick score. In total, 31 of Alabama's 38 first-half plays were in Eastern Illinois territory. It wasn't all good for the home team, though. Simpson threw two interceptions, giving him seven consecutive games with a turnover, and Alabama's Conor Talty missed a 28-yard field goal. Boos rained down from the Bryant-Denny Stadium crowd after Talty's miss. He was eventually replaced. - Alabama/AP College Football

  11/08/25 - Ty SimpsonrJr/2026, Alabama, 6-2, 208 (DS#2 QB) + More +

No. 4 Alabama delivered its best defensive effort in Southeastern Conference play this season and beat LSU 20-9 on Saturday night, keeping the Tigers out of the end zone for the first time since the 2012 national championship game. The Crimson Tide (8-1, 6-0 SEC, No. 4 CFP) allowed just 13 first downs and 232 yards while winning their eighth consecutive game. Alabama extended its home winning streak to 17 games, the longest in the Football Bowl Subdivision, and remained on track for a spot in the league title game and the College Football Playoff. "I feel like the defense has been pretty solid," coach Kalen DeBoer said. "There's less of the explosive plays and guys are fitting their gaps. We missed a few opportunities with the ball on the ground or in the air. I like the way the defense is playing and they'll go back to work tomorrow." Ty Simpson completed 21 of 35 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown for the Crimson Tide, but he had several missed opportunities on downfield throws that could have put the game away. "I think our guys practiced hard," DeBoer said. "There's just some things we can do better to separate ourselves in the third quarter when we have a chance to put a team away. There's been a couple games now where we haven't done that and we need to get better at it." Garrett Nussmeier completed 18 of 21 passes for 121 yards for LSU (5-4, 2-4), but he was benched in the third quarter in favor of sophomore Michael Van Buren, who completed 5 of 11 passes for 52 yards in relief.

It was a disappointing debut for LSU interim coach Frank Wilson, who took over when Brian Kelly was fired. The Tigers were penalized 10 times and were limited to nine points in four red-zone trips as they lost to the Crimson Tide for the third straight year. "I thought (Nussmeier) did some good things early on," Wilson said. "As we got into the depths of the game, we just thought it was an opportunity to change up and throw them off." A relatively modest performance by Alabama's offense - 344 total yards - was boosted by explosive plays. Simpson completed four passes of 30 or more yards in the first half; LSU had only given up five all season before Saturday. However, getting a run game that only mustered 56 yards back on track will be critical late in the season and potentially in the playoff. "We missed opportunities that will help open up the box," DeBoer said. "We've got to do a better job blocking and better job falling ahead for yards. Those extra yards can hurt them. We've got to give the running backs better lanes and we've certainly got to be better than we were." - Alabama/AP College Football

  11/03/25 - Dre Kirkpatrick Jr.So/2028, Alabama, 5-11, 202 (DS#25 SS) + More +

Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest over the weekend, coach Kalen DeBoer said Monday. Kirkpatrick was arrested Saturday on three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of attempting to elude and speeding. He was released from Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $1,500 bond. "Unfortunately, with the information that I have at this time, I talked to Dre, and we need to indefinitely suspend him," DeBoer said. "He understands there are consequences that come with his actions." Kirkpatrick, a sophomore and son of former Alabama defensive back and NFL veteran Dre Kirkpatrick, has eight tackles, including one for a loss, one pass defense and a forced fumble this season.   10/25/25 - Germie BernardSr/2026, Alabama, 6-0, 204 (DS#5 WR) + More +

Germie Bernard scored two touchdowns in the final 2 1/2 minutes, and No. 4 Alabama rallied to beat South Carolina 29-22 on Saturday for its seventh straight win. Ty Simpson threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns and DeShawn Jones returned an interception 18 yards for a score for the Crimson Tide (7-1, 5-0 Southeastern Conference). LaNorris Sellers threw for 222 yards and a touchdown and ran for 67 yards and another score for South Carolina (3-5, 1-5), but had a costly fumble late which led to the winning TD. The Tide trailed 22-14 late in the fourth quarter, but drove 79 yards on 14 plays with Simpson finding Bernard for a 4-yard touchdown pass in the left corner of the end zone with 2:16 to play.

Simpson then connected with Josh Cuevas, who caught a TD pass earlier in the game, for the 2-point conversion to tie the game. On the ensuing drive, linebacker Deontae Lawson stripped Sellers, giving Simpson and the offense the ball at the South Carolina 38. On a third-and-10 play, Bernard took a direct snap and raced around right end and stayed inbounds for a 25-yard touchdown with 34 seconds left. Alabama took a 7-3 lead in the second quarter after Sellers' pass in the flat bounced off the hands of running back Rahsul Faison and into the arms of Jones, who raced down the left sideline for a score. Mistakes haunted the Gamecocks in the first half. Along with the mishandled catch by Faison, a holding penalty negated a 15-yard TD run by Sellers. Another holding call ended a potential touchdown drive and the Gamecocks also missed a field goal. Despite the errors, South Carolina only trailed 14-6 at halftime. The Gamecocks scored the next 16 points. Nyck Harbor got behind the defense and hauled in a 54-yard touchdown strike. Sellers then used a series of runs to get South Carolina into Alabama territory and William Joyce connected on a 47-yard field goal to give the Gamecocks a 15-14 lead late in the third quarter. The Gamecocks gained full momentum when they recovered a punt that hit off an Alabama player at the Tide 30. Sellers cashed in a few plays later when he raced around left end for a 10-yard touchdown to give South Carolina a 22-14 lead with 10 minutes left. - Alabama/AP College Football

  10/19/25 - Zabien BrownSo/2028, Alabama, 6-0, 192 (DS#3 CB) + More +

Zabien Brown returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown as time expired in the first half and No. 6 Alabama rolled to a 37-20 victory over No. 11 Tennessee in the rivalry known as the "Third Saturday in October." Brown's pick gave the Tide a 23-7 lead and was all Alabama's defense needed while turning in its best performance of the season. The Tide (6-1, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) held the nation's highest-scoring offense to 410 yards, well below its 529-yard average. "I saw open field and just started running," Brown said. "Looked at the time. If I get tackled, then the time goes out. I had to find a way to get into the end zone. It feels great to go out there and perform." Ty Simpson completed 19 of 29 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns without an interception.

He led two TD drives of 90-plus yards as the Crimson Tide won their sixth consecutive game, including four in a row against ranked opponents. Alabama became the only team in SEC history to beat four straight ranked opponents with no open dates. Joey Aguilar completed 28 of 44 passes for 268 yards, with a touchdown and an interception for Tennessee (5-2, 2-2). DeSean Bishop ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns. "We just got to be us," Bishop said. "You look at our two losses, a lot of chances, a lot of self-inflicted wounds. We're hurting ourselves. We're making these games a lot harder than they should be. In this league, the margins are very small." Tennessee had a chance to seize momentum in the third quarter following a touchdown and then forcing Simpson to fumble near midfield. But Alabama's defense forced a three-and-out, and a 99-yard touchdown drive iced the game. Alabama's final touchdown, a 4-yard run by Daniel Hill with 5:49 remaining, ignited cigar smoke from every direction inside Byrant-Denny Stadium - a tradition for the victors in this rivalry. Simpson also lit one up as he left the field. Alabama prevented back Tennessee from winning consecutive games in the series for the first time since 2003-04. Alabama has won 17 of 19 in the rivalry. "The biggest thing for our guys is how committed to the process they are," DeBoer said. "You can see it. You can hear it. Pads are popping every day in practice. They have an edge to them still and haven't lost it." - Alabama/AP College Football

Alabama's Ty Simpson edged out Indiana's Fernando Mendoza for first-team quarterback on The Associated Press midseason All-America team released Wednesday. Ohio State and Texas A&M led all teams with three players each on the top unit. Nine players from the Big Ten and seven from the Southeastern Conference are on the first team, as determined by a panel of media members who vote each week in the AP Top 25 college football poll. Seven players who were on the AP preseason All-America first team also were voted to the midseason first team. Seven other preseason first-team picks are on the second team.

Since he struggled in Alabama's season-opening loss at Florida State, Simpson has completed 76% of his passes for 285 yards per game, 14 touchdowns and one interception as the Crimson Tide have won five straight. He has Pro Football Focus' fourth-highest grade among passers with more than 200 attempts. Simpson received one more vote than Mendoza, who has helped lead unbeaten Indiana to the program's highest ranking, at No. 3, and has thrown for 17 TDs against two interceptions. Texas Tech holds down two of the three first-team linebacker spots with Jacob Rodriguez and national sacks co-leader David Bailey. Alabama, Miami and Southern California also had two players on the first team. - AP College Football
