  OCT 7 BIG SOUTH OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gardner-Webb running back Jayln Cagle (Kannapolis, N.C.) rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns in Gardner-Webb's 24-21 victory at Western Carolina. Eight of his carries resulted in first downs - including a 14-yard gain on 3rd-and-13 that set up GWU's game-winning field goal attempt. Cagle's first score was a 46-yard sprint that evened the game at 7-7, and he tied the game a second time with a 2-yard plunge in the second quarter.   OCT 7 BIG SOUTH SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gardner-Webb kicker Kurt Everett (Medina, Ohio) made all three PAT attempts in addition to the game-winning 33-yard field goal as time expired to lift Gardner-Webb to its first non-conference FCS road victory since 2016. The 33-yarder was a career-best distance, and he also posted a pair of touchbacks on his kickoffs.   Kurt Everett kicked a field goal with no time remaining to lift Gardner-Webb to a 24-21 win over Western Carolina on Saturday. The score was tied 21-21 when Everett capped a grinding 16-play, 54-yard drive with a 33-yard field goal as time expired to give the Runnin' Bulldogs (2-3) the win. Kalen Whitlow threw for 194 yards and a score for Gardner-Webb. Jayln Cagle ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns.

The teams traded touchdowns early and were tied 14-all at halftime. Whitlow threw a 52-yard score to Chuma Awanna in the third quarter to put the Runnin' Bulldogs on top 21-14 but WCU answered with Tyrie Adams' touchdown run early in the fourth to make it 21-all. Gardner-Webb struggled after that until the final push, which ate up the final 4:24. Adams had 138 yards and a score passing for the Catamounts (1-4) who are winless against Division I opponents. - AP College Football

  SEPT 30/WEEK 5 OVC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bailey Fisher, QB, 5-11, 205, So., Clayton, Ga., Tennessee Tech,...Fisher tossed a school record six touchdown passes as Tennessee Tech continued its best start (4-1) since 2011 with a 40-29 win over Eastern Illinois to open OVC play. Only two players in the FCS have more than six touchdown passes in a game this season. The sophomore completed 22-of-34 passes and had touchdown passes of 5, 2, 16, 13, 11 and 27 yards.

It was the most touchdown passes by an OVC player in a game since the 2017 season. He also ran the ball 13 times for 29 yards. In just 15 games in his career, Fisher is already ninth in career passing and 10th in total offense in the Tech record book. He current ranks third nationally in points responsible for (108), eighth in rushing touchdowns (7), 14th in passing touchdowns (10) and 17th in passing yards (1,248).   Bailey Fisher threw a school-record six touchdown passes to help Tennessee Tech beat Eastern Illinois 40-29 on Saturday night and snap a seven-game skid against the Panthers. Fisher was 22-of-34 passing for 269 yards with two interceptions and completed at least one pass to 10 different receivers. The Golden Eagles (4-1, 1-0 Ohio Valley Conference) - who went 1-10 in each of the last two seasons - are off to their best start since 2011, the same year they last beat Eastern Illinois (0-5, 0-1). The Panthers have lost six in a row dating to last season.

Fisher's 5-yard touchdown pass to Austin Hicks capped a 10-play, 73-yard drive that made it 7-7 early in the second quarter and, after an interception by Aderick Moore, D.J. Wilkes' 2-yard TD reception gave Tennessee Tech the lead for good with 7:51 left in the first half. Eastern Illinois fumbled on its next play from scrimmage, setting up a 16-yard scoring strike from Fisher to Darrius Stafford 21 seconds later. EIU went three-and-out on its first possession of the second half before Hicks had a 13-yard touchdown catch and, after the Panthers failed to convert on fourth-and-4 at the Tennessee Tech 28, Fisher hit Stafford for an 11-yard TD to make it 35-7 midway through the third quarter. Harry Woodbery was 34 of 68 for 334 yards and two scores, and Jaelin Benefield had two rushing touchdowns, for Eastern Illinois. - AP College Football

It marked the first non-conference road win for the program since 2013 and gives the team its first 3-1 start since the 2011 season. The sophomore completed 23-of-37 passes for 314 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and a 17-yard score just before halftime.

With his feet Bailey carried the ball 13 times for 90 yards (6.9 ypc) and scores of 6, 1 and 26 yards. His final touchdown, a 26-yard run with 4:47 to play iced the game. Fisher ranks third nationally in rushing touchdowns (7), fifth in total touchdowns (7), 15th in points responsible for (18.0/game) and scoring (11.0 points/game), 25th in total passing yards (979) and 27th in total offense (274.8 yards/game).   SEPT 2/WEEK 1 OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bailey Fisher, QB. 5-11, 205, So., Clayton, Ga., Tennessee Tech,...Fisher accounted for 463 yards of total offense, five touchdowns (2 passing, 3 rushing) and three two-point conversions as Tennessee Tech overcame a 23-point deficit to top Samford 59-58 in double overtime. From the 0:51 mark in the third quarter, Fisher threw two touchdowns passes, rushed for three touchdowns, then also completed three of four 2-point conversions, including the game-tying (rush) to send the game to overtime. The final two touchdowns and two-point conversions came in the final 1:18 of regulation, as Tech had trailed 44-28 with 2:20 to play. After the teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime, Samford took a lead on the first possession of the second extra period.

Following a touchdown run by Andrew Fleming, Bailey converted the winning two-point conversion, a pass to David Gist, to give his team the win. Fisher finished the game 31-of-44 for 415 yards and two touchdowns (no interceptions) and rushed 13 times for 48 yards and three touchdowns. The 415 passing yards and the 463 yards of total offense were each the third-best performances in TTU history. In addition, Fisher also punted the ball twice for 76 yards, pinning both inside the Samford 20-yard line.   Bailey Fisher threw for two touchdowns and ran for three more as Tennessee Tech built a big lead and cruised past Western Illinois, 38-24 in a nonconference game Saturday night. Fisher hit Darrius Stafford with a 31-yard scoring pass in the first quarter and Tavin Kilpatrick from 17-yards out in the second as the Golden Eagles built a 14-3 halftime lead. Fisher then ran 6 yards for a score to open the third quarter and a yard out early in the fourth to put Tennessee Tech (3-1) up 31-10. After Western Illinois' Kevin Johnson threw two touchdown passes in less than a minute to get with one score, Fisher scampered 26 yards with 4:47 left to put the game out of reach. Fisher was 23-of-37 passing for 314 yards, but was picked off twice. He ran for 90 yards on 13 carries.
