Missouri senior tight end Daniel Parker Jr. was arrested by Columbia police on Wednesday for failing to appear in court for a speeding ticket issued last fall. Parker was already serving a two-year probation term for a 2019 misdemeanor traffic violation for operating a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, according to online court records. Last October, Parker was cited for exceeding the speed limit by 20-25 mph by Columbia police and did not attend scheduled court appearances in January and March, leading to a warrant for his arrest. The warrant was served Wednesday and Parker posted bond for $232. Failure to appear in court is considered a Class A misdemeanor if the matter involves a misdemeanor violation. - Post-Dispatch

On the practice field Tuesday, OU sixth-year linebacker Caleb Kelly had a breakthrough. "Today was the first day where my body kind of caught up," Kelly said. "It's weird with the knee. Some practices you'll be fast and then some practices you will be really slow and you'll say, 'I was just good.' "There's a lot of up and down with it. When you are making a play, your angles have to change when one day you are fast, one day you are slower. It's hard to do that." Coming back from his second devastating knee injury in as many years, Kelly is hoping the fast days start to greatly outweigh the slow days. Sooners inside linebackers coach Brian Odom said Kelly's improvement this spring has been noticeable. "There's been a jump," Odom said. "He's more fluid. The things he's seeing, he's processing faster. The thing with it is it makes you excited for Caleb, not only because of his size and knowledge, also very excited for him as a person after all he's been through here at the university." Watching OU games mostly from his Texas home surrounded by family last season, Kennedy Brooks definitely felt the tug to be back on the field with the Sooners. "It was hard," Brooks said Wednesday in his first public comments since making the decision to opt out of the 2020 season. "I really wanted to go out there and actually play but I was just watching every game, cheering on my boys, and just hoping everything worked out well for them." Brooks said his decision to opt out stemmed from concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty of the situation heading into the season.

Brooks was joined by defensive lineman Jalen Redmond and offensive lineman Stacey Wilkins in opting out among Sooners. "It was really just for me and my family's sakes," Brooks said. "With COVID really high and everything, we chose the best just to sit out for my health because we didn't really know anything about COVID, all the uncertainties, all the everything." But spending Saturdays on the couch watching instead of on the field left him longing for more with the Sooners. "I really love the game," Brooks said. "I really love playing at OU. I just wanted to play with my boys one more time just to be able to come back and just see what I can do." Brooks has topped the 1,000-yard mark in each of his two seasons on the field for OU, rushing for 18 touchdowns in the 2018-19 seasons. - Daily Oklahoman

North Texas coach Seth Littrell has quite the history when it comes to coaching tight ends. Working with players at the position was part of his responsibilities at Arizona, Indiana and North Carolina. All coaches who have been in the college game at a high level for as long as Littrell list a few high-level NFL players they have coached. One of Littrell's top former players is legendary tight end Rob Gronkowski, who played at Arizona. Littrell has long vowed to make tight ends a bigger part of UNT's offense and has made headway in that regard. Jason Pirtle has been a key contributor late in his career. Late last season, it appeared as if Jake Roberts was in position to emerge as the heir apparent at the position. The freshman caught four passes for 49 yards and started two of UNT's last four regular season games. That experience should pay off for Roberts, who was one of UNT's higher-rated recruits in its 2020 class. Marvin Mims enrolled at Oklahoma in time for its spring semester a year ago, angling to take advantage of OU's offseason programs. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic denied the 5-foot-11 receiver from Frisco, Texas, his opportunity to go through spring football practices, but his production as a true freshman never suggested he wasn't ready to provide to the Sooner offense. Mims' athleticism helped him thrive in his first year, but his ability to bring down tough catches made him one of OU quarterback Spencer Rattler's most reliable targets. "He made the ones he was supposed to make, then he made several that were competitive balls," OU coach Lincoln Riley said. "That's a lot of times what separates elite players. He was able to pick it up mentally and kept producing. We honestly probably should have played him a little bit more than we did."

Perhaps Mims could have built more trust had he went through a proper spring camp. Still, Mims didn't let the pandemic, which kept OU away from on-campus workouts from mid-March to early July, affect his preparation. "I was at a disadvantage, but so were the other guys coming in during the summer, because they missed so much time, too," Mims said. "Basically, I was just staying on myself, making myself get up every day, do the extra stuff I needed to do and from the playbook, it was all just memorization, just mental." - Norman Transcript

One of the two five-star prospects to sign with Tennessee football during Jeremy Pruitt's tenure is looking to transfer. Offensive tackle Wanya Morris entered the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday. He is the 10th scholarship Vol to enter the portal since Dec. 1 and the biggest hit to Tennessee's roster yet. Morris was the No. 28 prospect and No. 6 offensive tackle nationally in the 247Sports Composite for the 2019 class out of Grayson (Georgia) High School. Darnell Wright, the No. 10 prospect in 2019, is only higher-ranked prospect to sign with the Vols under Pruitt's watch.
