  04/19/21 - Mikey HendersonSo/2024, Oklahoma, 6-1, 245 (DS#999 FB) + More +

One of the latest additions to Oklahoma's running backs room wasn't caught off guard when he was asked to change positions. Mikey Henderson, an OU sophomore, switched from h-back to running back this offseason and knew his role might not always be the same when the Sooners recruited him out of Ranchview High School in Irving, Texas. OU coach Lincoln Riley told Henderson, the hulking athlete that can make plays on the ground and through the air, he wouldn't be limited to one position. The versatility he brings to the Sooners' offense was too valuable not to use him at multiple spots. "He can do a lot of things for us," Riley said. "He played in the backfield a lot for us last year too, so in a lot of ways, what we're doing with him right now is just an extension of that." Riley first brought up the move to Henderson after OU's Cotton Bowl win over Florida. Henderson was coming off of his freshman season, where he rushed for 81 yards on nine carries and caught 12 passes for 168 yards. He scored two touchdowns as well. - Norman Transcript

  04/17/21 - Phil PaearSr/2024, Oklahoma, 6-3, 305 (DS#999 DT) + More +

Michigan defensive lineman Phillip Paea has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer. Paea, whose name appeared Wednesday, shared his decision in a post on Twitter. Paea arrived at Michigan in 2017 from Berrien Springs and did not play that fall. He started his career as an offensive lineman and played in two games in 2018. He moved to defensive line and played sparingly, including one appearance last season. He is the third Michigan player this month to enter his name in the portal and all are defensive players. Linebacker William Mohan, a viper in the previous defense, and defensive back Hunter Reynolds are also in the portal. - Ann Arbor News

  04/16/21 - Jalen RedmondrJr/2023, Oklahoma, 6-2, 291 (DS#17 DT) + More +

Jalen Redmond didn't want to do it anymore. After opting out before last season, there came a time when the OU defensive lineman wanted to forget about his preseason decision and go back all-in with the Sooners. Watching the success that his roommate, Isaiah Thomas, had in Thomas' breakout 2020 season made coming back that much more appealing. "There was a point that I wanted to come back," Redmond said. "But I knew I had to do what I had to do." Redmond didn't want to give up a season of playing football, especially when two years earlier he didn't know if he'd ever be able to play the sport again.

But the health problems that kept him out for all but three games his freshman season in 2018 were what led him to the decision to sit out in 2020. "With COVID and everything that was going on - it's a respiratory thing and with my past history with blood clots and those things, me and my family just thought it was the best idea to sit out," Redmond said. "It was, shoot, one of the hardest decisions I had to make, especially coming off the year before. It was a hard decision but I had to do what was right for my health and my body." - Daily Oklahoman

  04/11/21 - Eric GraySr/2023, Oklahoma, 5-10, 205 (DS#13 RB) + More +

Eric Gray had little doubt about where he wanted to transfer following two seasons with Tennessee. The 5-foot-10 running back, who rushed for 772 yards and four touchdowns last season, realized a major opportunity awaited him at Oklahoma. "Just looking at the past, you see how great the offense is," Gray said. "I saw myself and how great I could fit into the offense just playing for a guy like Lincoln Riley and having a position coach like DeMarco Murray, someone who's played in the [NFL], who's been there before, it was just all-around amazing." Gray acted on his instinct, transferred to OU and is practicing with the team this spring. He's only had a couple of months to get acclimated with OU's running backs group, which must replace 2020 starter and NFL-bound running back Rhamondre Stevenson this coming season. Gray's transition has been smooth so far, according to Murray, who's entering his second year as OU's running backs coach. "The first word that comes to mind about Eric Gray is a pro," Murray said. "He's a true pro on and off the field. He's a guy that shows up early, stays late, extremely smart. The transition for him offensively, scheme-wise has been very, honestly, easy for him. And our offense is extremely complicated." - Norman Transcript

  04/11/21 - Daniel Parker Jr.rSr/2023, Oklahoma, 6-2, 243 (DS#21 FB) + More +

Missouri senior tight end Daniel Parker Jr. was arrested by Columbia police on Wednesday for failing to appear in court for a speeding ticket issued last fall. Parker was already serving a two-year probation term for a 2019 misdemeanor traffic violation for operating a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, according to online court records. Last October, Parker was cited for exceeding the speed limit by 20-25 mph by Columbia police and did not attend scheduled court appearances in January and March, leading to a warrant for his arrest. The warrant was served Wednesday and Parker posted bond for $232. Failure to appear in court is considered a Class A misdemeanor if the matter involves a misdemeanor violation. - Post-Dispatch

  04/09/21 - Caleb KellyrSr/2022, Oklahoma, 6-2, 232 (DS#999 ILB) + More +

On the practice field Tuesday, OU sixth-year linebacker Caleb Kelly had a breakthrough. "Today was the first day where my body kind of caught up," Kelly said. "It's weird with the knee. Some practices you'll be fast and then some practices you will be really slow and you'll say, 'I was just good.' "There's a lot of up and down with it. When you are making a play, your angles have to change when one day you are fast, one day you are slower. It's hard to do that." Coming back from his second devastating knee injury in as many years, Kelly is hoping the fast days start to greatly outweigh the slow days. Sooners inside linebackers coach Brian Odom said Kelly's improvement this spring has been noticeable. "There's been a jump," Odom said. "He's more fluid. The things he's seeing, he's processing faster. The thing with it is it makes you excited for Caleb, not only because of his size and knowledge, also very excited for him as a person after all he's been through here at the university." Kelly certainly has been through quite a bit. - Daily Oklahoman

  04/03/21 - Kennedy BrooksrSr/2022, Oklahoma, 5-11, 209 (DS#12 RB) + More +

Watching OU games mostly from his Texas home surrounded by family last season, Kennedy Brooks definitely felt the tug to be back on the field with the Sooners. "It was hard," Brooks said Wednesday in his first public comments since making the decision to opt out of the 2020 season. "I really wanted to go out there and actually play but I was just watching every game, cheering on my boys, and just hoping everything worked out well for them." Brooks said his decision to opt out stemmed from concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty of the situation heading into the season.

Brooks was joined by defensive lineman Jalen Redmond and offensive lineman Stacey Wilkins in opting out among Sooners. "It was really just for me and my family's sakes," Brooks said. "With COVID really high and everything, we chose the best just to sit out for my health because we didn't really know anything about COVID, all the uncertainties, all the everything." But spending Saturdays on the couch watching instead of on the field left him longing for more with the Sooners. "I really love the game," Brooks said. "I really love playing at OU. I just wanted to play with my boys one more time just to be able to come back and just see what I can do." Brooks has topped the 1,000-yard mark in each of his two seasons on the field for OU, rushing for 18 touchdowns in the 2018-19 seasons. - Daily Oklahoman

  04/02/21 - Jake RobertsrSr/2025, Oklahoma, 6-5, 246 (DS#51 TE) + More +

North Texas coach Seth Littrell has quite the history when it comes to coaching tight ends. Working with players at the position was part of his responsibilities at Arizona, Indiana and North Carolina. All coaches who have been in the college game at a high level for as long as Littrell list a few high-level NFL players they have coached. One of Littrell's top former players is legendary tight end Rob Gronkowski, who played at Arizona. Littrell has long vowed to make tight ends a bigger part of UNT's offense and has made headway in that regard. Jason Pirtle has been a key contributor late in his career. Late last season, it appeared as if Jake Roberts was in position to emerge as the heir apparent at the position. The freshman caught four passes for 49 yards and started two of UNT's last four regular season games. That experience should pay off for Roberts, who was one of UNT's higher-rated recruits in its 2020 class. The Oklahoma native passed on offers from Colorado and Memphis to sign with the Mean Green. - Denton Record

  03/28/21 - *Marvin Mims Jr.Jr/2023, Oklahoma, 5-11, 183 (DS#9 WR) + More +

Marvin Mims enrolled at Oklahoma in time for its spring semester a year ago, angling to take advantage of OU's offseason programs. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic denied the 5-foot-11 receiver from Frisco, Texas, his opportunity to go through spring football practices, but his production as a true freshman never suggested he wasn't ready to provide to the Sooner offense. Mims' athleticism helped him thrive in his first year, but his ability to bring down tough catches made him one of OU quarterback Spencer Rattler's most reliable targets. "He made the ones he was supposed to make, then he made several that were competitive balls," OU coach Lincoln Riley said. "That's a lot of times what separates elite players. He was able to pick it up mentally and kept producing. We honestly probably should have played him a little bit more than we did."

Perhaps Mims could have built more trust had he went through a proper spring camp. Still, Mims didn't let the pandemic, which kept OU away from on-campus workouts from mid-March to early July, affect his preparation. "I was at a disadvantage, but so were the other guys coming in during the summer, because they missed so much time, too," Mims said. "Basically, I was just staying on myself, making myself get up every day, do the extra stuff I needed to do and from the playbook, it was all just memorization, just mental." - Norman Transcript

Oklahoma will host its annual spring game on April 24 at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The program announced the intrasquad scrimmage will start at 4 p.m. and be televised on FOX Sports Oklahoma. While OU plans to return to full capacity for its upcoming football season, the stadium will remain at 25% capacity, which is the same seating maximum OU placed on its 2020 home games, for the Sooners' 2021 spring game. OU will open a presale period to season-ticket holders starting March 25 for Champions Society and premium seat holders, March 29 for Sooner Club members and March 31 for public season-ticket holders. - Norman Transcript

  03/25/21 - Jeremiah CriddellrJr/2024, Oklahoma, 5-11, 198 (DS#999 CB) + More +

The Sooners must replace several contributors in their secondary this fall, including nickelback Brendan Radley-Hiles, who transferred to Washington and started over Criddell last season, as well as NFL-bound defensive backs Tre Brown and Tre Norwood. "Criddell's one that we're really excited to see this spring that really closed the season strong and has had a tremendous offseason," Riley said ahead of the Sooners' spring practices, which started Monday. "[He's] a guy that we've got a ton of confidence in right now." Delarrin Turner-Yell, a veteran among OU's defensive backs, echoed Riley's sentiment.

Criddell played in three games his freshman year and appeared in 11 last season, which included a start against Baylor. While the Santa Ana, California, product has yet to emerge as a primary option in OU defensive coordinator Alex Grinch's rotation, he's won the trust of his teammates by how he's approached his first two years on campus. "Anytime we have a break or something like that, and then we come back to do DB drills, or like right now, how we came back for spring ball," Turner-Yell said, "you always see some type of improvement from him." - Norman Transcript

Wanya Morris, a former five-star offensive tackle recruit and two-year starter at Tennessee, is coming to Oklahoma. Morris, who's listed at 6-foot-5 and and 320 pounds, announced he will be transferring to OU following his sophomore season in Knoxville, Tennessee. Morris provides the Sooners' offensive line, which loses starters Creed Humphrey and Adrian Ealy from 2020's squad, with a proven commodity at tackle. He is likely to challenge returning starter Erik Swenson and key freshman reserve Anton Harrison for a starting position in 2021. Morris was also considering Texas A&M and Southern Cal before ultimately picking OU. - Norman Transcript

One of the two five-star prospects to sign with Tennessee football during Jeremy Pruitt's tenure is looking to transfer. Offensive tackle Wanya Morris entered the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday. He is the 10th scholarship Vol to enter the portal since Dec. 1 and the biggest hit to Tennessee's roster yet. Morris was the No. 28 prospect and No. 6 offensive tackle nationally in the 247Sports Composite for the 2019 class out of Grayson (Georgia) High School. Darnell Wright, the No. 10 prospect in 2019, is only higher-ranked prospect to sign with the Vols under Pruitt's watch. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Morris played in 22 games with 19 starts in two seasons. Morris played in all 13 games and started 12 at left tackle as a freshman in 2019. He was named to the freshman All-SEC team. - Knoxville News Sentinel
