Three-year Tulane starting nose tackle Jeffery Johnson has entered the transfer portal ahead of his fourth season, Rivals.com tweeted Wednesday afternoon. Johnson, a Brookhaven, Mississippi product listed at 6-foot-3, 330 pounds, started all 12 games as a junior in 2020, finishing with 33 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and two fumble recoveries. He started nine games in 2019 and all but one of Tulane's 13 games as a freshman in 2018, excelling at taking on double teams and holding his position. - New Orleans Times Picayune

  05/10/21 - Drake StoopsrSr/2024, Oklahoma, 5-10, 186 (DS#46 WR) + More +

Drake Stoops got a scholarship. Finally. All the OU walk-on receiver did last season was catch pretty much anything thrown at him, including the biggest touchdown of them all in overtime against Texas. He blocked with relentlessness. He ran pre-snap motion with abandon. He earned the scholarship Sooner coach Lincoln Riley awarded him after the spring game a couple weeks ago. Now, did Stoops need it? Not financially. Stoops, of course, is the son of legendary OU coach Bob Stoops. People who portend they know such things have estimated the net worth of the elder Stoops to be somewhere between $10 million and $20 million. Jeff Bezos, he's not, but Stoops probably isn't clipping coupons or hitting yard sales. Drake getting a scholarship doesn't change his family's finances a ton - but that doesn't mean he didn't deserve it. "I know it meant a great deal to him," Riley said on Thursday on a Zoom call. "There's occasionally families that are fortunate and well off and maybe the monetary aspect of it is not a big deal. "But it was a big, big deal to that kid, no question." - Daily Oklahoman

  05/10/21 - DaJon TerryrSr/2025, Oklahoma, 6-3, 317 (DS#99 DT) + More +

It didn't take long for another Power Five program to welcome in Da'Jon Terry once the former Kansas football defensive lineman opted to leave the Jayhawks. Four days after Terry announced he was entering the transfer portal, the athletic young tackle committed on Sunday evening to play at Tennessee. A redshirt sophomore who completed the spring practice schedule with KU, only to transition out of the program just as new head coach Lance Leipold came in, Terry was listed at 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds most recently with the Jayhawks. Terry became the first key player on KU's roster to decide to transfer as Leipold came in as the new head coach. Terry was essentially a lock to start on KU's defensive line in 2021 before the sophomore from Meridian, Miss., decided to move on, quickly landing in the SEC. - Lawrence Journal World

  05/08/21 - Reggie PearsonrSr/2024, Oklahoma, 5-10, 201 (DS#57 SS) + More +

Reggie Pearson, a starting safety on Wisconsin's 10-win Rose Bowl team from two seasons ago, has signed a financial aid agreement with Texas Tech, according to an announcement Wednesday. Pearson left the Badgers because the team medical staff had not cleared him for any athletics activity since March 2020, his father recently told The Athletic. Reggie Pearson, a starting safety on Wisconsin's 10-win Rose Bowl team from two seasons ago, has signed a financial aid agreement to transfer to Texas Tech, the Tech athletics department announced Wednesday. Pearson was the Badgers' fourth-leading tackler in 2019 with 60 stops, as well as getting credit for 3 1/2 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and four passes defended. He was a redshirt freshman that season, starting at strong safety on a 10-4 team that lost to Oregon in the Rose Bowl. - Lubbock Avalanche Journal

  05/08/21 - DaJon TerryrSr/2025, Oklahoma, 6-3, 317 (DS#99 DT) + More +

The first Kansas football team coach Lance Leipold leads onto the field in the fall won't include one of his predecessor's most promising young defensive linemen. Da'Jon Terry, who would've been a redshirt sophomore and was a near lock to start at defensive tackle for the Jayhawks in 2021, announced Wednesday his intentions to enter the NCAA's transfer portal and leave KU. Rated a two-star prospect by Rivals when he signed with KU in the Class of 2019, shortly after Miles took over the program, Terry redshirted his first season. In 2020, the big and agile nose tackle emerged as one of the more important players for the program's future, showing flashes of potential and even starting two games as a redshirt freshman on the defensive line. Terry recorded 14 total tackles while appearing in eight games, and also made two sacks. - Lawrence Journal World

  05/03/21 - Rhamondre StevensonSr/2021, Oklahoma, 6-0, 231 (DS#14 RB) + More +

The New England Patriots made sure Oklahoma running back Rhamondre Stevenson didn't wait long to hear his name on Day 3 of the NFL draft. The Patriots used a fourth-round pick on Stevenson, who became the 120th overall pick in the draft on Saturday. "Rhamondre had a short career here in a lot of ways, but he did really make the most of his time," OU coach Lincoln Riley said. "He broke so many tackles. I think that's probably the biggest thing that stands out for him - he's always had the ability to break tackles to get around guys, to run through guys. "He has a very low center of gravity and just not much to tackle. He really improved his body, his conditioning level and his understanding of our offense, which allowed him to have a really strong back half of the season for us this past year." Despite missing five games last season, Stevenson finished his final season at OU with 665 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. - Norman Transcript

  04/28/21 - Caleb KellyrSr/2022, Oklahoma, 6-2, 232 (DS#999 ILB) + More +

Caleb Kelly can't escape the jokes. Just this spring, OU defensive coordinator Alex Grinch slipped one in. Standing in front of the room, Grinch ended a phrase with "even like eight years ago, Caleb Kelly." Even head coach Lincoln Riley recently got a shot in about Kelly's extended college career. "I'm used to it now because it's been going on for like two years now," Kelly said. "Now here on like my third senior year, 'Oh yeah, I'm the old guy. I get it.' "But it's funny when they joke about six years and it's actually my sixth year."

Kelly is a 23-year-old linebacker. This September will mark his sixth season with the Sooners. He's the last player from the Bob Stoops era. It's why Kelly was beaming after actually playing in Saturday's annual spring game - his first meaningful action in pads in front of fans for the first time since Dec. 28, 2019 in the Peach Bowl. "I thought about it this morning when I woke up," Kelly said. "First off, I woke up today. That's a blessing thinking about all the people that didn't. Then I go get to play football. "It's been so long." - Daily Oklahoman

  04/24/21 - Andrew RaymSr/2024, Oklahoma, 6-4, 314 (DS#12 C) + More +

Early in spring practice, OU football coach Lincoln Riley went through the list of players getting work at center as the Sooners work to find a replacement for Creed Humphrey. Riley went through four names - Chris Murray, Ian McIver, Robert Congel and Nate Anderson. Andrew Raym wasn't among that group. But speaking Wednesday, three days before OU's Saturday spring game, which kicks off at 4 p.m. and will be televised on Bally Sports Oklahoma, Raym appears to be getting not only a hard look at the spot but might be in best position to start the season there. "I've worked myself into a center spot now and I'm taking those reps with the first team," Raym said. "I love center. I love being out there commanding the offense." Humphrey's departure leaves a significant hole to fill for Bill Bedenbaugh's group and finding that replacement has been at the top of the Sooners' offensive priority list through the spring. Raym, a Broken Arrow product, didn't see time at center in high school, making his debut at the position at the Under Armour All-America Game in January 2020. Last season, he worked exclusively at guard, seeing action at left guard in a reserve role and carving out a role on special teams as well as he played in 10 games as a freshman. - Daily Oklahoman

  04/23/21 - Perrion WinfreySr/2022, Oklahoma, 6-4, 290 (DS#4 DT) + More +

A flurry of NFL draft declarations hit Oklahoma as it wrapped its 2020 season and followed it into the offseason. Perhaps Perrion Winfrey, the first-year Sooner defensive lineman, could have joined the likes of defensive end Ronnie Perkins and defensive backs Tre Brown and Tre Norwood in taking a crack at the pros. Winfrey, a second-team All-Big 12 selection, had a knack for getting in the backfield. He accumulated 19 tackles, six tackles for loss and three pass breakups in his debut OU season. He also blocked a field-goal attempt against Texas during the third of four overtime periods in the 2020 Red River Showdown.

Winfrey, a 6-foot-3 defensive tackle starter, decided it wasn't quite time to leave school. "Honestly, I didn't explore it all too much," Winfrey said. "I wanted to stay another year, and perfect my craft even more." The move ought to serve Winfrey well a year from now. His position coach, Calvin Thibodeaux, certainly sees a gifted player, who could benefit from more time to develop both physically and mentally. Winfrey, who was listed at 297 pounds last season, said he's focused on his weight and improving his flexibility, which he felt hindered his ability at times to finish plays in the backfield. - Norman Transcript

  04/22/21 - Michael Woods IISr/2022, Oklahoma, 6-2, 203 (DS#60 WR) + More +

Arkansas receiver Mike Woods is entering the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer. Woods, who played three seasons for the Razorbacks and had career highs in receiving yards and touchdown catches last season, made the announcement in a post to his Twitter account on Tuesday. Woods did not offer an explanation for his decision to transfer, which came three days after the Razorbacks concluded spring practice with the Red-White Game. Woods had two receptions for 40 yards during the scrimmage, including a 33-yard touchdown. Arkansas coach Sam Pittman has not commented on Woods' transfer. Woods was expected to be one of the Razorbacks' top playmakers in 2021. He caught 32 passes for a career-high 619 yards and 5 touchdowns last season, and was a deep-ball favorite of quarterback Feleipe Franks. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  04/19/21 - Mikey HendersonSo/2024, Oklahoma, 6-1, 245 (DS#999 FB) + More +

One of the latest additions to Oklahoma's running backs room wasn't caught off guard when he was asked to change positions. Mikey Henderson, an OU sophomore, switched from h-back to running back this offseason and knew his role might not always be the same when the Sooners recruited him out of Ranchview High School in Irving, Texas. OU coach Lincoln Riley told Henderson, the hulking athlete that can make plays on the ground and through the air, he wouldn't be limited to one position. The versatility he brings to the Sooners' offense was too valuable not to use him at multiple spots. "He can do a lot of things for us," Riley said. "He played in the backfield a lot for us last year too, so in a lot of ways, what we're doing with him right now is just an extension of that." Riley first brought up the move to Henderson after OU's Cotton Bowl win over Florida. Henderson was coming off of his freshman season, where he rushed for 81 yards on nine carries and caught 12 passes for 168 yards. He scored two touchdowns as well. - Norman Transcript

  04/17/21 - Phil PaearSr/2024, Oklahoma, 6-3, 305 (DS#999 DT) + More +

Michigan defensive lineman Phillip Paea has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer. Paea, whose name appeared Wednesday, shared his decision in a post on Twitter. Paea arrived at Michigan in 2017 from Berrien Springs and did not play that fall. He started his career as an offensive lineman and played in two games in 2018. He moved to defensive line and played sparingly, including one appearance last season. He is the third Michigan player this month to enter his name in the portal and all are defensive players. Linebacker William Mohan, a viper in the previous defense, and defensive back Hunter Reynolds are also in the portal. - Ann Arbor News

  04/16/21 - Jalen RedmondrJr/2023, Oklahoma, 6-2, 291 (DS#17 DT) + More +

Jalen Redmond didn't want to do it anymore. After opting out before last season, there came a time when the OU defensive lineman wanted to forget about his preseason decision and go back all-in with the Sooners. Watching the success that his roommate, Isaiah Thomas, had in Thomas' breakout 2020 season made coming back that much more appealing. "There was a point that I wanted to come back," Redmond said. "But I knew I had to do what I had to do." Redmond didn't want to give up a season of playing football, especially when two years earlier he didn't know if he'd ever be able to play the sport again.

But the health problems that kept him out for all but three games his freshman season in 2018 were what led him to the decision to sit out in 2020. "With COVID and everything that was going on - it's a respiratory thing and with my past history with blood clots and those things, me and my family just thought it was the best idea to sit out," Redmond said. "It was, shoot, one of the hardest decisions I had to make, especially coming off the year before. It was a hard decision but I had to do what was right for my health and my body." - Daily Oklahoman

  04/11/21 - Eric GraySr/2023, Oklahoma, 5-10, 205 (DS#13 RB) + More +

Eric Gray had little doubt about where he wanted to transfer following two seasons with Tennessee. The 5-foot-10 running back, who rushed for 772 yards and four touchdowns last season, realized a major opportunity awaited him at Oklahoma. "Just looking at the past, you see how great the offense is," Gray said. "I saw myself and how great I could fit into the offense just playing for a guy like Lincoln Riley and having a position coach like DeMarco Murray, someone who's played in the [NFL], who's been there before, it was just all-around amazing." Gray acted on his instinct, transferred to OU and is practicing with the team this spring. He's only had a couple of months to get acclimated with OU's running backs group, which must replace 2020 starter and NFL-bound running back Rhamondre Stevenson this coming season. Gray's transition has been smooth so far, according to Murray, who's entering his second year as OU's running backs coach. "The first word that comes to mind about Eric Gray is a pro," Murray said. "He's a true pro on and off the field. He's a guy that shows up early, stays late, extremely smart. The transition for him offensively, scheme-wise has been very, honestly, easy for him. And our offense is extremely complicated." - Norman Transcript
