  10/12/20 - Kenny YeboahrSr/2021, Mississippi, 6-4, 250 (DS#8 TE) + More +

Six catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns for tight end Kenny Yeboah. Running backs Jerrion Ealy and Conner Snoop catching two passes for 33 yards. Alabama's pass defense is susceptible to passes to running backs and tight ends, a weakness Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin exploited early and often. UA is facing a Georgia team with plenty of threats at both positions next week and several more over the course of the season. While it did not cost UA a game against the Rebels, it very well could in the future. - Montgomery Advertiser

Rebels quarterback Matt Corral hit receiver Elijah Moore with a 3-yard touchdown pass in overtime and Luke Logan's extra point pushed Mississippi past Kentucky 42-41 on Saturday night. Running back Chris Rodriguez's 1-yard run for Kentucky with 2:04 remaining eventually forced OT, and quarterback Terry Wilson's 10-yard rushing touchdown gave the Wildcats the initial lead. But Matt Ruffolo missed the extra point, opening the door for the Rebels (1-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) to rally again for the win. Five-yard runs by Corral and John Rhys Plumlee were followed by a defensive pass interference penalty on Kentucky defensive back Kelvin Joseph in the end zone.

Corral hit Moore two plays later, and Logan easily converted the PAT to give Lane Kiffin his first win with the Rebels and spark a wild celebration. The Rebels trailed 28-14 early in the third quarter before Corral, who threw four touchdowns, tossed scoring passes of 24 and 16 yards to Jonathan Mingo to tie the game early in the fourth quarter. The drives covered 75 and 54 yards and just 2:54 combined. After taking over on downs, Ole Miss used just 47 seconds to go 53 yards and go ahead on Snoop Conner's 1-yard touchdown run with 8:23 remaining. Corral passed for 320 yards and four touchdowns, including two to Jonathan Mingo and another to Kenny Yeboah. Conner rushed for a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Jerrion Ealy scored the game's first score. - Mississippi/AP College Football

  10/02/20 - Otis ReeserSr/2023, Mississippi, 6-3, 214 (DS#12 SS) + More +

Despite a statement from SEC commissioner Greg Sankey approving a number of intraconference transfers for 2020, Ole Miss safety Otis Reese is still not cleared to play. According to confirmation from an Ole Miss spokesperson, Reese's transfer request has still not yet been cleared by the NCAA. Reese transferred to Ole Miss from Georgia in January and has been seeking appeal since arriving. Sankey issued a statement on Wednesday evening in support of special case waivers for players in positions such as Reese's for this season. Reese is one of three high-profile intraconference SEC transfers this season. Tennessee offensive linemen Cade Mays (formerly of Georgia) and Kentucky quarterback Joey Gatewood (formerly of Auburn) have both reportedly been granted eligibility as of Wednesday. - Mississippi Clarion Ledger

Top TCU running back recruit Zach Evans could see his first game action against Texas. Evans didn't play in the season opener against Iowa State. Coach Gary Patterson said Tuesday during a Zoom media availability that Evans had missed nearly a month worth of workouts because of COVID-19 contact tracing. Evans did have a good practice Sunday, Patterson said. "As he keeps moving forward, if he keeps doing that he'll have an opportunity to get in the ball game," Patterson said. - Dallas Morning News

If you watch Ulysses Bentley IV now, you see a dominant, physical and fast running back who is just at the start of a potentially monster season for SMU. He's someone who looks like he belongs, and knows it. If you rewind to around three years ago, Bentley IV was so inexperienced with the whole recruiting process, he hadn't even realized SMU offered him a scholarship. In fact, Bentley IV went a whole week after wide receivers coach David Gru offered him a spot before he understood what that meant. "I had asked my coach," Bentley IV said, "and he was like, 'Yeah, they offered you. And then [SMU special teams] coach [Chris] Brasfield, he came down, and he told me, 'Yeah, we offered you.' It was the first offer for a player who didn't receive many, and it was the one he went on to accept. And there's no confusion now over whether the sophomore phenom belongs. He has seven touchdowns in three games - a feat matched by only five others in SMU history.

Bentley IV leads the country with 380 rushing yards and is tied for first in touchdowns. And that's with SMU using three running backs in its rotation. Bentley IV makes the most of his chances, carrying the ball 10.6 yards per touch. "I think he'll continue to get stronger in the weight room," said head coach Sonny Dykes. "We knew he could run. He played option quarterback really in high school so you could see his ability to run and his ability to lead a team. We were impressed with his speed and his vision and his ability to hit holes." - Dallas Morning News

  10/01/20 - *Elijah MooreJr/2021, Mississippi, 5-10, 178 (DS#5 WR) + More +

You might remember the 5-foot-9, 185-pound Moore from last year's Egg Bowl. He hopes you don't. Against archrival Mississippi State, Moore caught a touchdown pass with four seconds left to pull the Rebels to within 21-20 of MSU. Problem was Moore celebrated by imitating a Bulldog urinating, a jab at the opposing Bulldogs. The ensuing unsportsmanlike conduct penalty pushed the extra point back 15 yards for Luke Logan, whose kick sailed wide right. MSU won 21-20. "Elijah is a fine young man who lost control of his emotions in the moment," said Ole Miss in a statement the next day. Moore also apologized. - Herald Leader

  09/30/20 - *Elijah MooreJr/2021, Mississippi, 5-10, 178 (DS#5 WR) + More +

Lane Kiffin wants Elijah Moore to break records. "I thought Elijah was really special from looking at film last year and getting to work with him," Kiffin said. "When I first met him I told him 'Hey, you've got to work harder than anyone in the country because you're going to shatter the school record for most catches in a year." Moore is well on his way to set the records Kiffin wants him to. The junior receiver caught 10 passes for 227 yards in Ole Miss' 51-35 loss against No. 6 Florida Saturday. He finished six yards shy of tying A.J. Brown's record for most receiving yards in a single game in Ole Miss history and had another huge play taken off the board too. He caught a slip pass and ran 22 yards after the catch for a touchdown but that play was taken off the board because of a holding penalty.

Kiffin's confidence in Moore's ability to shatter records relates to what he was able to do with Cooper and others. Kiffin coached Cooper to Alabama's single-season receptions and receiving yards records and did the same for pass-catcher Marqise Lee at USC. "As you saw today, had we had a full 12 games I think he would've done that," Kiffin said of Moore. "It'll be a lot harder obviously with 10 conference games and no non-conference games." When asked about Kiffin's expectations on him, Moore said he doesn't care about individual records. His team lost. That's all that matters. No matter how well the offense played, that wasn't good enough. But that's not necessarily true. This performance was a stark departure from the way Ole Miss' offense operated in 2019. Last year's Rebels were as run-first as any team in the SEC. They finished with the No. 9 rushing offense in the country and the No. 102 passing offense. They only passed for more than 250 yards as a team in one game, and that came in a losing effort. - The Clarion Ledger

  09/29/20 - Jalen KnoxrSr/2024, Mississippi, 6-0, 209 (DS#86 WR) + More +

One bright spot for Missouri was junior wide receiver Jalen Knox. The 6-foot slot receiver, who finished with five catches for 63 yards, proved to be a safety blanket for starting quarterback Shawn Robinson - and Bazelak for one drive - in the first half. Knox had a small role in the offense last year under Dooley. He was sixth in receptions with 19 catches for 307 yards last season. Badie, out of the backfield, led the team in receptions last year with 32 catches. Knox may be the Missouri wideout to watch despite preseason buzz surrounding graduate transfers Hazelton and Chism. Hazelton led the team with nine targets. Chism had only one target in the first half and finished with two catches for 12 yards. "I thought (Knox) played well," Drinkwitz said. "We moved him all over the field. We moved him to the slot receiver. We had him out as a perimeter receiver. When we got the two grad transfer guys, that's what we knew we were going to do was move him inside and give us a little more flexibility in our offense to create some space." Knox said that he is "fast and more comfortable" in the slot instead of on the outside. He compared his constant motion to the role he had in high school. "That part of the game was easy," Knox said. "Getting to move around and be eye-candy to defenses and help other people get open...I love it." - Columbia Daily Tribune

  09/28/20 - Troy BrownrSr/2023, Mississippi, 6-1, 223 (DS#33 OLB) + More +

As a freshman, Brown was a backup safety. As a sophomore, he was a First-Team All-MAC linebacker. The Flint native emerged as one of the best defenders in the conference last season, making 91 tackles and intercepting three passes. He was a versatile defensive option, as he was fast enough to cover running backs and physical enough to make plays in the trenches. Expect him to build off that in 2020. He will be leaned upon heavily, and defensive coordinator Robb Akey will likely draw up all sorts of different stunts to move him around. Because of this, as well as the comfort that comes with another full year at the new position, Brown will showcase his wide range of abilities. If the MAC plays on weekdays, which all signs are pointing to at points, Brown will have the chance to captivate a national audience. Should he be able to do so, professional teams will take notice. - Central Michigan Life

  09/27/20 - *Elijah MooreJr/2021, Mississippi, 5-10, 178 (DS#5 WR) + More +

Matt Corral looked good passing all game, especially when targeting wide receiver Elijah Moore. Moore caught 10 passes for 227 yards on 12 targets and had a touchdown taken off the board because of a holding penalty. Moore finished six yards short of setting the Ole Miss record for receiving yards in a game. Senior receiver Dontario Drummond also had a big day, catching two touchdowns and throwing for a 45-yard completion on a gadget play in the first quarter. Corral finished with 395 passing yards and three touchdowns. If you adjust for sacks, he ran for 81 yards on nine scrambles.

Moore was the go-to target in Ole Miss' offense in 2019. Among returning SEC receivers, only Alabama's DeVonta Smith caught more first downs last year than Moore's 37. Moore is hardly a deep threat. Only eight of his 67 catches last season went for 25 or more yards. But he thrives in small spaces and is an excellent route runner. Ole Miss used Moore as an extension of the running game last year with 48 of his catches and 617 of his yards coming on first and second down. - The Clarion Ledger

  09/24/20 - *Jerrion EalyJr/2022, Mississippi, 5-08, 187 (DS#21 RB) + More +

Days before the first kickoff of the season, Ole Miss announced its official depth chart for the first and second string package of running backs, and it is filled with unexpected choices. At RB1, the team revealed that either sophomore Jerrion Ealy or freshman Henry Parish Jr. will take the position. The entirety of the SEC is on notice because of Ealy's explosive talent from last season. The Jackson Prep alum performed in all 12 games last season, racking up 722 yards off of 104 carries for six touchdowns. Expectations are high for Ealy as the back has continued to show improvement in both his ability and leadership, and there is no reason not to think Ealy could explode for a big season. - Daily Mississippian
