If you watch Ulysses Bentley IV now, you see a dominant, physical and fast running back who is just at the start of a potentially monster season for SMU. He's someone who looks like he belongs, and knows it. If you rewind to around three years ago, Bentley IV was so inexperienced with the whole recruiting process, he hadn't even realized SMU offered him a scholarship. In fact, Bentley IV went a whole week after wide receivers coach David Gru offered him a spot before he understood what that meant. "I had asked my coach," Bentley IV said, "and he was like, 'Yeah, they offered you. And then [SMU special teams] coach [Chris] Brasfield, he came down, and he told me, 'Yeah, we offered you.' It was the first offer for a player who didn't receive many, and it was the one he went on to accept. And there's no confusion now over whether the sophomore phenom belongs. He has seven touchdowns in three games - a feat matched by only five others in SMU history.

Bentley IV leads the country with 380 rushing yards and is tied for first in touchdowns. And that's with SMU using three running backs in its rotation. Bentley IV makes the most of his chances, carrying the ball 10.6 yards per touch. "I think he'll continue to get stronger in the weight room," said head coach Sonny Dykes. "We knew he could run. He played option quarterback really in high school so you could see his ability to run and his ability to lead a team. We were impressed with his speed and his vision and his ability to hit holes." - Dallas Morning News
