  03/09/21 - YaYa DiabyrSr/2023, Louisville, 6-3, 263 (DS#11 DE) + More +

Louisville is five practices into its spring session and defensive line coach Mark Ivey has been impressed by his group. The Cardinals return every defensive lineman from last year, with the exception of starting nose tackle Jared Goldwire. The All-ACC honorable mention honoree from last year entered the NFL Draft instead of using his extra year of eligibility. Still with so many players back, and the addition of five freshmen, Louisville is hopeful its defensive line can take a step forward and get more pressure on the quarterback.

One player making a strong impression through the first full week of practice is defensive end Yaya Diaby. Diaby, a former junior college All-American, was dominant through the first week of practice, Ivey said, and has continued that dominance into the second week. "He's been much more consistent, but when he makes up his mind to go there's not much you can do with him," Ivey said. A newcomer last season, Diaby was an impact player for the Cardinals when he was on the field. He tallied 18 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss in eight games. He missed a few games with an injury and was also part of the defensive line that was out due to COVID-19 protocols. That set him back, he said. - Courier Journal

  02/24/21 - Tyler ShoughrSr/2025, Louisville, 6-5, 219 (DS#5 QB) + More +

A crowded but largely unproven Texas Tech quarterback room just gained a transfer with starting experience. Tyler Shough, who started all seven games for Pac-12 champion Oregon last season and led the Pac-12 in passer rating, announced Monday on social media that he's transferring to Tech. He had been viewed as the top quarterback in the transfer portal after announcing his decision to exit Oregon earlier this month. Shough has three remaining seasons of eligibility, rare for a grad transfer. Blessed with good size (6-5, 221 pounds), Shough was ranked as the No. 1 prospect in Arizona in the Class of 2018. He redshirted as a freshman, backed up future NFL first-round pick Justin Herbert in 2019 and won the starting job last season. Shough completed 63.5% of his passes for 1,559 yards. He had 13 touchdown passes and six interceptions and also ran for 271 yards and two touchdowns. But Oregon also used Anthony Brown at quarterback late in the season, and Shough sat for a long stretch in the Fiesta Bowl loss to Iowa State. - Dallas Morning News

Former Oregon starting quarterback Tyler Shough is transferring to Texas Tech. There is a chance Tyler Shough could play against the Ducks if the former Oregon starting quarterback exhausts his collegiate eligibility. Shough, who entered the NCAA transfer portal Feb. 12 as a graduate transfer, announced Monday that he is headed to Texas Tech. After completing completing 63.5% of his passes for 1,559 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2020, Shough still will be classified as a redshirt sophomore in 2021 with the NCAA granting an extra year of eligibility due to the pandemic. Oregon is scheduled to play Texas Tech on Sept. 9, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas, when Shough could be a sixth-year senior. - Register Guard
