  04/26/20 - *Grant DelpitJr/2020, LSU, 6-2, 213 (DS#1 SS) + More +

Grant Delpit is tired of questions about his tackling. They've become inevitable. They've been lobbed at the LSU safety since he returned from a high ankle sprain in the middle of the 2019 season. It was no surprise that it was the fourth question Delpit fielded after the Cleveland Browns selected him with the No. 44 pick in the second round of the NFL draft. "I'm so tired of hearing that I can't tackle," Delpit said Friday night. "I might tackle you for asking that question." Delpit laughed. But the frustration is real. NFL executives, coaches and scouts all had similar questions.

They were most certainly the reason a former unanimous All-American, the 2019 Thorpe Award winner for nation's top defensive back, fell to the second round. Delpit was the third safety selected in the draft. He followed Alabama's Xavier McKinney to the New York Giants (No. 36) and Lenoir-Rhyne's Kyle Dugger to the New England Patriots (No. 37). "It was a humbling experience," Delpit said. "It was." In Cleveland, Delpit will be in familiar company. He's joining former LSU wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, plus former teammates cornerback Greedy Williams and linebacker Jacob Phillips, who the Browns selected No. 97 overall in the third round. Delpit said Cleveland is turning into the "LSU of the North," where he and Williams will make up "the best" secondary in the NFL. "Headline it," Delpit said. "All caps." - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/26/20 - Kristian FultonSr/2020, LSU, 6-0, 197 (DS#3 CB) + More +

Kristian Fulton's NFL draft slide finally ended on Friday in a Titans hat. The LSU cornerback was a popular projection as a first-round pick but didn't hear his name called through 32 picks on Thursday. Fulton then waited through 29 picks of the second round before Tennessee sent in his name at No. 61 overall. Fulton was the seventh former LSU player selected in the virtual NFL draft, with teams and players connecting from remote locations due to social distancing requirements enacted to mitigate the spread of coronavirus. "It was the best moment I ever had," Fulton said of hearing his name alongside his family in New Orleans after the long wait. Fulton spoke about his grandfather, Louis, who died from coronavirus: "Feel like he was watching over me the whole time" - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/26/20 - Lloyd Cushenberry IIIJr/2020, LSU, 6-3, 312 (DS#1 C) + More +

Lloyd Cushenberry handed Joe Burrow the ball for every LSU record the star quarterback set in his Tigers career. On Friday Cushenberry was the one making a bit of history. The Denver Broncos selected Cushenberry in the third round of the NFL draft at No. 83 overall. With the pick he became the ninth Tigers player taken in the 2020 draft, tying the program record for any draft. They'd need just three more picks over the final four rounds of the draft to tie the SEC record of 12 set by Alabama in 2018. Cushenberry was the fourth LSU player picked on Friday. Safety Grant Delpit landed at No. 44 overall in the second round, cornerback Kristian Fulton went in the third round at No. 61 overall, followed shortly by former LSU guard Damien Lewis at No. 69 overall. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/26/20 - *Jacob PhillipsJr/2020, LSU, 6-3, 229 (DS#4 ILB) + More +

LSU's leading tackler is headed to join a few familiar SEC faces with the Cleveland Browns after Jacob Phillips' named was called at the tail-end of the third round. The Browns selected Phillips with the No. 97 overall pick, a compensatory selection awarded to the Browns. Phillips will join LSU teammate Grant Delpit with the Browns, who have spent all four of their picks on SEC players. Cleveland picked up Alabama OT Jedrick Wills in the first round and Missouri DT Jordan Elliott earlier in the third. He also joins former LSU cornerback Greedy Williams, and a pair of former LSU wide receivers in Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. Phillips was marked the fifth former LSU player picked on Friday, marking the second consecutive day the program had that many players drafted. The 10 total picks broke the program record that had been set at nine in the 2013 draft and matched the following year in 2014. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/26/20 - *Saahdiq CharlesJr/2020, LSU, 6-4, 321 (DS#12 OT) + More +

Saahdiq Charles had to wait until Day 3 of the 2020 NFL draft to hear his name, but that wait ended almost immediately Saturday morning. The former LSU offensive tackle was picked by the Washington Redskins with the second pick of the fourth round, No. 108 overall. The Redskins picked Charles, who opted to forgo his final season at LSU, just moments after news broke that the Redskins would be trading left tackle Trent Williams to the San Francisco 49ers. Another example of a sell-low trade... the Redskins recoup essentially the average pick value (2020 5th and 2021 3rd) they just spent to get Saahdiq Charles to replace him at the top of the 4th round. Charles joins former teammate Derrius Guice in Washington, who was picked by No. 59 overall by the Redskins in the 2018 draft. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/25/20 - Rashard LawrenceSr/2020, LSU, 6-2, 308 (DS#11 DT) + More +

Rashard Lawrence knows a thing about big-time football in the state of Arizona, and he likes the food, too. Lawrence was picked at No. 131 overall by the Arizona Cardinals, and has the distinction of being the 12th former Tigers player selected to tie the SEC record held by Alabama. After LSU's victory in the 2020 SEC Championship in Atlanta, Lawrence said his preference for the College Football Playoff semifinals wasn't an opponent, but a trip to the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix -- because of the food. The defensive lineman got a taste of the food one year earlier during LSU's trip to the Fiesta Bowl in 2019, a 40-32 LSU victory. It fueled him well, as Lawrence dominated with two sacks and four tackles to be named defensive MVP. The 2020 Tigers ended up being slotted into the Peach Bowl back in Atlanta, where they dominated Oklahoma on their run to the title at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. He'll become a teammate of Isaiah Simmons, a star Clemson linebacker Lawrence had a big hand in defeating in the CFP title game. They'll play their home games in Glendale, just minutes outside of Phoenix. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/24/20 - Joe BurrowrSr/2020, LSU, 6-4, 221 (DS#1 QB) + More +

LSU's record setting quarterback Joe Burrow garnered a Heisman Trophy, a National Championship and is on his way to being the first pick in this year's NFL Draft. Now he may get a Baton Rouge street named after him. An item is set to go before the East Baton Rouge Planning Commission on March 16 to rename Henry Adams Road to Burrow Road. Henry Adams is a short private road off Highland Road, just southeast of the LSU campus. Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown reportedly officially welcomed LSU quarterback Joe Burrow to the franchise with a letter on Wednesday, which according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, read that Brown was looking forward "to building championship football teams with you for many years to come." Bengals president Mike Brown officially welcomed LSU QB Joe Burrow to Cincinnati on Wednesday, one day before the Draft. Brown sent Burrow a letter that said, amongst other things, that he looks forward "to building championship football teams with you for many years to come." - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/24/20 - Joe BurrowrSr/2020, LSU, 6-4, 221 (DS#1 QB) + More +

Minutes after being selected No. 1 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, Joe Burrow got a warm welcome in his new home thanks to LSU football. The program shared a photo of a billboard it placed in Cincinnati, Ohio where Burrow's new team, the Bengals, play. Burrow's selection cemented what had been assumed for months - that the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback would be going back "home" to Ohio. Burrow is pictured dead center in the billboard wearing his Tigers uniform. The team's familiar purple and gold adorn the left side of the ad with the announcement of Burrow's two most recent accomplishments - "overall No. 1 pick" and "national champion" in bold letters. On the other side of Burrow was a simple, supportive message, "Geaux Bengals" written in Cincinnati's black and orange. Bengals fans will be able to check the billboard out in two locations. The first, in Cincinnati, is located at Interstate-71 northbound near Blair Road. The second, in Covington, Kentucky, is located at Interstate-75 southbound near Pike Street. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/24/20 - *Clyde Edwards-HelaireJr/2020, LSU, 5-07, 207 (DS#4 RB) + More +

LSU bookended the first round of the NFL draft. The first pick was obvious, the final one was not. The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs grabbed running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire at No. 32 overall to close out the first round. Edwards-Helaire was the fifth LSU player selected, breaking the SEC record for first-rounders from a single school. Edwards-Helaire's next step comes after a season that saw the 5-foot-7 running back exceed expectations on LSU's stacked roster. The Baton Rouge native logged more than 100 total yards in nine of LSU's 15 games, along with 16 rushing touchdowns.

The rushing touchdown total was the most in the SEC tied with Jeremy Hill for the 5th-most in a single season in LSU history. The 1,414 yards, accrued on just 215 carries, was No. 3 in LSU history behind just Charles Alexander's 16,87 in 1977 and Leonard Fournette's 1,953 in 2015, both of whom had more than 300 carries in their respective seasons. Edwards-Helaire's biggest performance came on what may have been LSU's biggest stage of the season, on the road against Alabama. The junior running back ran for 103 yards and three touchdowns and caught 9 passes for 77 yards and another touchdown. His two late rushing touchdowns held Alabama at bay as the Tigers beat the Crimson Tide for the first time since 2012. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/24/20 - Joe BurrowrSr/2020, LSU, 6-4, 221 (DS#1 QB) + More +

The first round of the NFL draft opened and closed with players from the Southeastern Conference, a fitting way to mark the league's record-setting night. The football powerhouse had 15 players selected Thursday, smashing the previous mark of 12 set by the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2006 and matched twice by the SEC (2013, 2017). The SEC's most promising crop to date was flush with players from Alabama (four) and LSU (five). It included reigning Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow at the top followed by several more next-level starters - maybe even stars - at nearly every position.

The league fell just short of having as many players drafted in the first round as the rest of college football combined. Oddsmakers had listed the over/under for SEC players at 15 1/2. LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton, Alabama safety Xavier McKinney, Georgia running back D'Andre Swift and Alabama cornerback Trevon Diggs did not come off the board as some expected. They are expected to get selected early in the second round Friday night. Georgia right tackle Isaiah Wilson gave the SEC the new record when Tennessee chose him with the 29th pick. Miami took Auburn cornerback Noah Igbinoghene next to make it 14 from the league. Kansas City capped the first round by drafting LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. - AP College Football

  04/23/20 - *Patrick QueenJr/2020, LSU, 6-0, 229 (DS#2 OLB) + More +

After winning a championship at LSU, Patrick Queen will try to help the Ravens accomplish that same goal. The Ravens selected LSU's playmaking linebacker with the 28th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, filling perhaps their greatest need with the top player on their board at the time of their pick. "This was kind of a no-brainer for us," General Manager Eric DeCosta said. The pick fulfills the expectations of numerous mock drafts that linked Queen to Baltimore. The Ravens have been hit hard at inside linebacker during free agency, losing Pro Bowler C.J. Mosley in 2019. Then both Josh Bynes and Patrick Onwuasor departed in March. Queen is a sideline-to-sideline playmaker who blossomed into a key member of an LSU defense that helped the Tigers win a national championship, in which he was named the Defensive MVP. - BaltimoreRavens.com

  04/23/20 - *Justin JeffersonJr/2020, LSU, 6-1, 202 (DS#4 WR) + More +

The Vikings selected LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson with the 22nd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday night. The 21-year-old celebrated the news with a close group of family members at his home in St. Rose, Louisiana. "Words cannot describe the feeling," Jefferson said. "My heart pounding as soon as I'm receiving the phone call and realizing that I'm finally becoming a professional athlete and playing for an NFL team. It's definitely exciting, and I'm ready to join the team. "I have my family here, and I'm just relishing this moment with them," he later added.

"Everybody is [joyous] and happy, crying a lot of tears." Although the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic will delay Jefferson from donning his new Vikings uniform, fans already know he looks good in purple. Jefferson had one of the best receiving seasons in LSU history as a junior in 2019. He tied for the national lead with 111 catches (a school single-season record) and finished second in the country overall with 18 touchdown receptions, which trailed only Tigers teammate Ja'Marr Chase's 20. - Vikings.com

Call this a day for defense. The Jaguars not only went that side of the ball with their first selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, they stayed there with their second Round 1 selection. K'Lavon Chaisson, a defensive end/linebacker from Louisiana State University, late Thursday night became the Jaguars' second Round 1 selection of the '20 draft. The Jaguars selected him with the No. 20 overall selection, making the call around 10:35 Thursday.

The Jaguars selected Florida cornerback C.J. Henderson earlier in Round 1 with the No. 9 overall selection. Chaisson (6-feet-3, 254 pounds), who forewent his senior year to enter the draft, served as team captain in 2019 and earned All-Southeastern Conference first-team honors. He was a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. He played in 26 games with 17 starts in college. He totaled 92 tackles, including 19.0 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. - Jaguars.com

  04/23/20 - Joe BurrowrSr/2020, LSU, 6-4, 221 (DS#1 QB) + More +

Despite late trade rumors and early speculation book-ending a canceled pro day and virtual reality, the Bengals did Thursday night what everybody said they were going to do for the past four months when they took LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with the first pick in the NFL's first-ever remote draft. Using their first overall No. 1 selection in 17 years, the Bengals continued to revamp their franchise with a quarterback coming off the best statistical college year of all-time during an undefeated national championship season Burrow fired 60 touchdown passes against just six interceptions with a blistering 80 completion percentage. He joins Archie Griffin and Carson Palmer as the Bengals' only Heisman Trophy winners and a roster that has already undergone a massive facelift this offseason with the addition of six starters in free agency. - Bengals.com
