  04/26/20 - SS *Grant DelpitJr/2020, LSU

Grant Delpit is tired of questions about his tackling. They've become inevitable. They've been lobbed at the LSU safety since he returned from a high ankle sprain in the middle of the 2019 season. It was no surprise that it was the fourth question Delpit fielded after the Cleveland Browns selected him with the No. 44 pick in the second round of the NFL draft. "I'm so tired of hearing that I can't tackle," Delpit said Friday night. "I might tackle you for asking that question." Delpit laughed. But the frustration is real. NFL executives, coaches and scouts all had similar questions.

They were most certainly the reason a former unanimous All-American, the 2019 Thorpe Award winner for nation's top defensive back, fell to the second round. Delpit was the third safety selected in the draft. He followed Alabama's Xavier McKinney to the New York Giants (No. 36) and Lenoir-Rhyne's Kyle Dugger to the New England Patriots (No. 37). "It was a humbling experience," Delpit said. "It was." In Cleveland, Delpit will be in familiar company. He's joining former LSU wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, plus former teammates cornerback Greedy Williams and linebacker Jacob Phillips, who the Browns selected No. 97 overall in the third round. Delpit said Cleveland is turning into the "LSU of the North," where he and Williams will make up "the best" secondary in the NFL. "Headline it," Delpit said. "All caps." - Baton Rouge Advocate
