2020 OUTLAND TROPHY SEMIFINALIST: Alex Leatherwood, OT, Alabama (6-6, 312, Sr., Pensacola, Fla.): At times the Crimson Tide offense is so fast and fluid you can miss watching the guys up front that make it so. Leatherwood has been a standout in protection as well as blocking, allowing quarterback Mac Jones to rank in the top 10 nationally of nearly every passing statistic. The Crimson Tide has scored 35 or more points in 22 consecutive games, the longest streak in major-college football history. Four of Alabama's five previous Outland winners have been offensive tackles - Cam Robinson (2016), Barrett Jones (2011), Andre Smith (2008) and Chris Samuels (1999) - as well as five of the Tide's last seven finalists. - Greater Omaha Sports Committee

2020 OUTLAND TROPHY SEMIFINALIST: Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama (6-6, 325, Sr., Hickory, N.C.): Dickerson, a Florida State transfer, has made the most of his only season calling the blocking assignments up front for the Crimson Tide. Alabama is third nationally in scoring at 49.2 points per game - tops among schools playing five of more games - and has averaged 548.3 yards per game (4th nationally) while topping 500 yards in six of nine games. Setting things up front each play, Dickerson has helped Alabama establish national leaders at all three skill positions. The Crimson Tide claims two of the last four Outland winners, one on each side of the ball. Quinnen Williams, a defensive tackle, won in 2018, and offensive tackle Cam Robinson won the 2016 award. Alabama has not had a center win the Outland but Barrett Jones was a finalist in 2012 after winning the Outland as an offensive tackle in 2011, and center Ryan Kelly was a semifinalist in 2015. Alabama's five Outland winners are tied with Oklahoma for the second-most all-time (Nebraska, 9). - Greater Omaha Sports Committee

Alabama football offensive lineman Landon Dickerson is quite the personality, and he showed it Saturday against LSU. Dickerson had a dance to point out that LSU defensive lineman Jaquelin Roy committed encroachment. CBS broadcaster Gary Danielson called Dickerson "a physical character." CBS play-by-play broadcaster Brad Nessler said Dickerson is "feisty." And in the fourth quarter, Dickerson flopped backward when LSU defensive end Neil Farrell Jr. approached him and their facemasks tapped. Dickerson received abundant adoration on social media. - Montgomery Advertiser

Alabama defensive back Daniel Wright was ejected for targeting in the second quarter of Saturday night's game against LSU football. Leading with his helmet, Wright hit LSU receiver Jaray Jenkins in the head with 12:48 left in the second quarter. Jenkins laid on the field for a while and was helped to the medical tent after a delay in the game. Wright had three tackles before his ejection. Alabama led 28-7 at the time of Wright's ejection. Since his ejection happened in the first half, Wright will be eligible to return for the entire Alabama vs. Arkansas football game scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12. - Montgomery Advertiser

Alabama was No. 1 for the fifth week in a row Sunday and extended its streak of consecutive poll appearances to 210, the third longest in the history of The Associated Press college football poll. The Crimson Tide were the unanimous No. 1 for the third straight week and the top seven teams were unchanged for a fifth consecutive poll. Notre Dame was No. 2, followed by Ohio State, Clemson and Texas A&M to round out the top five. No. 6 Florida and No. 7 Cincinnati also held their spots. Alabama's poll appearance streak passed Florida's run of 209 under Steve Spurrier from 1990-2002. Up next is Florida State's streak of 211 during the Bobby Bowden era from 1989-2001. The record belongs to Nebraska at 348 from 1981-2002. BYU was the only top-10 team to lose, falling in a thriller at Coastal Carolina on Saturday. The Cougars dropped six spots to No. 14 and the Chanticleers jumped three spots to No. 11. - AP College Football

  12/06/20 - *Dylan MosesrJr/2021, Alabama, 6-1, 225 (DS#7 ILB) + More +

Dylan Moses and his teammates said they weren't out for revenge, but he didn't deny that a loss to LSU in Tuscaloosa last season added some juice to the heated rivalry on Alabama's side. The senior linebacker, who initially committed to LSU before flipping to Alabama, used the word "chippy" to describe the action under the lights at Tiger Stadium. "[The plan] was just to come out there and play balls to the wall...Take it one play at a time, just not to play with emotion," he said after the 55-17 victory. "We all obviously remember what happened last year, but we just wanted to come here and do our job."

That chippiness didn't manifest in penalty yards, though. Alabama's Daniel Wright was ejected for targeting after a hit to the head of LSU wide receiver Jaray Jenkins. Otherwise both teams combined for 7 penalties for a total of 58 yards. But it was the Tigers who were playing mind games, Moses said. "It was a little chippy," Moses said. "You know with LSU, they came and tried to get in our heads a little bit. But you know our guys, had to hold ourselves back and continue playing the game." Alabama's roster features a dozen Louisiana natives, including Moses, but none was more impactful than Devonta Smith. The Amite City native racked up 231 yards and three touchdowns, both records for a visitor at Tiger Stadium. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  12/06/20 - DeVonta SmithSr/2021, Alabama, 6-0, 170 (DS#2 WR) + More +

DeVonta Smith leaped and extended his right arm for a football only he could catch. In the corner of the end zone at Tiger Stadium, the Alabama senior wide receiver pulled down a one-handed touchdown as LSU's best cornerback, Derek Stingley Jr., looked from the ground. Stingley had played almost perfect coverage. Tracking Smith from the outside, he stayed on Smith's upfield shoulder, anticipating a fake post. He turned his hips when Smith broke for the corner. He allowed no separation. He read Smith's body and looked for the ball. And it didn't matter. Stingley fell as Smith elevated.

The catch marked Smith's third touchdown of the first half in his return to his home state. Already the Southeastern Conference leader for career touchdown receptions, Smith shredded LSU's secondary during Alabama's 55-17 win Saturday night, setting a new record for yards receiving (231) by an opponent in Tiger Stadium. LSU had no answers for him. "He's killing us," coach Ed Orgeron said on LSU's halftime radio show. Smith, an Amite native, deserved much of the credit for Alabama scoring its most points ever against LSU. He finished with eight receptions and three touchdowns. He averaged 28.9 yards per catch. He scored two touchdowns over 60 yards. He caused Orgeron to rip off his headset and throw it against the ground. No other Alabama receiver gained more than 70 yards. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  12/06/20 - DeVonta SmithSr/2021, Alabama, 6-0, 170 (DS#2 WR) + More +

Asked about DeVonta Smith's potential Heisman Trophy candidacy and whether Smith is the "best player in the country," Saban responded, "Well, you're asking me a question -- I don't see every player playing in the country. I love Smitty. I think he's an outstanding player for our team. Probably done as much this year for our team as any player that we've ever had. He's a great leader on the team. It's not fair to compare him to somebody else that you didn't even see. But I don't think there's many players in the country that have done more to their team than Smitty does for our team." - Birmingham News

Alabama's other main Heisman candidate had another great game, too. In three quarters of work, Mac Jones was 20 of 28 for 385 yards with four touchdown passes and no interceptions. Behind Jones, Smith and Najee Harris, the Tide had 469 yards and 45 points by the end of the first half and 557 yards and 55 points by the end of the third quarter. Six of Alabama's seven first half drives produced touchdowns. The other ended with a field goal. - Birmingham News

Only twice since 2003 has a wide receiver been a Heisman finalist. That should change this year. DeVonta Smith finished Saturday with eight catches, 231 yards and three touchdowns. In the last four games, Smith has posted 35 catches, 749 yards and 11 touchdowns. For the year, the senior is up to 80 catches, 1,305 yards and 15 touchdowns. In only nine games. "He's probably done as much this year for our team as any player that we've ever had," head coach Nick Saban said after the game. - Birmingham News

Mac Jones passed for 385 yards and four touchdowns and No. 1 Alabama used a slew of explosive plays to run away from LSU 55-17 on Saturday night. Jones threw three of his touchdown passes to Louisiana native DeVonta Smith, who went to the same high school as Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and finished with eight catches for 231 yards in his return to his home state. Smith's first two touchdowns went for 65 and 61 yards to cap three-play, 75-yard drives for Alabama (9-0, 9-0 SEC). But his third touchdown catch from 20-yards out appeared to be his most difficult. He shed close coverage from top LSU cornerback Derrick Stingley Jr. and made a twisting, leaping catch high over his head before landing on his back deep in the end zone.

Najee Harris rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries, juking, shedding and even leaping over LSU defenders along the way. LSU (3-5, 3-5) showed signs of life in the second quarter, scoring on a pair of long plays. One nearly didn't happen when receiver Kayshon Bouttee caught a 43-yard pass and released the ball in celebration just before crossing the goal line. Luckily for LSU, Jontre Kirkland was following the play and picked the ball up in the end zone to complete LSU's first scoring play against Alabama in Tiger Stadium since 2014. - Alabama/AP College Football

In his first season as the starter, the redshirt junior has thrown for 2,728 yards with 23 touchdowns, three interceptions and a 76.2 completion percentage, despite often sitting the final quarter of games. The performance has Jones squarely in the discussion for the Heisman Trophy. - Baton Rouge Advocate
