Jonathan Taylor ran for 119 yards and his 11th touchdown of the season, Wisconsin got two scores from its defense, and the eighth-ranked Badgers remained unbeaten with a 24-15 win over Northwestern on Saturday. Taylor carried 26 times to help Wisconsin (4-0, 2-0 Big Ten) avenge its 31-17 loss to the Wildcats last season. The junior reached 100 yards rushing for the 26th time in 31 career games and moved into fourth place on the Badgers' career rushing list (4,730). After allowing 81 yards rushing through the first three games, the Wisconsin defense surrendered 97 yards on the ground to Northwestern (1-3, 0-2).

The Badgers' defense sacked backup quarterback Aidan Smith once and starter Hunter Johnson three times, including one by safety Eric Burrell that caused a fumble by Johnson in the end zone. Matt Henningsen recovered to make it 14-3 in the third quarter for Wisconsin. Noah Burks added the other after intercepting Smith and returning it 68 yards down the Wisconsin sideline. Johnson went 10-for-21 and Smith completed 8 of 19 passes and had a late 15-yard touchdown to JJ Jefferson. Drake Anderson had 16 carries for 69 yards and a 4-yard score for the defending Big Ten West champion Wildcats, who dropped their second straight game conference game. Charlie Kuhbander added a 29-yard field goal for Northwestern. Chris Orr had two sacks and Collin Wilder added another for a Badgers' defense that is allowing just 7.3 points per game through the first four contests. - Wisconsin/AP College Football

Pat Fitzgerald is one of Jonathan Taylor's biggest fans. In fact, Northwestern's coach said he feels Wisconsin's All-American running back is the best player in the country. "If I had a Heisman vote right now, he's getting my vote," Fitzgerald said. "He's playing outstanding, absolutely outstanding, football... JT's been a great player since the minute he walked into this league, and he's playing at as high of a level as any running back that I've seen in my time here." Fitzgerald and the Wildcats (1-2, 0-1 Big Ten) will look to slow down the 2018 Doak Walker Award winner when they face the eighth-ranked Badgers (3-0, 1-0) on Saturday.

Taylor was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Michigan last week. Taylor scored twice and became the first Wisconsin player in history to rush for at least 200 yards (203) against the Wolverines. Taylor has rushed for at least 100 yards in 25 of his 30 career games. None of those 25 games were against the Wildcats, who are coming off a loss to Michigan State. Taylor has faced Northwestern twice in his career and has been held to a total of 126 yards on 30 carries, just 4.2 yards per carry and 63 per game. He had just 46 yards on 11 carries and two fumbles in a 31-17 loss on the road to the Wildcats last season. "Those guys play well off blocks," Taylor said of the Northwestern defenders. "They fill gaps really well and they play with length." - AP College Football

Wisconsin moved into the top 10 for the first time this season, landing at No. 8 in The Associated Press college football poll after a weekend during which seven ranked teams lost. The top of the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank remained mostly unchanged, with Clemson staying No. 1, followed by three Southeastern Conference teams: No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 LSU. Ohio State edged past Oklahoma to No. 5. Clemson received 55 first-place votes from the media panel. Alabama had six and Georgia received one. Auburn moved up a spot to No. 7 after beating Texas A&M 28-20 and Wisconsin jumped five spots to No. 8 after defeating Michigan 35-14. Florida remained No. 9 and Notre Dame slipped three spots to No. 10 after losing 23-17 at Georgia. - AP College Football

Jonathan Taylor ran for 203 yards and two touchdowns, Jack Coan added a career-high two rushing touchdowns and No. 13 Wisconsin made it look easy in a 35-14 victory over No. 11 Michigan on Saturday. Taylor had 143 yards and both scores in the first quarter, including a 72-yarder. He missed the second quarter due to cramps, but the 2018 Doak Walker Award winner returned in the third to finish with 23 carries to help the Badgers (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) avenge a 38-13 loss to the Wolverines last season in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Michigan's struggles to hold on to the ball continued as the Wolverines suffered another embarrassing loss under coach Jim Harbaugh. Michigan is 1-6 on the road against ranked opponents under Harbaugh, who took over the program in 2015. The game was so lopsided that the 80,248 in attendance chanted "overrated, overrated" to a Michigan team expected to contend for the Big Ten championship. Michigan also had to make a quarterback change. Harbaugh elected to bench Shea Patterson late in the first half in favor of backup quarterback Dylan McCaffrey. Patterson, who fumbled twice in each of Michigan's first two games, left after completing 4 of 9 passes with 88 yards and an interception. - Wisconsin/AP College Football

Wisconsin's defense hasn't dropped off a bit after losing last year's top pass rusher, Andrew Van Ginkel, to the NFL. Zack Baun, who had 2½ sacks in 25 career games before this season, is a big reason why. Responding to a challenge from coach Paul Chryst to improve his pass rush and take on a leadership role, Baun has been impressive thus far, taking the early Big Ten lead with two sacks in two games. "I'm just trying to make as many as I can, whenever they come," Baun said. "The pass rush is something that I've worked hard at, and to see it come to life like this, you love to see it."

The start of the season couldn't have gone much better for Baun and the 13th-ranked Badgers, who outscored South Florida and Central Michigan by a combined 110-0, becoming the first FBS team to score at least 100 points while allowing zero in its first two games since South Carolina in 1980. Wisconsin next faces No. 11 Michigan (2-0), which beat the Badgers 38-13 last season. "We're coming for revenge," Baun said. "Obviously, there is a standard that has been set here at Wisconsin. We all see it on the walls in the tunnel. We understand we didn't meet that standard last year. We're coming for it this year." After winning at least 10 games in each of Chryst's first three seasons, the Badgers used last year's 8-5 campaign as a learning tool — Baun especially. Baun, a 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker, saw his first action in 2016 as a redshirt sophomore, playing sparingly in 12 games. He missed all of 2017 with a broken left foot, and then started all 13 games last season. Baun said he spent a large portion of 2018 working back to full strength, both physically and mentally. - AP College Football

Quintez Cephus has been through a lot. The junior wide receiver missed the final five games of Wisconsin's 2017 campaign because of a broken right leg and did not play at all last year after being expelled from school following sexual assault charges. Cephus was acquitted by a jury last month, reinstated by school officials and was ruled academically eligible for last week's opener at South Florida. After hauling in only three catches for 39 yards in the Badgers' 49-0 victory last week, the Georgia native finally had his breakout game at Wisconsin. Cephus scored his first two touchdowns of the season, Jonathan Taylor rushed for three touchdowns and caught another, and No. 17 Wisconsin cruised past Central Michigan 61-0 in its home opener Saturday. - AP College Football

Jonathan Taylor is off and running. Catching, too. Taking up where he left off a year ago, when he led the nation in rushing with 2,194 yards and 16 touchdowns, Taylor ran for 135 yards and accounted for four TDs to help No. 19 Wisconsin open the season with a 49-0 rout of South Florida on Friday night. The junior scored on runs of 37 and 38 yards and also had the first two receiving TDs of his career as the Badgers strive to become a more balanced team on offense. "You work all offseason like I did, and to have that receiving touchdown come to life, I'm really excited about that," said Taylor, who scooted 36 yards up the left sideline after taking a quick flip from Jack Coan in the second quarter. "It motivates you to see that hard work pay off."

Taylor's second TD reception gave the Badgers a 28-0 lead just before halftime. He finished with two catches for 48 yards after having just eight for 60 yards last season. "Jonathan was good in a lot of different ways. He was awfully patient on one run, and he had the little screen that he took," Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst said. "You get him in space and he's pretty good." Wisconsin's defense delivered a dominating performance, too, limiting South Florida to 157 yards total offense and forcing three turnovers, including a fumble that Matt Henningsen returned 16 yards for a second quarter touchdown. The loss was the seventh straight for USF, which dropped the final six games of 2018 after starting 7-0 and climbing into the Top 25. - AP College Football

Wisconsin receiver Quintez Cephus has returned to practice and his coach says pending eligibility issues stem from a lack of credits because he was expelled amid sexual assault allegations this spring. Cephus was charged a year ago with sexually assaulting two women in his apartment in April 2018. University officials expelled him before the spring semester ended, but a jury acquitted Cephus earlier this month.

Chancellor Rebecca Blank allowed him to return to school and rejoin the Badgers on Monday although the athletic department says he can't play in a game until the undisclosed eligibility issues are resolved. Chryst told reporters Wednesday that Cephus practiced with the team and that Cephus' issues relate to a lack of credits. He declined to elaborate. - AP College Football

Jonathan Taylor is one of the best running backs in college football. He would be the first to say his success isn't due to just one person. There are, of course, his parents, Elizabeth Taylor and Jonathan James, and several other family members and coaches. But a single observation by a mentor helped change the entire trajectory of Taylor's success as a runner. "I went in and I said, 'Hey, run track. You need to run track,'" recalled Wisconsin running backs coach John Settle.

Settle, who is in his 10th season mentoring the Badgers' rushers, was drawn to Taylor's work ethic while recruiting the New Jersey native in high school. Settle said he noticed watching game film that something was missing from Taylor's repertoire: Breakaway speed. "His junior year, he wasn't breaking any long ones," Settle said. "Everybody was running him down, you know, running him out of bounds. All of a sudden (after running track), he shows up as a senior, and he was leaving people. So about the second or third game, we offered him (a scholarship)." - AP College Football

Former Wisconsin receiver Quintez Cephus has been cleared to return to school after a jury acquitted him of sexual assault charges. University of Wisconsin-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank announced the decision Monday. The school says it obtained information that wasn't provided during a student conduct review. The statement said sanctions against Cephus have been "reduced" and his expulsion has been lifted. The statement didn't elaborate. Cephus was suspended from the football team in August 2018 after he was charged. He was expelled from the university earlier this year for violating its nonacademic misconduct policies. A jury acquitted him of the charges Aug. 2. His attorneys have been pressuring Blank to let him return. - AP College Football
