UCLA defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa as expected announced he is headed for the NFL draft on Tuesday after having been one of only two Bruins to participate in senior day festivities last weekend. Odighizuwa made his intentions known in a Twitter post in which he thanked his coaches and teammates. A redshirt senior, Odighizuwa could have returned for one more college season after the NCAA granted every player an additional year of eligibility. His final college season was his best, with Odighizuwa logging six tackles for loss in seven games, including a career-high four sacks, as part of a resurgent defense. He was the only Bruins player to be selected first-team, All-Pac-12. - Los Angeles Times

UCLA senior running back Demetric Felton announced Sunday afternoon that he will pass up a chance to play for the Bruins next season and will enter the NFL draft. Felton, a former standout at Temecula's Great Oak High, made the announcement on his Twitter account, writing: "After much thought, prayer, and talking with my parents, I feel it's time to say my goodbyes and start to prepare for the Senior Bowl and the NFL combine. Playing in the NFL has been a dream of mine since I was 7 years old. I look forward to taking the next steps in fulfilling that lifelong dream."

Although he's a redshirt senior, Felton could have played for UCLA in the 2021 season because the NCAA granted an extra year of eligibility to every player before this season started due to the pandemic. He did not play in the Bruins' season-finale against Stanford on Saturday, finishing the season with 668 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 132 carries. He was limited out of the backfield throughout the final three weeks of the season after suffering a leg injury during his 206-yard performance against Arizona on Nov. 28. - Orange County Register

The Bruins are healthy going into Saturday's game. After missing two weeks to quarantine, quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson proved there was no regression in his game on Saturday at Arizona State. He accounted for a pair of touchdowns (one rushing) and was sharp while engineering the 11-play, 75-yard, go-ahead drive in the final minutes of the 25-18 comeback victory. Receiver Delon Hurt and running back Keegan Jones also returned to the field, but receiver Jaylen Erwin has not. - Orange County Register

Lake hardly looked like someone who had been forced to sit in a room the previous two weeks as a result of contact-tracing protocols related to COVID-19, missing games against Oregon and Arizona. His return was all the more special because Carnell was allowed to attend the game at Sun Devil Stadium as part of a contingent of family members permitted access. Father and son celebrated the next day by watching more game footage, including some involving the Trojans. "He gave me some tips and some pointers for them because he's a resource I want to use," Quentin said. "He's played at UCLA, played in the league, so it's critical to get some advice from him."

Quentin is part of a resurgent Bruins defense that leads the Pac-12 Conference with 18 sacks and is giving up 229.4 yards passing per game, less than half of the school-record 515 it yielded to Slovis last season. UCLA hasn't faced a passing attack as potent as the Trojans' but won't cower in its cleats Saturday. "It's a challenge," Lake said, "but it's not a challenge that we can't overcome." - Los Angeles Times

Demetric Felton scored on a 2-yard run with 1:09 left and UCLA rallied after sputtering for most of the second half to beat Arizona State 25-18 Saturday night. The Bruins (3-2) dominated early to go up 17-0, struggled as the Sun Devils (0-2) surged into the lead, then came to life at just the right time. Dorian Thompson-Robinson accounted for two touchdowns and was sharp while engineering the final drive after missing two games due to COVID-19 contact tracing. UCLA moved 75 yards in 11 plays on the drive, capped when Felton tried to stop at the 1 but was pushed in by the Sun Devils.

Jayden Daniels accounted for two touchdowns - the second a 1-yard run with 4 1/2 minutes left - and Tyler Johnson had three sacks for the Sun Devils in their first game in a month to COVID-19 issues. Arizona State opened the season in disheartening fashion, allowing two touchdowns in the final three minutes of a 28-27 loss to Southern California. Then the Sun Devils got stuck in COVID-19 limbo. Their Nov. 14 game against California was canceled after several players and coaches, including head coach Herm Edwards, tested positive. The next two games, against Colorado and Utah, also were shelved due to contact tracing issues. - UCLA/AP College Football

UCLA's senior all-purpose back Demetric Felton is ranked seventh in the country in average yards per game (134.3), and had a career-best performance in Saturday's 27-10 victory over Arizona, rushing for 207 yards with a touchdown, which came a week after he rushed for 167 yards in a loss at Oregon. But there was a scary moment in Saturday's game when Felton pulled up on a run late in the fourth quarter and never returned, reaching at his hamstring area. But the good news came Monday when UCLA coach Chip Kelly told reporters during a conference call that Felton is fine and would be practicing in preparation for the Bruins' (2-2) road game at Arizona State (0-1) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Kelly went on to talk about how far Felton has come since switching from wide receiver to running back last year, and spoke of his continuing work ethic as one of the reasons for his constant improvement.

"I think his vision, his ability to keep his shoulders square and make cuts is something he has really worked on and he's improved on," Kelly said of Felton. "But like anybody, nobody's ever arrived. I don't care if you're Tom Brady or Peyton Manning at the end of his career, I see Tom out here in the off-season in the middle of April working on fundamentals and where his plant foot goes and where his elbow is and his back hip and elbow working in unison together. "So, everybody can improve whether you're Demetric Felton at age 21 or Tom Brady at age 43. So, he (Felton) can improve at all facets and that's what I love about Felt. He continues to work at all aspects; pass catch, pass routes, vision, cuts, tough cuts, all of the things you have to do to be a great running back he'll continue to work on." - Orange County Register

The Bruins boast one of the more dynamic players in the conference in redshirt senior Demetric Felton, who has moved from the slot to running back where he is replacing Joshua Kelley, who went on to the NFL. Felton ran for 206 yards against Arizona, 134 of that in the first half. He pulled up lame after a run in the second half but practiced on Monday according to media sources. Edwards singled out Felton as a serious candidate for conference MVP honors.

"It feels like we're just opening the season again. It's our first game which all our guys are excited about, to play at home finally. That will be a lot of fun. It's been a long time and so I think everyone is excited about having the opportunity to play against a good UCLA football team. I think Chip (Kelly) has done a nice job of creating the type of offense and defense with players that fit his mold of what he wants to do." - Arizona Republic

Demetric Felton rushed for career-high 206 yards and a touchdown, Brittain Brown added two scores and UCLA defeated Arizona 27-10 at the Rose Bowl Saturday night. Felton is the 15th player in UCLA history to post a 200-yard game and the first since Joshua Kelley did it against USC in 2018. The senior, who finished with 230 scrimmage yards, had 134 rushing yards in the first half, including a 1-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter to extend the Bruins lead to 17-7. Felton also had a career high in carries with 32. Brown, a graduate transfer from Duke, added 72 yards on 16 carries, including a 2-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to put the 2-2 Bruins up by 17.

Redshirt freshman Chase Griffin started his second straight game and completed 12 of 20 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown. Griffin got the start due with Dorian Thompson-Robinson being held out due to COVID-19 contract tracing. Arizona starter Grant Gunnell suffered a shoulder injury on the first play when he was tackled by UCLA linebacker Bo Calvert, who came in unblocked on a blitz. Freshman Will Plummer came in for his first collegiate action and had 164 scrimmage yards. He went 17 of 35 for 151 yards passing and two interceptions along with 12 carries for 113 yards. The Wildcats (0-3) have lost a program-record 10 straight games dating back to last season. - UCLA/AP College Football

It remains unclear if the Bruins will have several players, including starting quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, back this week after they missed the Oregon game due to COVID-19 contact tracing.   UCLA's Dorian Thompson-Robinson was hoping to celebrate his 21st birthday with a big game against Utah. That game was canceled but he got a belated birthday present on Sunday morning. The junior threw three touchdown passes, rushed for another TD and accounted for 248 yards of total offense as the Bruins rolled to a 34-10 victory over California at the Rose Bowl. "It feels great to get a win. We've been fighting for it for a long time," said Thompson-Robinson, who completed 14 of 26 passes for 196 yards and added 52 yards rushing. "The biggest thing is we kind of treated it like backyard football - wake up in the morning, go out and play ball."

The Bruins and Golden Bears weren't originally slated to face each other this season, but the conference scheduled the contest on Friday after Cal's game against Arizona State and UCLA's matchup against Utah were canceled due to the Sun Devils and Utes having several positive COVID-19 tests. The Sunday morning time slot was available because the Cal-Arizona State game was pushed back from Saturday before it was called off. Cal was playing its season opener after its Nov. 7 game against Washington was canceled following one positive COVID-19 test and subsequent contact tracing. Thompson-Robinson has thrown three or more TD passes in consecutive games for the first time in his career. - AP College Football

Brittain Brown's arrival at UCLA adds more than depth to a backfield that also features Demetric Felton. With Felton expected to be the lead back this season, Brown can still contribute to an offense that features several returning pieces. "We are happy to have him," Felton said. "He is an older guy and has helped take on some of the leadership role since (Joshua Kelley) left." Brown joined the Bruins this offseason as a graduate transfer from Duke, where he had 222 carries for 1,126 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in three seasons. He credits Kelley's success under Coach Chip Kelly as a reason why he found UCLA to be an enticing landing spot to continue his career. "UCLA likes to run the ball a lot," Brown said. "That played a big part in that...to see (Kelley) run for back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons, that is very motivating to get other running backs to come here." Brown was a candidate for the Doak Walker Award in 2019, the award given annually to the best running back in the nation, but had his season cut short because of a shoulder injury. The Canton, Georgia native has also made an impression on the Bruins' defensive players. "I think he is doing a really good job for a guy coming into a new offense," said defensive back Obi Eboh, a grad transfer from Stanford. "He's running really hard. He runs angry." - Orange County Register

Demetric Felton Jr. has always been a people-pleaser, the UCLA running back happy to oblige his coach's wishes to position him anywhere on a football field. He's played slot receiver, served as a speedy change-of-pace running back and even filled in as the every-down back last season when Josh Kelley sat out the opener because of injury. Kelley's move to the Chargers after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons has created an opening for someone else to get the bulk of the carries for the Bruins in 2020. If given the opportunity, Felton said he intended to, well, run with it. "I'm definitely ready to take on that role," Felton, a redshirt senior, said Wednesday during a videoconference. "This is something that I've been waiting on my whole time at UCLA and now that it seems like it's that time, I'm ready for it."

The question is whether Felton is built to absorb the pounding that comes with running between the tackles 20-plus times a game. At 5 feet 10 and 200 pounds, Felton is a bit smaller than Brittain Brown, the 6-1, 210-pound graduate transfer from Duke who is the other top candidate to assume Kelley's spot as the top running back. "Brittain's a bigger back, more toward Josh's size," UCLA coach Chip Kelly said recently. "...In the first couple of days we've had him out there, he's impressive." - Los Angeles Times
