The 6-foot, 175-pound Crump has already played parts of five seasons of college football. He's eligible to play another season due to the NCAA's ruling that the 2020 season didn't count toward eligibility for any player. He has 50 career tackles in 48 games played, with three interceptions (all in 2018) and 15 passes defensed. He led Temple in pass breakups in 2020. He redshirted in 2019 after missing most the season with a hand injury. CSU's secondary is in need of improvement. Despite the excellent pressure created by the defensive line, the Rams were still 10th in the Mountain West in pass yards allowed per game (250) in their four-game 2020 season. Crump will have one season with CSU. - Fort Collins Coloradoan

Adding an offensive lineman who started last season in the SEC highlights New Mexico State's 2021 signing class, which will start with the early signing period on Wednesday. Ole Miss graduate transfer Eli Johnson is one of 16 players the Aggies during the early signing period. The Aggies added nine offensive players, six defensive players and one athlete early and will add three more defensive players during the regular signing period in February.

Last month, NM State recruiting coordinator Cory Martin said the 2021 Aggies will have 92 scholarship players as they expect seven current seniors will return following a lost season due to COVID-19. Johnson started every game at center last year and was a projected starter at the position as the Rebels were set to start camp following a coaching change from Matt Luke to Lane Kiffin. Johnson graduated with a political science degree in 2018 and will receive a Master's degree in homeland security in December. - Las Cruces Sun News

Mississippi starting center Eli Johnson says he won't play football this season. Johnson announced on Twitter that he'll sit out the season and focus on completing his master's degree in criminal justice in December. The Southeastern Conference allows players to opt out of the season because of COVID-19 and remain on scholarship. Johnson started all 12 games last season, allowing only one sack. His father, David, was hospitalized this summer because of the virus. "I will be forever grateful for my time here at Ole Miss," Johnson wrote Sunday night on Twitter. "God bless and Hotty Toddy." - AP College Football

New Mexico State University made the difficult decision to postpone its 2020 football season due to the COVID-19 pandemic that continues to affect our nation. This decision was reached in conjunction with President John Floros, Chancellor Dan Arvizu and Head Football Coach Doug Martin. We have relied on the knowledge and expertise of both our on-campus medical staff and others to arrive at this decision. With the Big 10, Pac-12, Mid-American and Mountain West Conferences, UConn, UMass and Old Dominion a total of 53 FBS programs have made a similar decisions in recent days. Because of this, we came to the conclusion that creating a full, robust schedule for our student-athletes and fans would have been exceptionally difficult to accomplish. Finally, the state of New Mexico's 14-day quarantine order makes playing a football schedule with road games impossible. - New Mexico State Football

New Mexico State senior defensive lineman Jomaious Williams is the first known athlete at the school to opt out of the upcoming season due to COVID-19 concerns. "I have OPT-OUT the 2020-21 football season #GodsPlan," Williams posted on Twitter. There is no indication that Williams has tested positive for the coronavirus. "He opted out because of the virus," Aggies coach Doug Martin said. "If kids don't want to play because of COVID, they can opt out and still stay on scholarship, but just not play that year. He (Williams) chose to opt out." Williams played in six games last season for the Aggies in his first year with the program after transferring from Coffeyville Community College. His season ended with an injury. Williams was expected to contribute for the Aggies at both interior defensive lineman positions for a unit that also lost four-year starter Roy Lopez, who transferred to Arizona. - Las Cruces Sun News

O'Maury Samuels appeared headed to greatness as a 16 year running back at Los Lunas High School. Samuels blew up into a four-star recruit as a junior with offers from three Power 5 conference teams and interest from others following his performance at The Opening regional in Dallas in 2016. Samuels committed to Michigan soon after. Now at the age of 21, Samuels finds himself atop a depth chart for the first time in his career as a redshirt junior with New Mexico State. "I think I have matured a lot," Samuels said. "I look at other things in life. I focus on mental health. I want to be a better player and a better person. I'm just more at peace in myself."

Samuels was the No. 1 prospect in New Mexico at Los Lunas, but his college career consists of 99 rushing yards and 21 attempts at Michigan. His time at Michigan ended when he left the school in 2018 following an incident that led to one misdemeanor charge of domestic violence and one misdemeanor charge of malicious destruction of property in Ann Arbor's 15th District Court. The domestic violence charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement, according to news reports. "I learned a lot in terms of life and football," Samuels said. "I look at (NM State) as a second chance to play football. During COVID-19, there is a lot of uncertainty. Football is going to be back at some point, so I want to stay ready." - Las Cruces Sun News

Jason Huntley became the 30th New Mexico State football player to be drafted on Saturday. Huntley was selected by the Detroit Lions with the 27th pick in the fifth round (No. 172 overall). Huntley is the first NM State football player to be selected in the NFL Draft since wide receiver Jaleel Scott was picked by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round in 2017. "I'm thrilled for him and his family," Aggies head coach Doug Martin said. "(Huntley) sat behind Larry Rose III and never complained and just worked harder and learned and took reps and opportunity when he got them. He's a competitor when a lot of players will jump into the transfer portal when things don't go well and that's where he is where he is at today."

Prior to the Draft, Huntley talked about his versatility serving as his greatest strength. "He was very durable for his size and he went from 150 pounds when he got here and 190 pounds when he left so that tells you about his work ethic," Martin said. "He was unselfish and played two positions because that is what was best for the team and ultimately that is what helped him. He led us in tackles on the punt team. He was our right end. Stuff like that is what scouts see and focus on that a lot of fans don't see." - Las Cruces Sun News

An Ole Miss football player said that both of his parents have tested positive for coronavirus and that he and his family have been quarantined. Eli Johnson, a senior from Lafayette High School in Oxford, posted on Twitter about his father's positive test on Sunday and asked for prayers. He followed up with his mother's positive test on Tuesday. "I cannot thank you all enough for the encouragement and support that has been shown to my family and I," he said. Johnson started all 12 games for the Rebels at center in 2019.

His father, David, covers Ole Miss football and recruiting for 247Sports. Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said on a teleconference Tuesday that he hasn't figured out plans for how the team will handle Johnson's return when the team is allowed to reconvene. "That's a medical answer that when we get closer we'll figure out," Kiffin said. "How long does it last? I'm making assumptions that we would immediately re-test any kids that possibly were exposed." - The Clarion Ledger

The NM State football team hosted its annual Pro Day Tuesday inside the Coca-Cola Weight Training Center and Aggie Memorial Stadium. Twenty-one players, including 16 from last year's squad, worked out and ran through position drills in front of 16 NFL scouts and player personnel directors. Highlights from the day included running back Jason Huntley's blazing-fast 40-yard dash time and defensive back Shamad Lomax's impressive performance in the vertical jump. Defensive back Ray Buford Jr. showed off his quickness in the 20-yard shuttle, while running back Christian Gibson displayed his strength in the bench press.

Huntley, who did not receive an invite to this year's NFL Combine, proved that he belonged with the best Tuesday. His time of 4.37 in the 40-yard dash and broad jump of 131 inches (10 feet, 11 inches) would have both ranked first among running backs at this year's NFL Combine. The All-American's vertical jump of 39.5 inches would have ranked third among running backs at the Combine. His marks in the bench press (21), three-cone drill (7.19) and 20-yard shuttle (4.25), meanwhile, would have all ranked in the top 10 among players at his position. - Las Cruces Sun News
