  07/25/21 - Carson StrongrJr/2022, Nevada, 6-3, 230 (DS#6 QB) + More +

Much of the 2021 preseason All-Mountain West football team ended up looking a lot like last year's final All-MW team, and that turned out to be a good thing for Nevada. The Wolf Pack placed four players onto the preseason team, announced Thursday at the conference's annual football media summit. All four finished the 2020 season as first-team All-Mountain West selections. Nevada quarterback Carson Strong led the way for the Pack, being named as the MW's preseason offensive player of the year and also first-team quarterback. He was joined on the first team by receiver Romeo Doubs, tight end Cole Turner and kicker Brandon Talton. Strong led the MW last season in passing yards (2,858), touchdowns (27), and completion percentage (70.1 percent). - Reno Gazette Journal

  05/02/21 - Carson StrongrJr/2022, Nevada, 6-3, 230 (DS#6 QB) + More +

Reigning Mountain West player of the year Carson Strong will sit out Saturday's action as he recovers from knee surgery, but that's not necessarily a terrible outcome for the Wolf Pack. Strong's absence will allow for more repetitions for the rest of Nevada's quarterbacking corps, and that's a pretty big deal for a team that would like to have a firm No. 2 player at the position. Look for Nate Cox and Jake Barlage to get the starting roles Saturday, along with most of the reps. Nevada's latest roster also shows Hamish McClure and Jonah Chong at quarterback. - Reno Gazette Journal

  04/17/21 - Jacob NunezrSr/2025, Nevada, 6-3, 275 (DS#999 OG) + More +

The Arizona State Sun Devils have spent the last few years trying to add depth on the offensive line, so much so that the position is better stocked than it has been in the last six or so years. So one has opted to seek playing time elsewhere. Freshman Jacob Nunez, a product of Lompoc High School (California) has entered the transfer portal. The 6-foot-3, 315-pounder was part of the 2020 signing class but did not play in any of the Sun Devils four games last season. ASU wrapped up spring drills late last month with Nunez getting reps primarily with the third team. ASU has 19 other scholarship linemen and heads into the 2021 season in solid shape with the return of four of its its five starters. Nunez, a three-star recruit by all major recruiting service, committed to ASU on July 4, 2019 and enrolled in January of 2020. He as ranked as the No. 89 offensive guard and and No. 127 overall prospect in California's 2020 recruiting class in the 247Sports Composite tally. - Arizona Republic

Florida State coach Mike Norvell said redshirt freshman quarterback Chubba Purdy won't participate in the remainder of spring camp. Purdy appeared in three games last season including one start against NC State before having to undergo season-ending surgery on a broken collarbone in November. He had surgery back in August for the injury but was forced to go under the knife again in order to have the hardware previously inserted into his collarbone removed after it began causing irritation and inflammation. - Orlando Sentinel

  01/14/21 - Carson StrongrJr/2022, Nevada, 6-3, 230 (DS#6 QB) + More +

An impressive bowl win helped Nevada to finish the 2020 football season ranked among the best teams in the country. The Wolf Pack (7-2) finished just shy of the top 25 in both the USA Today coaches' poll and the Associated Press Top 25 media poll, the two most prestigious national polls in college football. Nevada's season ended with a 38-27 win over Tulane in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in December. The Pack received 17 voting points in the USA Today poll, finishing seventh in the "others receiving votes" designation. Mountain West champion San Jose State (7-1) finished No. 24 in the poll, with 100 points. Boise State, which lost the Mountain West championship game to SJSU, received six points in the final balloting. In the final AP Top 25 poll, Nevada received seven points. San Jose State, the only other MW team to receive a vote, matched its coaches' poll finish by coming in at No. 24 in the AP balloting. - Reno Gazette Journal

  12/22/20 - Carson StrongrJr/2022, Nevada, 6-3, 230 (DS#6 QB) + More +

Carson Strong threw for 271 yards and five touchdowns, Devonte Lee and Toa Taua each rushed for over 100 yards, and Nevada beat Tulane 38-27 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Tuesday. Nevada (7-2) finished 2020 the same way it started the year - by playing in the same bowl game, which the Wolf Pack lost 30-21 to Ohio on Jan. 3. This year's Potato Bowl allowed Nevada to end with a win after losing its regular-season finale to San Jose State, which cost the Wolf Pack a spot in the Mountain West title game. Cameron Carroll rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown for Tulane (6-6), which was one of 19 schools to play 11 regular-season games amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Green Wave failed in their bid to win three consecutive bowl games for the first time in program history. Nevada built a 19-0 lead early in the second quarter, but the Green Wave rallied, pulling within 26-20 midway through the third quarter. - AP College Football
