  09/03/22 - Henry Parrish Jr.rSr/2025, Mississippi, 5-10, 182 (DS#43 RB) + More +

Henry Parrish rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns, Tyler Van Dyke passed for two more scores and No. 16 Miami downed Bethune-Cookman 70-13 in Mario Cristobal's debut as coach of the Hurricanes on Saturday. Miami finished with seven rushing touchdowns. Thaddeus Franklin rushed for two scores, while Devon Perry and Terrell Walden II also ran for touchdowns for the Hurricanes (1-0). Gilbert Frierson had an interception return for a score, while Xavier Restrepo and Michael Redding III caught the TD passes from Van Dyke - who completed 13 of 16 passes for 193 yards. Jake Garcia completed all eight of his passes for the Hurricanes.

For Bethune-Cookman (0-1), Que'Shawn Byrd caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Jalon Jones. It was Cristobal's 12th season-opener at Miami - he had five as a player, including his redshirt year, then three as a graduate assistant and three more as a full-fledged assistant. But this was the first, of what Miami expects to be many, with him in charge of the operation. There was much to like: Van Dyke's passes were crisp, Parrish stepped up to lead an injury-depleted running back corps, Frierson had the return touchdown, Key'Shawn Smith had three kickoff returns for 184 yards - barely stepping out 17 yards from the end zone on what would have been a return score - and the Hurricanes blocked a field goal. - Miami/AP College Football

  09/02/22 - Spencer SandersrSr/2024, Mississippi, 6-1, 209 (DS#32 QB) + More +

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy deflected credit when he reached a career milestone. Spencer Sanders passed for a career-high 406 yards and accounted for six touchdowns and No. 12 Oklahoma State beat Central Michigan 58-44 on Thursday night to give Gundy his 150th coaching victory. Gundy improved to 150-69 in his 18th season coaching his alma mater. "Cool deal," he said. "Like I told the team, it takes a lot of really, really quality people and good young men for a guy to stay in one place long enough to win 150 games. I'm just lucky enough to be along for the ride." Sanders matched a career high with four touchdown passes and set a career mark with two rushing scores in the opener for both teams. "Knock on wood, he's really good," Gundy said. "He understands our concepts. He understands second nature where to go with the ball. And it's a big advantage for us." Braydon Johnson had career highs of six catches for 133 yards and Brennan Presley added five catches for 83 yards.

Daniel Richardson passed for a career-high 424 yards and threw four touchdown passes for Central Michigan. Lew Nichols III, the nation's leading rusher last year, ran for 72 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. Sanders passed for 313 yards and three touchdowns in the first half and ran for two more scores to help the Cowboys take a 44-15 lead. The Cowboys led 51-15 less than a minute into the third quarter before Central Michigan climbed back into the game. Jalen McGaughy's 54-yard touchdown pass from Richardson cut it to 58-44 with 3:15 remaining. McGaughy had six catches for 126 yards and two scores. - AP College Football

  08/26/22 - Troy BrownrSr/2023, Mississippi, 6-1, 223 (DS#33 OLB) + More +

Consider Chance Campbell the model template for the impact a transfer can have in just one year on campus. Campbell transferred from Maryland prior to the 2021 campaign and ended up being one Ole Miss' stalwarts up the middle, leading the Rebels with 109 total tackles, including 12.5 for loss. Campbell was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was a major key behind Ole Miss taking a major defensive jump, surrendering two touchdowns per game less than it did in 2020. Former Central Michigan linebacker Troy Brown - a three-time all MAC selection in his Chippewas careers - wants to make the same difference Campbell did.

Brown transferred to Ole Miss in the offseason and figures to play a key role in the linebacker rotation for the Rebels in 2022. "I watched a lot of film on Chance. When I came here, a lot of guys … (were) very proud of his character and the way he practiced," Brown said. "So I just try to bring some of those characteristics, to have everybody buy into me just like I'm buying into them, so they can trust in me like they did him last year. So, I'm trying to do some of the same things." Brown finished his Central Michigan career with 215 tackles (31.5 for loss) and 6.5 sacks. He also added five interceptions. While Brown didn't see SEC speed in practice every single day, he has played against his share of elite athletes - during his Central Michigan career, his teams played Miami, Wisconsin, Missouri and LSU. The MAC wasn't necessarily filled with SEC-caliber athletes, but he's not going to be surprised when he gets into games against conference foes. "I did play in the MAC, but I had the chance to play (fast teams)," Brown said. "So, the tempo, I kind of got a chance to see it, but not in practice every day. So, now seeing that type of tempo in practice every day just has you on your horse and on your Ps and Qs, to where you can get beat, like, almost every play. "You definitely have to be locked in." - The Dispatch
