  09/03/20 - Spencer SandersrSr/2024, Mississippi, 6-1, 209 (DS#32 QB) + More +

Oklahoma State is taking a step forward with Name, Image and Likeness. The Cowboys announced a five-year branding partnership with INFLCR on Tuesday to empower student-athletes on social media and bring OSU to the forefront of NIL solutions. OSU student-athletes in all 16 sports will become their own brand ambassadors with instant access to photos and videos from the university's creative teams, national media outlets and photo wire services, as well as educational tools and analytics to enhance their digital performance, according to the release. "INFLCR is an elite brand-management tool, and we truly believe it's going to take our program and our players to a whole new level," OSU men's basketball coach Mike Boynton said in a release. "It's going to allow them to put themselves in a position to be empowered to tell their stories. "At OSU, we want to continue to push the envelope and put our players in a position to control their own messaging." INFLCR works with more than 100 college programs - representing more than 700 teams - and NASCAR, according to its website. - Daily Oklahoman

  09/01/20 - *Jerrion EalyJr/2022, Mississippi, 5-08, 187 (DS#21 RB) + More +

Running back Jerrion Ealy was a revelation for Ole Miss as a freshman. He rushed for 722 yards and six touchdowns, caught 20 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown and returned 13 kickoffs for 317 yards and a score. Heading into his sophomore season, Ealy has been tabbed as one of the top all-purpose players in the SEC. Given new coach Lane Kiffin's history of coaching multi-talented running backs, Ealy said he's ready to join the ranks. "Reggie (Bush) was one of my favorite players when I was growing up, so I try to mimic Reggie a lot," Ealy said of Kiffin's former Heisman Trophy winning running back at USC. "We've got similar builds, same playing style. Knowing that Coach Kiffin was there with him and he was also at Alabama with Kenyan Drake and T.J. Yeldon and all of them, it was exciting to see that."

A two-sport athlete, Ealy had his baseball season cut short in the spring when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Ealy said the pandemic afforded him his first time off in a decade, allowing him to confidently say he's never felt in better shape than he does this fall. "A lot of people are looking at this as a curse, but it's a blessing for me," Ealy said. "It gave my body time to heal and get back to 100% because I've never been 100%. Year in and year out I've never bee 100%. This is the closest to 100% I've ever been. I feel great and ready to play." - The Clarion Ledger

  08/29/20 - Jalen KnoxrSr/2024, Mississippi, 6-0, 209 (DS#86 WR) + More +

Missouri's new wide receivers have attracted all the attention this offseason, but a returning wideout might be the most pivotal piece in the Tigers' new passing game. You can describe him as a newcomer, too. Jalen Knox, back for his third year in the program, is not the player he's been the last two seasons. That's by design. "I feel like J-Knox is going to blow back up this year," wideout Maurice Massey said after a recent practice. "With the offense we have now it puts everyone in the place they need to be and uses them the right way." If you interpreted that as a knock on the former offensive staff, your instincts were probably right.

"Wherever you put him he's gonna make plays," wideout Dominic Gicinto added. "He's just really dynamic. He's got speed. He can get in and out of cuts. He can catch the ball. He's going to be everywhere this year." With practices closed to reporters, Drinkwitz has been careful not to disclose too much about his offense through the first week of preseason camp. But he's not keeping his plans for Knox completely undercover. "He's got incredible speed, good hands (and) he really wants to be good," Drinkwitz said after Tuesday's practice. "We've got to do a better job offensively of getting him the ball in space. We're gonna have to be creative in finding ways for him to touch it." Earlier this summer Drinkwitz even suggested Knox might return to his days as an option quarterback in certain packages. "I definitely could," Knox said, "if I needed to." - Post-Dispatch

  08/22/20 - Jonathan MingoSr/2023, Mississippi, 6-2, 220 (DS#11 WR) + More +

Elijah Moore returns as Ole Miss' top wide receiver after catching 67 passes for 850 yards and six touchdowns last year. All of Ole Miss' other returning wide receivers combined to catch 55 passes for 866 yards and two touchdowns in 2019. Sophomore Jonathan Mingo earned plenty of playing time last year but wasn't super productive, catching 12 passes in 12 games and scoring one touchdown. But offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby identified him as one of the players separating himself in the room. "Mingo's done a great job of working every single day and being in the building and spending time," Lebby said. "It's been incredibly important to him so he's done a good job. And then there are six or seven other guys that are just battling and competing and trying to find their way in to figure out who is going to be on the grass when we start playing." - The Clarion Ledger

  08/06/20 - Nigel KnottrSr/2022, Mississippi, 5-10, 178 (DS#999 CB) + More +

Cornerback Nigel Knott was limited by injuries at Alabama, playing in a total of 12 games from 2016-19. Now as a potential impact player for the Pirate defense, the Alabama transfer still needs to remain healthy and consistent in his craft. He has been slowed this week by a hamstring issue. "He had several positive days to start camp, but (Monday) he tweaked his hamstring a little bit and wasn't able to go in the afternoon," Houston said. "We'll see how long that holds him out, but hopefully not very long. He's a talented young man, but the thing that bit him there was (not) being able to stay on the field. That's something here that he's going to have to get through that and going to have to get over that." Knott, who has two years of eligibility remaining, is an option to start at corner opposite sophomore All-American Athletic Conference candidate Ja'Quan McMillian. - Daily Reflector

  08/03/20 - Spencer SandersrSr/2024, Mississippi, 6-1, 209 (DS#32 QB) + More +

A few days after he tore a ligament in his thumb in a game against Kansas last November, Oklahoma State's Spencer Sanders joined an elite quarterback club. Not the kind of club one wants to join, but rare one nonetheless. The name of the club isn't all that catchy, either: Quarterbacks who had the same surgery as Drew Brees. Sanders tore the ulnar collateral ligament in the thumb of his throwing hand, rendering him unable to grip a football, much less throw one with the usual zip he had shown through the first two-thirds of his freshman season.

The UCL tear of the thumb isn't uncommon in sports, but the type of surgery Sanders received to repair it is still somewhat new in the medical world, meaning it has been around for only a few years. Two months before Sanders suffered his injury, Brees - the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints - became the most notable quarterback to have the specific surgery Sanders had. As OSU nears the start of preseason camp, Sanders' thumb will continue to be tested. And a thumb injury for a quarterback can be detrimental to nearly everything he does. - Daily Oklahoman

  07/28/20 - Sam WilliamsrSr/2022, Mississippi, 6-4, 258 (DS#8 OLB) + More +

Sam Williams, an Ole Miss linebacker and defensive lineman, was arrested for sexual battery on Friday, according to a police report obtained by the Clarion Ledger. According to the report, Williams was arrested on Friday morning and was released later that afternoon after paying a $25,000 bond. Williams has also been suspended from all team activities, a statement from the team said. "We take these charges very seriously and will allow the legal system to run its course before making further determinations on his status in our program," the statement said. Last season was Williams' only season thus far at Ole Miss. He previously played at North East Mississippi Community College where he was the Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges (MACJC) defensive linemen of the year. - Daily Mississippian
