  07/02/20 - Jalen JuliusrSr/2020, Mississippi, 5-10, 192 (DS#22 FS) + More +

Jalen Julius played running back, receiver, cornerback and kick returner in high school in Florida. He was a three-star recruit out of West Orange, receiving offers from 13 schools including Ole Miss, which is where he ended up. Once he signed with the Rebels, he settled in playing defensive back. Julius intended to transfer ahead of the 2018 season, but ultimately changed his mind and went back to Ole Miss. He showed versatility as a senior in 2019, making the switch to free safety from cornerback. Julius is not the biggest defensive back out there at 5-foot-10, but he's a punishing hitter who makes form tackles. He never got a chance to show off his speed at a combine or official pro day, but it has been reported that he ran a 4.4 40-yard dash at an unofficial pro day.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a need for a versatile defensive back following Kendall Fuller's departure in free agency. They brought in a number of different undrafted free agents who fit the mold, but Julius is one who has experience and success making the switch from corner to safety. Don't be surprised if Julius makes a push to earn a job as a return specialist too. While he never was utilized there in college, he was explosive returning the football in high school. He recorded two kick returns for touchdowns during his senior season. - The Clarion Ledger

  06/24/20 - Jake SpringerrSr/2022, Mississippi, 6-0, 201 (DS#46 SS) + More +

Ole Miss has secured a commitment from a productive edge rusher. Jacob Springer, a 6-foot-1, 206-pound graduate transfer from Navy, announced his commitment to Ole Miss via Instagram on Tuesday evening. Springer recorded eight sacks, 16 tackles for loss and seven quarterback hurries for the Midshipmen in 2019, ranking fourth in the AAC in tackles for loss and fifth in the conference in sacks. Springer is a raw, edge-rushing talent. He played safety his first two years at Navy, logging two interceptions and two pass breakups in 2018. He also used his athleticism to return kicks and punts, averaging 8.2 yards per punt return and 15.6 yards per kick return. - Daily Mississippian

  06/20/20 - Lakia HenryrSr/2022, Mississippi, 5-11, 231 (DS#33 ILB) + More +

The NCAA Board of Governors announced Friday it has expanded the Confederate flag policy to prevent any NCAA championship events from being played in states where the symbol has a prominent presence. Mississippi is the only state currently affected by the Association's policy. The move comes a date after SEC commissioner Greg Sankey released a strong statement Thursday, saying it is "past time" for the state of Mississippi to change the flag.

In addition, he said the conference will consider precluding SEC championship events from being conducted in the Mississippi if a change isn't made. The NCAA Board of Governors' policy previously barred the awarding of sites determined in advance of a championship in states that displayed the Confederate flag. However, if a college or university team earned the right to host a championship game based on its tournament seeding or ranking -- considered a nonpredetermined award -- the team could host on its college campus or in its home territory. - Birmingham News

  05/29/20 - Kenny YeboahrSr/2021, Mississippi, 6-4, 250 (DS#8 TE) + More +

Kenny Yeboah, a native of Pennsylvania, transferred to Ole Miss from Temple. Ole Miss tight end Kenny Yeboah took to Twitter on Friday to speak out against Mississippi's state flag. "It's crazy that as an African American student-athlete, I play for a team in a state that STILL has the Confederate flag incorporated into their flag....STILL in 2020!!!" Yeboah said in his tweet. Yeboah's comments came in the wake of racial tension and riots in Minnesota after the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck during an arrest. Earlier Friday, Yeboah tweeted that "unless you have skin of color, you TRULY will never understand what we go through on a daily basis." It's Crazy that as an African American Student-Athlete I play for a team in a state, that STILL has the confederate flag incorporated into their flag....STILL in 2020!!! - The Clarion Ledger

  05/11/20 - Nigel KnottrSr/2022, Mississippi, 5-10, 178 (DS#999 CB) + More +

With limited recruiting going on in the world of college athletics due to COVID-19, East Carolina University football seems to be doing about as well as anyone could ask of them. The addition of former University of Alabama cornerback, Nigel Knott, brings the kind of recruiting hype that you just don't see out of ECU's recruiting classes often. Upon his graduation from Alabama, Knott comes to the Pirates ready to play and with two years of eligibility to play with. His arrival couldn't come at a better time for the Pirates as they will return in the 2020 season having graduated long time starting cornerback Colby Gore and without former starting safety, Daniel Charles.

Charles was suspended indefinitely and has since entered the transfer portal. Knott should help bring a level of experience that ECU's DB room just doesn't have as of right now with a group that's mostly made up of freshmen and sophomores. There is also the obvious bonus of bringing in a player who has spent a few years under the wing of Alabama head coach, Nick Saban. Knott perhaps brings the championship approach that East Carolina football expects. - The East Carolinian

A former Alabama defensive back has decided on a transfer destination. Nigel Knott will transfer to East Carolina, he announced Thursday. A four-star member of the Crimson Tide's 2016 recruiting class, Knott was medically disqualified by Alabama last year after serving as a reserve cornerback in 2018. Knott earned a degree from Alabama this spring and will be immediately eligible at East Carolina as a graduate transfer. - Birmingham News

  05/08/20 - Greg HardySr/2010, Mississippi, 6-4, 281 (DS#10 DE) + More +

Greg Hardy admitted he's scared to be competing during the current global coronavirus pandemic. The UFC heavyweight and former NFL standout returns to the octagon Saturday when he takes on Yorgan De Castro at UFC 249. It comes under unprecedented circumstances. This is the first UFC event held during the coronavirus crisis in the U.S. On top of that, Hardy (5-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has asthma, which makes leaving his home and heading to Jacksonville, Florida., to compete in a professional fight much more concerning than it normally would. "I'm terrified, man," Hardy said in a virtual media scrum Thursday. "But that's not going to stop me from paving the way and making sure my boss has the most entertaining fight - (the) first event out of all sports. This is the biggest event, and it needs the biggest athletes." Hardy, who played football at Ole Miss, has been open about his issues with asthma. He even had a win overturned to a no contest after using an inhaler in between rounds in his fight with Ben Sosoli last October. - The Clarion Ledger
