  2019 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Aaron Patrick (DL), Eastern Kentucky,...Patrick, a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, led the OVC and ranked 11th nationally in sacks in 2019, averaging 0.83/game (10.0 total). The senior ranked second in the OVC and 29th nationally in tackles for loss (1.4/game), finishing the season with 16.5 for loss. He finished his career with 27.5 career sacks which ranks second in school history. Patrick tallied 52 total tackles, forced three fumbles (a mark that was tied for 22nd in the FCS), had six quarterback hurries and an interception.

The senior had a season-best eight tackles in a win over Tennessee State in September; he also had 2.0 sacks in that game, a mark he equaled in the season finale victory over Jacksonville State, marking the Colonels first win over the Gamecocks since 2012. Patrick added a season-high 3.5 tackles for loss in a game against nationally-ranked Southeast Missouri in early November. Patrick is the 15th EKU player to be named OVC Defensive Player of the Year (a group that includes former NFL players Aaron Jones, Chad Bratzke and Yeremiah Bell) and first since the 2015 season (Noah Spence). - Ohio Valley Football

  NOV 25 STATS FCS NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sam Hayworth, Eastern Kentucky, PK, R-Sr., 5-11, 180, Ormond Beach, Florida,...Hayworth scored an school-record 17 points in the Colonels' 29-23 victory over Jacksonville State -- their first over the Ohio Valley Conference power since 2012. He connected from 34, 24, 25, 50 and 28 yards while going 5-for-6 on field goal attempts (the miss was from 48 yards) and made his two PAT attempts. He also kicked off seven times with three touchbacks.   NOV 25 OHIO VALLEY SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK: Samuel Hayworth, K, 5-11, 180, Sr., Ormond Beach, Fla., Eastern Kentucky,...Hayworth set an Eastern Kentucky record by 17 points by kicking as the Colonels topped Jacksonville State 29-23, marking its first win over the Gamecocks since 2012. The senior connected from 34, 24, 25, 50 and 28 yards on field goal attempts and was 2-of-2 on PATs in the six-point win. He hit from 50 yards and 28 yards in the fourth quarter which proved to be the difference in the win. He broke the previous school record of 16 kicking points set by Jamie Lovett in 1983. Hayworth also kicked off seven times with three touchbacks. He currently ranks ninth nationally in field goals/game (1.5) and 16th in field goal percentage (81.8%).   Samuel Hayworth made 5-of-6 field goal attempts - including a 50-yarder - and Conor Blount threw a touchdown and Eastern Kentucky beat Jacksonville State 29-23 on Saturday. Hayworth made kicks from 34, 24, 25, 50 and 28-yards in the win. Blount's 17-yard touchdown pass to Jack Berman to start the third quarter broke a 9-all tie. After the teams traded punts, Zerrick Cooper threw a 40-yard completion to Jamari Hester to put the ball at the Colonels' 10-yard line. On the next play, Cooper threw a 10-yard score to KJ Stephenson to tie it at 16 apiece. Eastern Kentucky (7-5, 5-3 Ohio Valley Conference) took the lead for good when Alonzo Booth crashed in from a yard out with 3:47 left in the third. Daryl McCleskey Jr. had 110 yards rushing on 24 carries for the Colonels. Jacksonville State's (6-6, 3-5) Cooper threw all three of his touchdowns to Stephenson. Cooper threw for 311 yards on 21-of-35 completions with Hester catching nine passes for 186 yards. Cooper also had 44 yards rushing on 17 carries. - AP College Football

  2019 ALL-MIAA FIRST TEAM (COACHES): Defensive Line Ubong Udom, Central Missouri,...The first Mules defensive lineman in five years to make the All-MIAA First Team is Ubong Udom. Udom has been a nightmare for quarterbacks finishing fourth in the MIAA with seven sacks. He also shares the league lead with four forced fumbles. This is Udom's first All-MIAA award. He was twice an MIAA Player of the Week, once on defense after a three sack, two forced fumble game vs. Washburn and once on special teams after his blocked field goal in the final seconds helped the Mules to a win at Nebraska-Kearney.   Daryl McCleskey and Alonzo Booth scored touchdowns, Sam Hayworth kicked three field goals and Eastern Kentucky defeated Tennessee Tech 22-10 on Saturday. McCleskey, who ran for 106 yards on 26 carries, scored on a 1-yard run late in the first quarter. The touchdown tied the game after Bailey Fisher opened the scoring with a 6-yard run for what would be Tennessee Tech's only touchdown. Hayworth kicked field goals of 22, 36 and 29 yards in the second quarter and Booth added a 1-yard TD run in the fourth. Eastern Kentucky (6-5, 4-3 Ohio Valley) rushed for 230 yards and held Tennessee Tech (6-5, 3-4) to 2 rushing yards and 11 first downs. Bailey Fisher completed 20 of 35 passes for 148 yards for the Golden Eagles. EKU sacked Fisher seven times. Taquan Evans led the way with three.   NOV 4 MIAA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ubong Udom of UCM earned his second player of the week honor this season, first award as the special teams player of the week. Udom blocked a potential game-winning field goal from Nebraska Kearney with less than 20 seconds left in a tie game. His blocked field goal set the Mules up to win the game in regulation one play later. Udom helped the Mules field goal defense block three kicks on the afternoon, one field goal and two extra points. - MIAA Football

  Eastern Kentucky used a balanced ground attack and four field goals from Samuel Hayworth and the Colonels controlled Eastern Illinois 33-6 on Saturday. Alonzo Booth, Parker McKinney, and Ellis Cain each scored touchdowns while Daryl McCleskey Jr. led Eastern Kentucky (5-3, 3-1 Ohio Valley Conference) in rushing yards with 79 on 18 carries. The Colonels had five players rush for 265 yards.

Hayworth gave special teams a boost when he made of 4 of 5 field goals. He made kicks of 35, 28, 25, and 23 yards in succession to turn a 14-0 halftime lead into a 26-point margin with 6:17 left in the game. Both teams struggled in the passing game as McKinney completed 2-of-9 passes for 14 yards and was intercepted once. Harry Woodbery threw the Panthers' (0-9, 0-5) lone touchdown but was just 9 of 28 for 49 yards. EKU held Eastern Illinois to 89 yards of offense and the Panthers were 0 for 15 on third-down conversions though 2 for 3 converting fourth down. - AP College Football

The Racers went 71 yards in 10 plays on the potential game-tying drive, marching to the EKU three-yard line before Sumpter picked off the Preston Rice pass attempt to end the game.   Parker McKinney threw for 256 yards and two scores, Alonzo Booth ran for two touchdowns and Eastern Kentucky held off Murray State 34-27 on Saturday. Zaden Webber kicked a 49-yard field goal with 10:14 left in the first quarter to give the Racers their only lead of the day. McKinney followed with TD passes of 56 and 14 yards to Alex Cabrera and Jerome Goss respectively. Preston Rice countered with an 18-yard pass to James Sappington to bring Murray State within 14-10. Eastern Kentucky (4-3, 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference) ended the half with a 38-yard field goal, and that started a run of 20-unanswered points for the Colonels and Murray State (4-4, 2-2) never recovered. After closing to within a touchdown, the Colonels tightened on defense and forced Murray State to punt, turnover on downs and picked off Rice on the Racers' final possession.   SEPT 30/WEEK 5 CONFERENCE USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: WKU junior LB Kyle Bailey intercepted two passes and recorded 1.5 tackles for loss in WKU's 20-13 victory vs. defending Conference USA champion UAB. The Carrollton, Georgia, native finished with seven total tackles, while also adding a QB hurry that caused a rushed pass attempt and led directly to WKU's fourth interception of the game.

Bailey's performance was the first multiple-interception game by a Hilltopper since Nick Holt on November 27, 2015 in a 49-28 victory vs. Marshall. It is one of only three two-interception games this year among Conference USA defenders. The Hilltoppers held the Blazers to their second-lowest point total of the past two seasons while WKU improved to 2-0 in conference play and held a third straight opponent scoreless in the fourth quarter. - C-USA Football

  Daryl McCleskey Jr. ran for 202 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Eastern Kentucky rolled to a 42-16 victory over Tennessee State on Saturday night in an Ohio Valley Conference opener. The senior McCleskey surpassed 2,000 career yards rushing and has now run for over 100 yards in three straight games. He had a 68-yard run that set up a 5-yard TD run to cap the scoring with five minutes left. He also had a 9-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Alonzo Booth added 115 yards on the ground and two touchdowns as the Colonels (3-2, 1-0) finished with 379 yards rushing. Parker McKinney had a 6-yard scoring run and threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Beerman. Te'kendrick Roberson's 8-yard touchdown run pulled Tennessee State (1-4, 0-1) to 28-16 late in the third quarter.   Alonzo Booth carried seven times for 128 yards and three touchdowns and Eastern Kentucky rolled past Valparaiso 53-7 in a season-opener on Thursday night. Booth scored two of his touchdowns on short runs early in the second quarter but the rout was already on after the Colonels scored twice in the game's first three minutes. Daryl McCleskey Jr. scored on a 64-yard run and quarterback Dakota Allen ran for the 2-point conversion. On the Crusaders' second play from scrimmage, linebacker Steven Crowder sacked Chris Duncan, who fumbled.

Corey Glass recovered the loose ball and ran 29 yards for a touchdown and a 15-0 lead. The Colonels added Booth's two touchdowns and a field goal in the second quarter and led 32-0 at halftime. Booth scored on an 86-yard run in the fourth quarter. Duncan connected with Ollie Reese for a 61-yard touchdown pass on Valpo's first drive of the second half, the Crusaders' lone score.
