  04/25/20 - Jack DriscollrSr/2020, Auburn, 6-5, 306 (DS#15 OG) + More +

Jack Driscoll will be heading to Philadelphia to start his NFL career. On the third day of the 2020 NFL Draft, Driscoll's name was called by the Philadelphia Eagles's as the 145th pick of the draft, making him the fourth Auburn Tiger to be picked. Driscoll joins defensive tackle Derrick Brown (Carolina Panthers, seventh pick), cornerback Noah Igbinoghene (Miami Dolphins, 30th pick) and defensive end Marlon Davidson (Atlanta Falcons, 47th pick) as the newest Auburn players in the league. He is the third Auburn offensive linemen to be picked since 2015 and the sixth and since 2010. At the Combine, Driscoll acknowledged he still has a lot of improving to do, but he has already shown he can make great leaps. He went from a 205-pound lineman who was rated a two-star prospect to a 296-pound starter in the SEC West. - Birmingham News

  04/24/20 - *Noah IgbinogheneJr/2020, Auburn, 5-10, 198 (DS#8 CB) + More +

When Miami Dolphins general manager called the former Auburn cornerback late Thursday night to deliver the news that the franchise was selecting him late in the first round of the NFL Draft, Igbinoghene couldn't find the words to articulate the feeling. Sitting in his Trussville home, surrounded by his family - his father, Festus, practically jumping with joy behind him - Igbinoghene could only slouch forward as Grier delivered the life-changing news. For as much confidence Igbinoghene had exuded on the field and throughout the pre-draft process - going so far as to assert at the NFL Combine that he was the best cornerback in this draft class - even he seemed surprised when the Dolphins, after trading back four spots late in the first round, selected him with the 30th overall pick in the draft. After all, it was just two years ago that Igbinoghene made the switch from wide receiver to cornerback, and although his stock seemingly rose over the last few months, few envisioned him as a Day 1 prospect when he declared early following his junior season.

Yet the Dolphins, who had three first-round picks on Thursday and used the first two on Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (fifth overall) and USC offensive tackle Austin Jackson (18th overall), felt they couldn't pass up on a prospect of Igbinoghene's caliber when they saw him sitting there late on Day 1. "Best player on the board for us," Grier said. "We felt really good about Noah. We got to know him. This is a passing league as everyone says. You can never have enough corners … (head coach) Brian (Flores) came from a really good defensive team when we hired him, and they had a lot of corners. At the end of the day, the way this league is offensively, it's a premium position and the more you have, the better. It breeds competition. (He's a) competitive kid that we really liked in the process." - Birmingham News

After a trade down from the 26th pick in Thursday night's first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins further fortified the secondary with a supreme athlete in Noah Igbinoghene. The football star moonlighted in the long-jump and triple-jump events on the Auburn track team. Auburn Defensive Backs Coach Wesley McGriff knew there was a possibility he wouldn't have Igbinoghene during spring practices. Two-sport athletes are given some leeway with regards to practice time during the overlap between two sports, a leash that Igbinoghene was not at all interested in exercising. "That kid's attitude is phenomenal," McGriff said. "You have to run him out of the building." "Noah came over and got 15 days of spring practice last year, then he's basically been a starting corner in the SEC from the start," said Defensive Coordinator Kevin Steele. "He played very well last year, but it was his first year on defense. A lot of it was all new to him, and he progressed each game." - MiamiDolphins.com

  04/23/20 - Derrick BrownSr/2020, Auburn, 6-5, 326 (DS#1 DT) + More +

The Panthers have selected defensive tackle Derrick Brown out of Auburn with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The 2019 SEC Defensive Player of the Year, Brown has been one of the Panthers expected targets throughout the pre-draft process. In his senior year at Auburn, Brown anchored the defense with 12.5 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and a pair of fumble recoveries. Brown's performance earned him consensus All-American distinction, as well as first-team All-SEC honors. He was also a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award (given to the nation's top defensive player) and the Outland Trophy (given to the nation's top interior lineman) in 2019. Additionally, Brown exemplified being a student-athlete at Auburn, as he was awarded the Lott IMPACT Trophy, given to the best defensive player who displays the qualities of integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community, and tenacity. And he was the Senior CLASS Award winner in 2019, which is presented to the top student-athlete in the nation. - Panthers.com

  04/09/20 - Prince Tega WanoghorSr/2020, Auburn, 6-5, 308 (DS#11 OT) + More +

A trio of former Auburn players will be among the 58 prospects who will virtually participate in the upcoming NFL Draft, the league announced Thursday night. While cornerback Noah Igbinoghene revealed earlier this week that he received an invite to attend the draft remotely, he will be joined in that group by defensive tackle Derrick Brown and offensive tackle Prince Tega Wanogho. The NFL, which will conduct the draft completely virtually April 23-25, has not yet announced how the selected players will virtually participate in the event, but it plans to announce the details ahead of the three-day event that signals the league's marquee offseason production. Wanogho, a three-year starter at left tackle for Auburn, is also projected to hear his name called on the second day of the draft, with most analysts slotting him into the second or third round of the draft. - Birmingham News

  04/09/20 - Brandon CouncilrSr/2023, Auburn, 6-3, 302 (DS#53 OG) + More +

Auburn picked up some veteran help along the offensive line on Thursday night. Brandon Council, a grad transfer from Akron, announced his commitment to Auburn on Twitter. Council chose Auburn over his other finalist, Missouri. The 6-foot-4, 325-pounder started 24 consecutive games for the Zips and has experience at a multitude of positions. Last season he made seven starts at left guard, two at center, two at right tackle and one at left tackle. The year prior, in 2018, he started three games at right tackle before sustaining a season-ending injury, and in 2017 he made nine starts at left guard. - Birmingham News

  04/09/20 - K.J. BrittSr/2021, Auburn, 6-1, 235 (DS#9 ILB) + More +

At the end of each day, laptops are opened and cameras are turned on across the country as Auburn Tigers hop onto Zoom. After months and years of seeing each other almost every day, the Auburn football players' interaction with each other is now limited to these calls. Nobody needs to be convinced to log on and join the conversation. "Right now everybody's really just happy to be around each other and really happy to make sure we still talk every day," linebacker K.J. Britt said. "Because that's something that goes unseen but is really missed, just the communication that we have between each other." In this new age, the Zoom age, everything team-related and school related has to be done virtually. Britt takes class online, chats with his teammates online and meets with his coaches online. It doesn't come anywhere near the type of involvement the senior is used to.

"There's not much we can do, just install and have meetings, ask questions, have the coaches talk, let us talk," Britt said. "That's about it. Those meetings go by so fast because they're not that long, so it's just like that." The players do everything else on their own. They've been given workouts and nutrition plans, but they can't be required to check in. It's left up to them to do it by themselves. They do extra workouts and film study on their own, as well. Britt has been focusing on his own tape to figure out ways he can get better while quarterback Bo Nix has been putting in time trying to learn the new offense. While the coaches have only had time to get a few parts of the install in, Nix has decided to push ahead on his own. - Birmingham News

  04/07/20 - Prince Tega WanoghorSr/2020, Auburn, 6-5, 308 (DS#11 OT) + More +

Wednesday was supposed to be the day Prince Tega Wanogho was waiting for. After a minor right knee injury unexpectedly forced him out of January's Senior Bowl, and a scope on that same knee prevented him from working out at February's NFL Combine and last month's pro day at Auburn, the former Tigers offensive tackle was eager to put on a show for NFL personnel during a private pro day on the Plains. Then the coronavirus outbreak occurred. NFL teams took personnel off the road, and the league prohibited pre-draft visits between franchises and prospects. On college campuses, including at Auburn, facilities were closed as the NCAA implemented restrictions and the SEC instituted a ban of on-campus athletic activities, which was recently extended through at least the end of May. For Wanogho - a potential Day 2 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft - that meant a cancelation of his much-anticipated private pro day.

"It's really a bummer," Wanogho told AL.com by phone this week. "It's real disappointing with all the stuff going on right now, but at the same time, at the end of the day I'm a guy who actually stays positive. At the end of the day, there's going to be a lot of people who are actually being affected by this virus going on right now, and it's way bigger than me. "I'm just praying about it, and I know my time's going to come to get to showcase what I can do. I'm just trying to control what I can control." - Birmingham News

The NFL Draft will be different this year thanks to the coronavirus outbreak. While the draft will go on as planned, beginning April 23 and running for three days, it won't be the once-anticipated extravagant show it was expected to be in Las Vegas this year. So, instead of gathering the draft's top prospects in a green room in Las Vegas later this month, thanks to the restrictions on the size of gatherings as a result of COVID-19, the NFL is inviting some of those highly sought-after hopefuls to attend the event virtually. Among the 50 or so players who will be joining the virtual green room is former Auburn cornerback Noah Igbinoghene, who announced his invitation on Twitter on Wednesday. "Extremely honored and blessed to be one of the 50 selected to 'virtually' attend the NFL Draft," Igbinoghene posted. Igbinoghene is projected as an early-round selection in the upcoming draft after forgoing his final year of eligibility to declare for the NFL, and some draft analysts believe the one-time receiver-turned-defensive back could hear his name heard before the end of the first round on April 23. - Birmingham News

  03/31/20 - Derrick BrownSr/2020, Auburn, 6-5, 326 (DS#1 DT) + More +

Every NFL team has contacted Brown going into the draft - and for good reason. Winner of the 2019 Lott IMPACT Trophy, which goes to the defensive player who has the biggest IMPACT (Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity), Brown posted 55 tackles, 12 1/2 stops for loss, four sacks and four pass breakups and two forced fumbles his senior year last season. From pushing an LSU offensive lineman back into Heisman Trophy winner and projected top overall pick, Joe Burrow, for a sack to taking the ball out of Florida quarterback Kyle Trask's hand and kept rumbling, Brown lived up to the award name. "You've got to be able to impose your will on folks," said about Brown, a first-team All-SEC selection and finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award and Outland Trophy.

As dominant as Brown was his senior year, he enters the draft viewed as primarily a run stopper who isn't the same force of nature on passing downs. Brown doesn't see himself as just a "two-down" player. "I always here he's a run stuffer, but in order for you to be able to get to the passer, you've got to be able to stop the run," Brown said. "I bring that to the table, but I feel like I'm efficient at being able to push the pocket and be able to put pressure on the quarterback. I may not have a bunch of sacks, but if you watch me play, you know quarterback is not sitting back there having all day (to throw), either." - Arizona Republic

  03/27/20 - Marlon DavidsonSr/2020, Auburn, 6-3, 303 (DS#4 DT) + More +

The 6-foot-3, 296-pounder has a wealth of experience, starting since the first game of his freshman year in 2016. After leaving some plays on the field during his first few seasons, Davidson put it all together as a senior and was a force up front for the Tigers. He totaled 48 tackles, including a team-leading 12.5 for a loss and 7.5 sacks to go along with five quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles - both on strip-sacks - and a pass breakup while earning All-SEC recognition and picking up a pair of second-team All-America honors. He also boosted his stock in the process while shining alongside future top-10 pick Derrick Brown.

Davidson has been bent on proving he's worthy of being a first-round pick, like Brown, and he hoped to show that off to teams both at the NFL Combine and earlier this month at Auburn's pro day. At the Combine, he ran a 5.04 in the 40-yard dash and showed a willingness and ability to play both inside and out along the line-something he also displayed during his pro day on the Plains while dealing with a minor hamstring tweak. "Everybody wants to prove somebody wrong," Davidson said. "I'm trying to prove that I'm the best player in the world. I'm trying to prove people wrong every day….I wanted to show these people that I'm real. I wanted to show these people that I have the passion for the game, and I will play through anything to have this opportunity." - Birmingham News

  03/27/20 - *Noah IgbinogheneJr/2020, Auburn, 5-10, 198 (DS#8 CB) + More +

While Igbinoghene's tape in two short seasons has impressed, he did well in bolstering his stock at the NFL Combine and then earlier this month at Auburn's pro day, when he notably improved his vertical jump to 40 inches (from 37 at the Combine) and ran a 4.47 in the 40-yard dash (slightly quicker than his 4.48 in Indianapolis). Kiper has Igbinoghene projected to go late in the first round to the San Francisco 49ers with the 31st overall pick, though he added the defending Super Bowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs, are also in the market for a cornerback and could be a prime landing spot for Igbinoghene in the draft. "It's a blessing, man," Igbinoghene said. "I've only been playing the position for two years. Who knows? It's crazy. If I had been playing the position a little bit earlier, who knows what could've happened? It's a blessing, again. I ain't come here and plan to do this and play cornerback. It just shows God's plan for me, and so I'm very appreciative of Him and so I'm glad. I'm thankful for Auburn." - Birmingham News

  03/12/20 - Roger McCrearySr/2022, Auburn, 5-11, 191 (DS#6 CB) + More +

For the third straight offseason, Auburn must replace its No. 1 cornerback following an early entry into the NFL Draft. This season, though, the Tigers must replace both of their starting cornerbacks following Noah Igbinoghene's decision to declare early and the graduation of Javaris Davis, as that duo started all 13 games at corner for Auburn in 2019. It's part of an offseason makeover in the secondary, where Auburn will be tasked with replacing four of its five starters from a year ago, with the lone exception coming at nickel, where Christian Tutt returns after making 12 starts in the slot last season. Junior Roger McCreary is expected to step in and take up the mantle at the Tigers' No. 1 cornerback in 2020 after being a supporting piece in each of his first two seasons. The former three-star signee took a considerable step forward as a sophomore, when he was targeted often when he was on the field. - Birmingham News

  03/10/20 - Owen PappoeSr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 225 (DS#5 ILB) + More +

Auburn returns its key core of four linebackers from last season in seniors K.J. Britt and Chandler Wooten, junior Zakoby McClain and sophomore Owen Pappoe. While Britt (12 starts, with the lone exception the LSU game when Auburn utilized a 3-1-7 scheme) and Pappoe (13 starts) were staples in the starting lineup, the Tigers relied on all four of these players rotating at linebacker throughout the season. As linebackers coach Travis Williams likes to say: Auburn doesn't have starters at linebacker; it has standards.

These four have helped raise the standard at the position for the Tigers, who have reshaped the linebacker corps since Steele's arrival and Williams took over the room. Britt earned All-SEC honors last year, in his first season as a starter, and will be the voice of Auburn's defense in 2020. Pappoe finished as the team's sixth-leading tackler last season and was the first true freshman to make an impact at linebacker since at least 2012. - Birmingham News

  03/07/20 - Marquel HarrellrSr/2020, Auburn, 6-3, 307 (DS#44 OG) + More +

With drawn out calls of "Quel!" echoing around the room, Marquel Harrell pumped out reps on the bench press at Auburn Pro Day on Friday morning. Former and current Auburn Tigers cheered him on as he pushed the 225-pound bar up and down 25 times. The number would have had him tied for 19th among offensive linemen at the NFL Scouting Combine - except Harrell didn't get invited to perform in Indianapolis alongside fellow linemen Prince Tega Wanogho and Jack Driscoll. "I thought I would, but just things happen the way they're supposed to be," Harrell, a two-year starter for Auburn, said. Instead, he stuck around Auburn, working out and practicing yoga four times a week as he prepared to show off his skills at Auburn Pro Day.

When the day came, Harrell put up "solid numbers" in front of the numerous NFL scouts and coaches who filled the indoor practice facility. Despite the added pressure from not being invited to the combine, Harrell treated the day like he treated all the game days he went through in the last five years at Auburn. "I don't really get nervous or anything anymore," Harrell said. "You just wake up one morning, and if it's for you, then it's for you. I took preparation with my coaches here and all the training that I did, just made sure that I did the right things." Friday morning, the 6-foot-3.5 Harrell weighed in at 307 pounds, two pounds below his official roster weight. He recorded a 24.5 inch vertical and an unofficial 40-yard dash time of 5.22 seconds. The time would have tied him for 20th among linemen, and the vertical would have come in at 35th. - Birmingham News
