  03/07/20 - Derrick BrownSr/2020, Auburn, 6-5, 326 (DS#1 DT) + More +

Derrick Brown is paying attention. The former Auburn star and unanimous All-American sees those questioning his ability and the doubters who wonder if he's worth a first-round pick or worthy of being among the first 10 players off the board in April's NFL Draft. He has taken note of the people eyeing his three-cone drill time from the NFL Combine (8.22 seconds, which was the fourth-worst among tackles in Combine history), and those - including one Pro Football Focus analyst - who doubt he's a good enough pass-rusher to warrant being selected in the first round. And Brown has a message for all of them. "Well, you know, if you care about the three-cone drill as much as handling a double-team, then hey, go for it," Brown said after Auburn's pro day on Friday. "If that's what you think, that's what you think. I can't do nothing about it." "(Those drills) tell you nothing about how you play football," Brown said. "So, I mean-I don't necessarily think it's even the team or coaches that worry about it. I mean, you know, tape does all the talking for me that anybody needs." - Birmingham News

  03/06/20 - Prince Tega WanoghorSr/2020, Auburn, 6-5, 308 (DS#11 OT) + More +

Auburn held its annual pro day on Friday at the program's indoor practice facility, with 18 former Tigers working out in front of personnel from across the NFL -- including at least two head coaches in Detroit's Matt Patricia and New York Giants coach Joe Judge. Along with the nine players who participated at last week's NFL Combine in Indianapolis, the following former Auburn players participated in Friday's pro day: offensive linemen Mike Horton and Marquel Harrell, safety Jeremiah Dinson, receiver/tight end Sal Cannella, tight end Jay Jay Wilson, receiver Will Hastings, defensive lineman Gary Walker, running back Kam Martin and H-back Spencer Nigh.

While each of those nine players had their first opportunity to show out in front of NFL scouts, many of the Tigers who participated in the Combine rested on their numbers from last week's scouting event and only participated in position drills and select workouts. Former offensive lineman Prince Tega Wanogho did not go through any workouts or drills as he continues to recover from a knee scope and will hold his own private pro day sometime in April ahead of the NFL Draft. - Birmingham News

  03/06/20 - Jeremiah DinsonrSr/2020, Auburn, 5-11, 191 (DS#18 FS) + More +

When Jeremiah Dinson, Auburn's leading tackler, found out he didn't get an invite to the NFL Scouting Combine, he was a little shocked. He, who finished the season with 88 tackles, didn't get invited but fellow safety Daniel Thomas, who had 14 less tackles did. Cornerback Javaris Davis, who had 45 less tackles did, and so did cornerback Noah Igbinoghene who had 46 less. Granted, safeties generally have a lot of tackles, but shouldn't he have gotten a look? "Man, it was tough at first," Dinson said. But Dinson didn't let it shake him, and he never questioned himself. Instead, he looked back on how much he's overcome - from arriving in a strange city far from Miami as a freshman to recovering from a terrible injury - and it reminded him that if it's meant to happen, it will.

"I look at my journey and how I got here today, and that was trust in God," Dinson said. "I still believe in Him, and I still believe in His plan. It is what it is." Less than a week after the NFL Combine, Auburn held its own Pro Day. It was one last chance for players who graduated or left the program to work out with their teammates, but more importantly, it was a chance for players like Dinson who weren't invited to the combine to show NFL scouts what they have to offer. Dinson recorded a 33-inch vertical and his unofficial 40-yard dash time was 4.73. He also participated in skill drills with defensive backs Thomas, Davis and Igbinoghene. - Birmingham News

  03/06/20 - Joshua HolseyrSr/2017, Auburn, 5-10, 190 (DS#42 CB) + More +

The man who helped bring the "Stupid D" mentality to Auburn's defense is back on the Plains in a new role. Former defensive back Josh Holsey has joined Gus Malzahn's support staff as a graduate assistant working with the Tigers' defense. "It was a pretty short discussion," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "Josh was just a super player here and a super young man. He played in the NFL. It was kind of one of those deals where when he got done I kind of had him on my mind. I know coach (Kevin) Steele thinks the world of him too. I think it's a really good situation for him. He's going to be a great coach." Holsey played at Auburn from 2012-16, appearing in 44 games over those five seasons while making 31 starts in the secondary and finishing with 118 career tackles. A well-respected former defensive back with experience at cornerback and nickel, Holsey was a cornerstone of Auburn's defensive turnaround during Steele's first year as defensive coordinator in 2016. - Birmingham News

  03/06/20 - Marlon DavidsonSr/2020, Auburn, 6-3, 303 (DS#4 DT) + More +

Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson came to Auburn together, shared an apartment and each decided to return for their senior seasons. Now, the Auburn defensive linemen are both hoping to land in the first round of the NFL draft. They were among the Tigers going through a pro day workout before NFL scouts and coaches on Friday. Brown has been projected by some as a potential early first-rounder while some mock drafts have Davidson as possibly going late in the round as well. Both had big senior seasons after considering early entry into the draft. "They both improved," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "You're talking about some high-character guys who played at a high level in the SEC. They were dominant. They weren't just good players. They were dominant players. "They both performed very well. They both have that wow factor." Both linemen just did position drills at pro day after going through the NFL combine in Indianapolis. - AP College Football

  03/05/20 - *Seth WilliamsJr/2021, Auburn, 6-3, 211 (DS#14 WR) + More +

Each of Auburn's top three receivers from a year ago - Seth Williams, Anthony Schwartz and Eli Stove - are back for 2020, though the Tigers will be without Schwartz this spring as he again shifts his focus to running track. Williams and Stove bring a wealth of experience to the position group, while the rest of Auburn's available receiving corps this spring consists of a little-used redshirt senior transfer, a pair of third-year players who have not been utilized much in the passing game and a trio of freshmen (including one early enrollee).

That means this spring will be one of opportunity for that group, as Williams will maintain his hold on the Tigers' top receiver role at split end after a breakthrough sophomore campaign and Stove will continue to be a reliable option in a versatile role as a pass-catcher and jet-sweep option. Who else emerges from the group as the Tigers try to round out their receiver rotation will be a key development to watch for this offseason, especially with Schwartz out of the picture this spring, as Auburn's passing game was at its best when Schwartz and Williams were on the field together. - Birmingham News
