  10/17/20 - *Tank BigsbyJr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 215 (DS#8 RB) + More +

Tank Bigsby forced 14 missed tackles against Arkansas. "He's very determined," Shaquanna Bigsby said. "Tank is the type of person, even growing up, if there's something that he loves, he wants to complete it. He wants to go ahead and do it until he masters it - whether it's a sport, whether it's his grades, regardless what it is, if it's something that he cares about and enjoys doing it, he's going to make the best out of it. He's always been that way since a kid." That's a trait he inherited from his parents, both of whom share that same desire to master something and "get the job done" when they set their sights on a goal or task at hand. And Bigsby's goals for himself are grand.

He wants to make it to the NFL, of course, but his desire is to do more than just make a career out of playing football. He wants to be great - and in the conversation with the best running backs to come through Auburn. That includes his current position coach, Cadillac Williams, whose own records - such as the program's career touchdown mark - Bigsby hopes to break before his time on the Plains ends. "I think that desire comes from his heart," Wiggins said. "He just - he's got a desire to play the highest level. When he steps on the field, he's one of the greatest competitors that I've ever been around." - Birmingham News

  10/17/20 - Zakoby McClainSr/2022, Auburn, 6-0, 227 (DS#17 OLB) + More +

Auburn may have lost two veteran linebackers, but coach Gus Malzahn is comfortable with that position group. After all, they still have two of the best linebackers in the SEC. "Zakoby (McClain) and Owen (Pappoe), those guys - I've said this - they're two of the best in our league, and they played really well the other night," Malzahn said. McClain and Pappoe had to elevate their game coming into the season because senior Chandler Wooten opted out, but they had to step it up to another level against Arkansas because All-SEC linebacker and team captain K.J. Britt injured his hand and had to have surgery. The two of them responded to the adversity by leading the team in tackles.

While McClain led the team with 13 tackles, Pappoe was close behind with 10. Seven of McClain's tackles were solo, and nine of Pappoe's were solo. McClain also had two quarterback hurries, while Pappoe had one sack. Malzahn decided to give them both defensive helmet stickers for their performance instead of choosing between the two. He said they were both "all over the field...it was good to watch." "We're in great shape, I think, with (McClain) and Owen," Malzahn said. "You'll see both guys continue to improve." Ranking the SEC teams 1 through 14 after three games. Without Wooten and Britt to rotate with them, McClain and Pappoe played almost every single snap against Arkansas with a little bit of help from safety Zion Puckett who played linebacker for a game. - Birmingham News

  10/17/20 - *Tank BigsbyJr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 215 (DS#8 RB) + More +

For Malzahn, the most impressive part of Bigsby's game is his determination despite still learning what it takes to play college football. "He's still learning the plays, he's learning the schemes and the steps and everything that goes with it. One thing he's doing is he's bringing the wood. He's running angry with great physicality and with great effort," Malzahn said. "He seized that opportunity. I really think you'll see him, after the game slows down a little bit and he actually can read things and slow himself down, I think he's - the sky is the limit. "He has that edge. You see him running, and like I said, he's got the potential to really, you know, keep going. That's what's exciting for me."

Bigsby acknowledged the comparison he's received to running backs coach Cadillac Williams, who was one of the Tigers' true stars at running back from 2001 to 2004. Bigsby said he leaves the comparisons between the two to those watching, although he admitted he is working to break all of his position coach's school records. Bigsby has taken nice strides as a true freshman, with the latest being crossing the 100-yard mark on the ground for the first time. He'll look to continue that play Saturday against a South Carolina defense that has only allowed 96 rushing yards per game this year, a task that the true freshman is likely eager to take on. "I am very hard on myself and expect more from myself, but it was real good to have my first 100-yard game in college. I'll continue and hopefully I'll have more to come," Bigsby said. - Opelika-Auburn News

4 Punts have been blocked by Auburn S Jordyn Peters during his college career. Peters posted his fourth blocked punt in the Tigers' 30-28 victory over Arkansas on Saturday. With the Razorbacks punting from their 4-yard line, Peters blocked the ball off the foot of George Caratan, and LB Barton Lester recovered in the end zone as Auburn took a 7-0 lead with 4:32 left in the first quarter. Peters' other three blocked punts came during the 2018 season and included one against Arkansas. - Birmingham News

  10/16/20 - Jaylin SimpsonrSr/2024, Auburn, 6-0, 179 (DS#7 FS) + More +

Reinforcements could be coming back to Auburn's secondary this week, with two injured cornerbacks expected to return to practice, according to Gus Malzahn. Starting cornerback Jaylin Simpson and junior college transfer Marco Domio are among the injured players Malzahn expects back in the fold this week as No. 15 Auburn (2-1) prepares for this weekend's trip to South Carolina (1-2). The Tigers will face the Gamecocks at 11 a.m. Saturday in Williams-Brice Stadium, with the game airing on ESPN.

Auburn's secondary has been beleaguered by a group of injuries early on this season. Simpson sustained a hamstring injury in the season opener against Kentucky, when he made his first career start and earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Domio has not yet made his Auburn debut while recovering from an undisclosed injury he sustained during fall camp. Senior defensive back. Jordyn Peters also exited the Arkansas game late in the first quarter with an injury. "If we have our guys healthy, we do feel like we've got quality depth," Malzahn said. "...Hopefully we'll get out guys back healthy." - Birmingham News

Auburn running back Tank Bigsby was named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for his performance against Kentucky, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Monday. Bigsby received the recognition following an impressive performance in the Tigers' 30-28 victory over Arkansas. The true freshman led the team on the ground with 20 carries for 146 yards, which included three carries for 25 yards on the Tigers' game-winning drive. He also reeled in four catches for 16 yards and had four kick returns for 106 yards. Bigsby's 268 all-purpose yards set a new school record for a freshman. - Opelika-Auburn News

  10/15/20 - Owen PappoeSr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 225 (DS#5 ILB) + More +

With senior linebacker K.J. Britt sidelined due to thumb surgery, all eyes were on Auburn's other linebackers Saturday in their first test without the team's leading tackler. While the performance wasn't perfect, the group showed they were willing to do what was asked of them in order to keep the Tigers in contention. Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn had previously named sophomore Owen Pappoe and junior Zakoby McClain as two players who needed to step up in Britt's absence, and against the Razorbacks the duo delivered. McClain was Auburn's leading tackler with 13 tackles to go with two quarterback hurries, while Pappoe followed close behind with 10 tackles and a sack.

Malzahn announced on Sunday that McClain and Pappoe each earned Auburn's defensive helmet stickers for their play against the Razorbacks. For Pappoe, the linebackers' collective play was the product of a mentality in which whoever is on the field has got to deliver. "I honestly think we all stepped up. It wasn't perfect, but due to the players we lost we all stepped up and did the best we could," Pappoe said on Saturday. "(It's) all hands on deck. We have the mentality of next man up. We were talking before the game like, 'This one's for KJ.' We went out there and gave our all … We just have to keep being prepared for that, and I think we'll be alright going down the line." - Opelika-Auburn News

  10/12/20 - Jordyn PetersSr/2021, Auburn, 6-1, 202 (DS#19 FS) + More +

Auburn senior defensive back Jordyn Peters once again blocked a punt to help the Tigers score a touchdown against Arkansas. Peters blocked George Caratan's punt in the end zone and the ball was recovered by Barton Lester to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead with 4:32 left in the first quarter. When Auburn beat Arkansas 34-3 in 2018, Peters blocked a punt by Reid Bauer that gave the Tigers possession at the Razorbacks 9 and set up a 4-yard touchdown run by quarterback Phillip Stidham that put Auburn ahead 17-0 in the second quarter. "He's really like a special teams leader," Auburn Coach Gus Malzahn said of Peters. "He done a super job his whole career." Peters now had four career blocked punts. In addition to his two blocks against Arkansas, he also had blocks against Alabama State and Liberty in 2018. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  10/10/20 - Anders CarlsonrSr/2023, Auburn, 6-5, 219 (DS#7 K) + More +

Arkansas and Auburn combined to produce a botched extra point, a kicker with two shots at potential game-winners and a hotly debated spiked ball. Ultimately, Anders Carlson made the most of his second chance, hitting a 39-yard field goal with 7 seconds left to lift the 13th-ranked Tigers to a 30-28 victory over Arkansas on a rainy, blustery Saturday. The Tigers (2-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) narrowly avoided a second straight loss, with drama and uncertainty continuing right up to that winning kick. Facing third and 1, Bo Nix couldn't handle the snap, picked it up and spiked the ball - appearing slightly behind him - to draw an intentional grounding flag. The play was reviewed and upheld. Auburn avoided the fate of two other SEC teams from earlier in the day after blowing a 17-0 lead. No. 21 Texas A&M beat No. 4 Florida 41-38, and Missouri knocked off No. 17 LSU 45-41. Carlson delivered after missing a 34-yard field goal wide right with 2:38 left. Auburn's defense had forced a three-and-out, and the Tigers got the ball back at the 45 of the Razorbacks, who botched their first PAT and failed on two subsequent 2-point conversion attempts. - Auburn/AP College Football

  10/10/20 - Eli StoveSr/2021, Auburn, 5-11, 194 (DS#57 WR) + More +

The Auburn Tigers were missing two valuable offensive players for most of the Georgia game in running back Shaun Shivers and wide receiver Eli Stove. As of Wednesday, it's not clear if the duo will be back this Saturday, either. Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said both players are "still questionable" during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday. Malzahn's update comes after Shivers was limited in practice last week and missed the Georgia game and after Stove left the loss to the Bulldogs early due to injury. "We're hoping by (Thursday) we'll know more about those two's statuses," Malzahn said. Shivers entered the season opener against Kentucky as the team's top running back on the depth chart and closed out the Tigers' victory over the Wildcats with six carries for 29 yards. The junior, who goes by the nickname "Worm," was unable to play against Georgia and ceded the top running back duties to true freshman Tank Bigsby, who had eight carries for 31 yards and also had seven receptions for 68 yards and 72 kick-return yards. - Opelika-Auburn News

  10/08/20 - K.J. BrittSr/2021, Auburn, 6-1, 235 (DS#9 ILB) + More +

Auburn All-Southeastern Conference llinebacker K.J. Britt will undergo thumb surgery. Team spokesman Kirk Sampson said Thursday that Britt is scheduled to undergo surgery on Friday, a day before the 13th-ranked Tigers host Arkansas. It wasn't immediately clear how long Britt will be out. Britt is leading the team with 23 tackles through two games, including one tackle for loss. He was a first-team Associated Press All-SEC pick last season and is a team captain. Britt had 69 tackles last season, including 10 for a loss and 2.5 sacks. Freshman Wesley Steiner is listed as his backup. Fellow linebacker Chandler Wooten had already opted out for the season. - AP College Football

  10/06/20 - *Tank BigsbyJr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 215 (DS#8 RB) + More +

Bigsby gained his first experience with college ball when he entered the season-opener against Kentucky. In that game, Bigsby rushed six times for 15 yards, averaging 2.5 yards per carry. Against the Bulldogs, who were ranked fourth in the nation, Bigsby more than doubled his touches and his rushing yards. He touched the ball 15 times. Seven of those touches were carries, and he accumulated 31 rushing yards. The other eight were catches, which impressed Malzahn. "He caught the ball with some really good catches out of the backfield," Malzahn said. With 68 receiving yards, Bigsby was the team's lead receiver, beating out starting wide receivers Anthony Schwartz, who had 57 yards, and Seth Williams, who had 34 yards.

Malzahn also felt Bigsby played well away from the ball, saying he protected "pretty good." Bigsby earned the offensive helmet sticker for the way he competed. While Malzahn did not specify whether Bigsby will continue as the No. 1 running back or if he will drop to No. 2 or No. 3 when Shivers and Williams return to health, he did say that Bigsby is "in a good spot." The game experience Bigsby gained against Georgia can only help the room improve as a whole, Malzahn said, because it helps develop the depth of players Auburn can rely on. - Birmingham News

Bigsby delivered several of Auburn's biggest moments against the Bulldogs. The true freshman showed he was up for the challenge in his first collegiate start, as he rushed for 31 yards and also had 68 receiving yards and 72 kick-return yards. "That was the best part of the night, just watching him play. That guy is a fighter. I've never really seen anything like it," said quarterback Bo Nix, who completed seven passes to the true freshman. "He was the spark there when we needed one. He made some huge plays there over and over and over. He's the one that really kept us rolling. Really pleased with what we saw out of him. Just have to get everybody playing like Tank." - Opelika-Auburn News

  10/03/20 - *Seth WilliamsJr/2021, Auburn, 6-3, 211 (DS#14 WR) + More +

Williams' athletic exploits caught people's attention before too long, leading to multiple scholarship offers. Despite growing up about 15 miles from Tuscaloosa, Williams leaned on his relationships with Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn and assistant Kodi Burns and chose the Tigers on Thanksgiving in 2017. From the time he first arrived in Auburn, Williams had done nothing but impressed. His performance to start his junior season drew plenty of praise as he works to become Auburn's first All-American wide receiver since Frank Sanders in 1994. Former teammate Darius Slayton said Williams is the best 50-50 ball receiver around, and quarterback Bo Nix explained he is on track to become truly special. "Seth is a great receiver, and he's taken the next step into becoming a really good receiver. This offseason, we've just practiced and practiced," Nix said. "Seth is always a guy that will go up and make a catch for you. He'll go up and make plays, and he's an explosive guy. He can go up and get it."

Williams has wowed consistently at Auburn, something he's done since years ago with the Stampede. Those who knew him then are far from surprised about his success at Auburn, and they are eagerly anticipating even more from Cottondale's favorite son. "Us as coaches, we would just say, 'You've got to ride with this guy.' You've got to figure that that guy is just bound for greatness," Peck-Love said. "What he's doing now just exemplifies what we thought. He's just a great guy. We knew he was bound to be great at whatever avenue he chose because he's just that type of guy." - Opelika-Auburn News
