  The Tigers desperately needed someone to step up in the secondary after losing several key players from 2019, and McCreary answered that call. The junior was often locked on the opponent's top receiver, and he ended the season with 45 tackles, seven tackles for loss, six pass break-ups and three interceptions. "He's had an excellent year," then-Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said in November. "He's played with a lot of confidence. He's usually covering their top guy. We've got a lot of confidence in Roger." McCreary did not play in the bowl game against Northwestern - interim head coach Kevin Steele didn't explain the reason for McCreary's absence - but his potential return would be a major victory for what would be a much-more experienced Auburn defense in 2021. - Opelika-Auburn News

  Auburn is on the verge of losing two more of its top wide receivers to the NFL. Seth Williams confirmed that he’s entering the NFL draft, which was first reported by AL.com Monday morning. Eli Stove is also expected to turn pro instead of returning to the Tigers for a second senior season, according to a source. It means that the Tigers will have to replace their top three wide receivers from this season as Anthony Schwartz, who led the team with 54 catches this year, had already declared for the NFL draft. - AL.com

  Auburn receiver Anthony Schwartz plans to skip his senior season and enter the NFL draft. Schwartz announced his plans Saturday on social media. He had already opted out of the Tigers' Citrus Bowl game against Northwestern. Schwartz caught a team-best 54 passes this season. He finished with 636 yards and three touchdowns. Schwartz had 117 catches for 1,433 yards and six touchdowns in three seasons at Auburn. The 6-foot, 179-pounder also had competed on the track team before opting to focus on football. Schwartz was the Gatorade national boys' track and field athlete of the year in 2018. He set a world youth record with a 10.15-seconds 100 meters in the 2017 Florida Relays. - AP College Football

  Wide receiver Anthony Schwartz and running back Mark-Anthony Richards will not be available for the Citrus Bowl. Beyond that, it's been "touch and go" as Auburn figures out who will be able to play Friday, Auburn defensive coordinator and interim coach Kevin Steele said. After Schwartz didn't participate in the first three bowl practices, he was expected to opt out. Safety Jamien Sherwood and nickleback Christian Tutt were also expected to opt out, although Steele implied Sherwood's decision was made because of an injury. Tutt was also recently injured.   Auburn is expected to be without at least three key players when it faces Northwestern in the Citrus Bowl on Friday. Safety Jamien Sherwood, wide receiver Anthony Schwartz and defensive back Christian Tutt are all expected to opt out of the game and haven't taken part in the team's first three bowl practices, sources told AL.com. Sherwood, who is third on the team with 65 tackles, is expected to enter the NFL draft, per sources.   Either McClain or Pappoe have led Auburn in tackles in each of the last seven games, and each one posted three straight games with double-figure tackles, marking the first time since Deshaun Davis in 2018 that an Auburn defender has hit that threshold over a three-game span. McClain last week set a career high with 17 tackles during Auburn's 31-20 loss to Texas A&M, which marked the most in a single game by an Auburn player during the Malzahn era and the most by a Tigers defender since Demetruce McNeal had 18 against Mississippi State in 2012. "It's not a surprise," Pappoe said of McClain. "I think 'Koby is one of the most slept-on linebackers in the SEC. He does it all.
