  10/29/20 - *Tank BigsbyJr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 215 (DS#8 RB) + More +

3 Consecutive 100-yard rushing games have been posted by Auburn RB Tank Bigsby, who joined Bo Jackson in 1982 and Michael Dyer in 2010 as the school's only freshmen with three 100-yard rushing games in one season against SEC rivals. Bigsby ran for 146 yards on 20 carries in a 30-28 victory over Arkansas on Oct. 10, 111 yards and one TD on 16 carries in a 30-22 loss to South Carolina on Oct. 17 and 129 yards and two TDs on 24 carries in a 35-28 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday. In 1982, Jackson ran for 110 yards and one TD on 17 carries in a 24-14 victory over Tennessee, 111 yards on 18 carries in an 18-3 victory over Kentucky and 114 yards and one TD on 17 carries in a 23-22 victory over Alabama. In 2010, Dyer ran for 100 yards on 23 carries in a 35-27 victory over South Carolina, 100 yards on 15 carries in a 24-17 victory over LSU and 180 yards and one TD on 21 carries in a 51-31 victory over Ole Miss. - Birmingham News

  10/29/20 - *Seth WilliamsJr/2021, Auburn, 6-3, 211 (DS#14 WR) + More +

So much of the conversation about the Auburn offense centered around quarterback Bo Nix following the loss to South Carolina, but wide receiver Seth Williams wasn't spared from criticism, either. With the opportunity to get things back on track against Ole Miss, Williams worked alongside Nix to deliver another dramatic victory and to show that Williams is still one of the SEC's most dangerous receivers. Williams had his best game of the season Saturday against the Rebels, as he reeled in a season-high eight catches for 150 yards and one touchdown. The last of those eight catches will be the one everyone remembers, as he caught a pass down the sideline from Nix, cut past two Ole Miss defenders then raced to the end zone for the go-ahead 58-yard touchdown.

The scene after the score - Nix racing to the end zone to congratulate Williams on the game-changing play - was a far cry from the one the week before, when Williams and Nix were caught on camera frustrated with each other on the sidelines. For Williams, the performance and the connection with Nix against Ole Miss was more of what the duo was used to, compared to the sideline blow-up in South Carolina. "It was a big emphasis on [bouncing back]. We had a little struggle last week, but we came this week with our mindset that we were going to refuse to lose, and that's what we did when we came out," Williams said. "Me and Bo, we always bump heads every now and then. Two great minds are always going to bump heads; you're just going to get over it. It was nothing to worry about, just me and him - just being us. We came back and put it behind us, and we got the win today." - Opelika-Auburn News

  10/28/20 - K.J. BrittSr/2021, Auburn, 6-1, 235 (DS#9 ILB) + More +

K.J. Britt stood beside Owen Pappoe as he led a pregame huddle on the field at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday morning. Just minutes earlier, he watched on as his fellow teammates went through pregame warmups, patting several on the back and offering words of encouragement before kickoff against Ole Miss. Britt wasn't in uniform for Auburn's 35-28 win, but after not being present for the last two games following thumb surgery on Oct. 9, the Tigers' senior linebacker and team captain made the trip to Oxford, Miss. He's not expected back until late this season, but his presence on the sideline Saturday was meaningful for the Tigers in a make-or-break game. "K.J.'s one of our team leaders, and just to have him back is a blessing for us," sophomore linebacker Owen Pappoe said. "In the locker room, in the hotel, on the way here, he's just that energizer bunny for us, just keeping us pumped. If you look around on the field, he just calms us down, you know? It was really good to have him back on the field with us."

Britt was Auburn's leading tackler through two games, and he was an All-SEC selection at linebacker heading into the season. He injured his thumb during the early-season loss to Georgia - when he played through the injury to finish the game - but underwent surgery less than a week later. Losing him was a tough blow for Auburn's defense, given his acumen against the run as well as the overall leadership and energy he provides. On a younger defense replacing six starters from last season, Britt was a steadying force. "His presence is really special," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "He's our team leader, not just offense, defense, special teams. But his presence was really big today." - Birmingham News

  10/27/20 - Shedrick JacksonrSr/2023, Auburn, 6-1, 193 (DS#46 WR) + More +

Auburn will likely be without one of its wide receivers when it hosts LSU on Halloween. The status of junior receiver Shedrick Jackson is up in the air for Saturday's 2:30 p.m. matchup against the defending national champions, though head coach Gus Malzahn did not sound optimistic about Jackson's availability. "He's questionable," Malzahn said. "He had an injury that, in the South Carolina game he tried to return to it, so he's questionable, probably, at best." Jackson missed last week's game against Ole Miss with an undisclosed injury. It was the second game this season the junior has missed due to injury. He also missed the season-opener against Kentucky, and he re-aggravated that injury during the loss to South Carolina two weeks ago.

Jackson has only one reception this season for 9 yards, but the 6-foot, 201-pounder out of Hoover is one of the Tigers' best perimeter blockers at receiver and has made his name on that trait during his time on the Plains. He spent this offseason growing into more of an all-around receiver, though the opportunities have not come often this season in the passing game when he has been healthy. In his absence last week, freshman Ze'Vian Capers made his second career start at receiver. Capers also started in Jackson's place during the opener against Kentucky. - Birmingham News

  10/25/20 - Brandon CouncilrSr/2023, Auburn, 6-3, 302 (DS#53 OG) + More +

Auburn right guard Brandon Council is expected to miss the rest of the year with a knee injury. Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said Sunday that Council sustained a "pretty severe knee injury" in the win over Mississippi. "That was real tough," Malzahn said. "He was really coming on and he's a super person and a really good player. That's going to be a tough blow.” Redshirt freshman Keiondre Jones replaced him against Ole Miss and senior Austin Troxell is another possibility Saturday against LSU. Council was a three-year starter at Akron, where he logged starts at four different positions on the line. He started at right tackle in the Arkansas game. - AP College Football

  10/25/20 - *Seth WilliamsJr/2021, Auburn, 6-3, 211 (DS#14 WR) + More +

Seth Williams did it again. Williams caught the game-winning touchdown from Bo Nix, hauling in a 58-yard touchdown with less than two minutes to go, and the Auburn football team survived Ole Miss 35-28 Saturday on the road in Oxford, Miss. Nix fired to Williams on the sideline in the nervous waning moments, before Auburn's superstar receiver hauled in the pass about 20 yards downfield, spun, and juked past the OIe Miss safety to race to an epic score. Auburn started its drive at its own 20 trailing by a point with just 2:25 left in the game. Nix, roasted under a microscope all week after struggling in last week's loss at South Carolina, was taken down for a sack on the series' first play. But Nix responded by firing a completion to Eli Stove. Freshman sensation Tank Bigsby then converted a third-and-1 to get Auburn to the Auburn 31. After an incompletion, Nix hit Schwartz to get Auburn to its own 42, and that's when Nix and Williams connected for another huge touchdown connection. Williams played like a superstar all game, catching eight passes for 134 yards and the game-winning touchdown. - Opelika-Auburn News

  10/23/20 - K.J. BrittSr/2021, Auburn, 6-1, 235 (DS#9 ILB) + More +

How do you make up for a loss like K.J. Britt? Auburn coach Gus Malzahn didn't have an answer for that. "That's a tough blow," Malzahn said. Luckily, that's a question Auburn won't have to deal with the whole season. Malzahn announced Tuesday that he expects Britt to return before the end of the year. Heading into the season, Britt was named a first-team All-SEC player, an honor he was also given at the end of the 2019 season. He was one of two Auburn Tigers named to the first team. Just before the season began, he was given another title: team captain. "He's not only just a great player, but he's a great leader," Malzahn said. When Britt hit the field in the season opener, he led the defense with 11 tackles. He also led the defense as he directed players from the middle of the field. Britt continued that performance in the next game against Georgia, making 12 tackles, the third most on the team. He did so despite having to leave the game multiple times because of what he called some "nicks and bruises." Linebacker Owen Pappoe said after the game that Britt's fighting spirit and "heart" made an impact on the rest of the team. - Birmingham News

  10/23/20 - *Tank BigsbyJr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 215 (DS#8 RB) + More +

Bigsby has been a revelation in his first year at Auburn, and his showing against the Gamecocks only added to it. He has been otherworldly when it comes to breaking tackles, and according to Sports Info Solutions he has forced a FBS-leading 9.5 missed tackles per 25 carries. Malzahn credited Bigsby for another hard-fought game, adding that he ran with an attitude in eclipsing 100 rushing yards for the second straight week. That achievement was no small feat by the freshman, and it has quickly pushed him to the front of Auburn's stable of running backs and given Malzahn the confidence that he'll be a factor moving forward.

Bigsby didn't catch a pass against South Carolina after impressing as a receiving threat against Georgia and Arkansas, but that didn't leave teammate Eli Stove any less impressed. "I think he's been doing real good since the Georgia game, really. I've seen a lot of potential in him," Stove said. "I've seen he's a hard runner. He's a competitor, too. We've got to feed him. We've got to feed him and get him in the end zone for sure." Bigsby carried the brunt of the load for Auburn at running back against Georgia and Arkansas, but that doesn't have to be the case going forward. Sophomore D.J. Williams played well in the Arkansas victory and averaged 4.25 yards per carry in limited action against the Gamecocks despite still not being 100 percent per Malzahn. Along with Williams, junior running back Shaun Shivers could be back this week to finally provide some much-needed depth. - Opelika-Auburn News

Tank Bigsby forced 14 missed tackles against Arkansas. "He's very determined," Shaquanna Bigsby said. "Tank is the type of person, even growing up, if there's something that he loves, he wants to complete it. He wants to go ahead and do it until he masters it - whether it's a sport, whether it's his grades, regardless what it is, if it's something that he cares about and enjoys doing it, he's going to make the best out of it. He's always been that way since a kid." That's a trait he inherited from his parents, both of whom share that same desire to master something and "get the job done" when they set their sights on a goal or task at hand. And Bigsby's goals for himself are grand.

He wants to make it to the NFL, of course, but his desire is to do more than just make a career out of playing football. He wants to be great - and in the conversation with the best running backs to come through Auburn. That includes his current position coach, Cadillac Williams, whose own records - such as the program's career touchdown mark - Bigsby hopes to break before his time on the Plains ends. "I think that desire comes from his heart," Wiggins said. "He just - he's got a desire to play the highest level. When he steps on the field, he's one of the greatest competitors that I've ever been around." - Birmingham News

  10/17/20 - Zakoby McClainSr/2022, Auburn, 6-0, 227 (DS#17 OLB) + More +

Auburn may have lost two veteran linebackers, but coach Gus Malzahn is comfortable with that position group. After all, they still have two of the best linebackers in the SEC. "Zakoby (McClain) and Owen (Pappoe), those guys - I've said this - they're two of the best in our league, and they played really well the other night," Malzahn said. McClain and Pappoe had to elevate their game coming into the season because senior Chandler Wooten opted out, but they had to step it up to another level against Arkansas because All-SEC linebacker and team captain K.J. Britt injured his hand and had to have surgery. The two of them responded to the adversity by leading the team in tackles.

While McClain led the team with 13 tackles, Pappoe was close behind with 10. Seven of McClain's tackles were solo, and nine of Pappoe's were solo. McClain also had two quarterback hurries, while Pappoe had one sack. Malzahn decided to give them both defensive helmet stickers for their performance instead of choosing between the two. He said they were both "all over the field...it was good to watch." "We're in great shape, I think, with (McClain) and Owen," Malzahn said. "You'll see both guys continue to improve." Ranking the SEC teams 1 through 14 after three games. Without Wooten and Britt to rotate with them, McClain and Pappoe played almost every single snap against Arkansas with a little bit of help from safety Zion Puckett who played linebacker for a game. - Birmingham News

  10/17/20 - *Tank BigsbyJr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 215 (DS#8 RB) + More +

For Malzahn, the most impressive part of Bigsby's game is his determination despite still learning what it takes to play college football. "He's still learning the plays, he's learning the schemes and the steps and everything that goes with it. One thing he's doing is he's bringing the wood. He's running angry with great physicality and with great effort," Malzahn said. "He seized that opportunity. I really think you'll see him, after the game slows down a little bit and he actually can read things and slow himself down, I think he's - the sky is the limit. "He has that edge. You see him running, and like I said, he's got the potential to really, you know, keep going. That's what's exciting for me."

Bigsby acknowledged the comparison he's received to running backs coach Cadillac Williams, who was one of the Tigers' true stars at running back from 2001 to 2004. Bigsby said he leaves the comparisons between the two to those watching, although he admitted he is working to break all of his position coach's school records. Bigsby has taken nice strides as a true freshman, with the latest being crossing the 100-yard mark on the ground for the first time. He'll look to continue that play Saturday against a South Carolina defense that has only allowed 96 rushing yards per game this year, a task that the true freshman is likely eager to take on. "I am very hard on myself and expect more from myself, but it was real good to have my first 100-yard game in college. I'll continue and hopefully I'll have more to come," Bigsby said. - Opelika-Auburn News
