  12/11/20 - Zakoby McClainSr/2022, Auburn, 6-0, 227 (DS#17 OLB) + More +

Either McClain or Pappoe have led Auburn in tackles in each of the last seven games, and each one posted three straight games with double-figure tackles, marking the first time since Deshaun Davis in 2018 that an Auburn defender has hit that threshold over a three-game span. McClain last week set a career high with 17 tackles during Auburn's 31-20 loss to Texas A&M, which marked the most in a single game by an Auburn player during the Malzahn era and the most by a Tigers defender since Demetruce McNeal had 18 against Mississippi State in 2012. "It's not a surprise," Pappoe said of McClain. "I think 'Koby is one of the most slept-on linebackers in the SEC. He does it all. Throughout fall camp, we had scrimmages, and he's flashing all the time and making plays. That kind of performance from him doesn't surprise me. I was really happy for him to play like that, on a big stage against a top-five team." - Birmingham News

  12/04/20 - *Colby WoodenJr/2023, Auburn, 6-4, 278 (DS#16 DE) + More +

Entering this season, Auburn needed someone along the defensive line to lighten the blow of losing defensive tackle Derrick Brown and defensive end Marlon Davidson to the NFL. It didn't take long for redshirt freshman Colby Wooden to stand up to that immense challenge. Wooden has been a revelation up front in his second year as a Tiger, as he's recorded 36 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss - which leaves him second in the SEC - three sacks and three quarterback hurries through eight games. Wooden's emergence has been crucial for Auburn, and his youth is the cherry on top given he's just getting started. For him, the 2020 season has been enjoyable but also a constant learning experience.

"It's meant a lot, the fact that I get to come in and help my teammates after not contributing last year. It just feels great to be a contributing member of the team this year," Wooden said. " [The biggest lesson is] just being physical and speed. You've got to be physical at the point of attack as well as coming off the ball fast. The faster you get off the ball, the easier your job will be. "You've also got to attack with a physical mindset that this guy's not going to beat me, this guy's not going to whoop me. Once you get that mindset, you'll be fine." Wooden arrived in Auburn with high expectations as a four-star recruit from Lawrenceville, Georgia, but his first season with the Tigers he was limited thanks to the Tigers' depth. He appeared in three games in 2019, which allowed him to redshirt while learning among the Auburn's more-experienced linemen. - Opelika-Auburn News

  12/02/20 - Alec JacksonrSr/2023, Auburn, 6-4, 321 (DS#999 OT) + More +

Late-season injuries have left Auburn down one starter, while four other key players are questionable heading into a matchup with No. 5 Texas A&M this weekend. Offensive lineman Alec Jackson, who started each of the first seven games of the season at left tackle for Auburn, underwent surgery on his right hand on Monday and has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Aggies, head coach Gus Malzahn announced.

Jackson first injured his hand during Auburn's win against Tennessee and had a club over it during the Tiger' trip to Tuscaloosa, though the 6-foot-5, 315-pounder did not play against the top-ranked Tide. It marked the first time this season that Jackson did not start along the offensive line for Auburn. Malzahn did not provide a timeline for Jackson's recovery or say whether the Montgomery native is expected back this season. - Birmingham News

Auburn left tackle Alec Jackson had surgery on his right hand and will miss the game with No. 5 Texas A&M. Tigers coach Gus Malzahn says Jackson had surgery on Monday. He didn't give a timetable for a possible return. Austin Troxell replaced Jackson in the starting lineup against No. 1 Alabama. Malzahn says right tackle Brodarious Hamm (left knee), tailbacks Tank Bigsby (hip) and D.J. Williams (ankle) and cornerback Jaylin Simpson are questionable against the Aggies. Simpson missed the Iron Bowl with an undisclosed injury. - AP College Football

The Tigers' run game was hindered from the get-go, as leading rusher Tank Bigsby attempted to play through the hip injury he sustained in the first quarter of last week's win against Tennessee but was clearly not at 100 percent. The Tigers also had a new-look offensive line, with Austin Troxell in for an injured Alec Jackson at left tackle, while right tackle Brodarious Hamm tried to play through a left knee injury but was subbed out after halftime. Bigsby, who entered the game as the fourth-leading rusher among all FBS freshmen this year, was limited to just 39 yards on 11 carries, including just 7 yards on four first-quarter carries. "Obviously, you can see Tank, he's not close to 100 percent," Malzahn said.

Bigsby's first-quarter rushing numbers were emblematic of the Tigers' overall struggles establishing the run against the Tide. Auburn had just 27 rushing yards in the opening period, averaging 2.7 yards per carry as the offense totaled just 45 yards and failed to sustain drives while regularly finding itself in third-and-long situations. It didn't get much better from there, with Auburn rushing for 30 yards on 10 second-quarter attempts and then minus-4 yards in the third quarter, when Alabama effectively put the game away. By then, Bigsby's day was done. - Birmingham News

  12/01/20 - Owen PappoeSr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 225 (DS#5 ILB) + More +

Sophomore linebacker Owen Pappoe said the Iron Bowl loss hurt a lot but that everyone is aware there's more games to be played. He stressed the importance of turning the page and moving onto the next opponent, which is another dangerous team in No. 5 Texas A&M. The Tigers were undoubtedly distraught after the performance in Tuscaloosa, but Pappoe explained the conversation after the loss centered on moving on as quickly as they could. "We've just got to come together and just stay together. We can't let this tear us apart. We haven't had the season we wanted to have, but we've got to learn from everything that we messed up on," Pappoe said. "This has to make us a stronger team for the following game and into next season, when we go into the spring and the season after that. We can't fold. We've just got to learn from this. It's going to make us stronger." - Opelika-Auburn News
