 Demetris Robertson, Auburn, Player News

Demetris Robertson scored three touchdowns and Jarquez Hunter rushed for 147 yards as No. 25 Auburn raced past FCS program Alabama State 62-0 on Saturday. After a fast start in Bryan Harsin's first game as head coach last week, Auburn (2-0) was held to just one offensive touchdown and fewer than 200 yards in the first half. But the Tigers erupted for 35 points in the third quarter to pull away with ease. "The second half, we came and did what we wanted to do," Harsin said. "We made the adjustments and executed those in the second half. The first half was a little bit sluggish. … But it was good to see our halftime adjustments actually show up." Robertson, who transferred from SEC rival Georgia this summer, had three catches for 61 yards and two touchdowns and added a 36-yard touchdown run on a sweep in the third.

Hunter, a freshman, broke the Auburn record for longest run with a 94-yard touchdown later in the quarter. Auburn had a quiet first half but special teams excelled with a punt block and a field-goal block that was returned 80 yards for a touchdown by Nehemiah Pritchett. It marked the first time the Tigers have blocked two kicks in a game since their famous 2013 Iron Bowl win over Alabama. - Auburn/AP College Football

Auburn added 10 players through the transfer portal this offseason, but one of those additions has yet to arrive on campus as the team reports for the start of fall camp. Former Georgia wide receiver Demetris Robertson has not yet joined the team, Auburn coach Bryan Harsin said Thursday, but that is expected to change imminently. According to Harsin, Robertson is still wrapping up a few thing from an academic standpoint to finish up his undergraduate degree at Georgia. Harsin said the former five-star prospect could arrive on the Plains as early as Friday when the Tigers hit the field for their first of 25 fall practices. That means that, while he has yet to report to the team, Robertson could still conceivably not miss a practice with his new team.

"In his situation, he will (be at Auburn)," Harsin said. "He's right there. No, he's going to be here today, but he's very close, I'll just say that.... Just from an academic standpoint, making sure we have everything all buttoned up and good to go once he gets here. We anticipate that to be very soon, hopefully tomorrow, and have him out there for practice. If not, the next couple days. "But he's close, he's been working hard, he's staying on top of it. I appreciate that about him. It's very important to him. He's an older player, he's mature. So those things - we all feel very good. But like everybody, we just want to get him here and get him started as fast as possible. We're hoping that tomorrow we'll get a chance to do that." - Birmingham News

Auburn added three transfers from SEC schools this offseason, but Robertson is the one who likely has the best chance to play a significant role this season. Robertson showed flashes during his three years at Georgia but never lived up to the hype created by his freshman season at California in 2016, when he earned Freshman All-American honors after reeling in 50 passes for 767 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He left the Bulldogs this offseason after recording 42 receptions for 443 yards and three touchdowns over three seasons.

Robertson joins an Auburn receiving corps totally lacking experience; the returning leaders in receptions from last fall are Kobe Hudson and Ze'Vian Capers, who each had seven over 11 games as true freshmen. The Tigers do have talent at the position, but there's a clear window for Robertson to step in and use his standout speed to earn considerable playing time. - Opelika-Auburn News

Smart also recruited Robertson to Georgia after being named the Bulldogs' head coach after the 2015 season, and the former five-star receiver took an official visit to Georgia that spring before ultimately signing with Cal and heading out west. The two rekindled their bond three summers ago, when Robertson transferred from Cal following the 2017 season and signed with Smart's Georgia team. Over the last three years, the 6-foot, 190-pound receiver has appeared in 32 games for the Bulldogs, catching 42 passes for 443 yards and three touchdowns, adding another 161 yards rushing and one score on 10 carries. During the 2019 season, Robertson was Georgia's third-leading receiver, but he was never able to replicate the success he had during his freshman year at Cal, when he caught 50 passes for 767 yards and seven touchdowns while earning Freshman All-America honors.

After entering the transfer portal once more in June, Robertson committed to Auburn on July 8. Now, he'll have one more chance to try to live up to those five-star expectations, bringing a needed veteran presence to an Auburn receiving corps that is replacing its top-three receivers from last season. "(Robertson is) a good friend of mine and a great player," Georgia quarterback JT Daniels said. "I can't say enough good about D-Rob. Since he's been here, he and I have been good friends and really close. He's a good person, a great player…. I don't think anybody at Georgia will tell you anything other than we wish the best for him." - Birmingham News

After three years catching passes at Georgia, Demetris Robertson will be heading across to border to play for Bryan Harsin and his Auburn Tigers. The former Bulldog announced his decision to spend his final year of eligibility at Auburn via Twitter Thursday morning. "Thank you Georgia from the bottom of my heart for everything," Robertson wrote. "With that being said, I have decided to use my last year of eligibility at... Auburn University! I can't wait to get to work." At Georgia, Robertson played in 32 of 38 games from 2018-2020.

In his first season, Robertson only recorded rushing yards. However, his 2019 season was the strongest season he had at Georgia. He made 30 catches for 333 yards, the third-best on the team. Robertson finished out his time at Georgia with 12 catches for 110 yards in 2020. Two of Robertson's catches in 2020 came in Georgia's 27-6 win over Auburn. Prior to his transfer to his home state college, UGA, Robertson played at California. He picked up freshman All-American honors in 2016 after making 50 catches for 767 yards and seven touchdowns, the second-best on the team. The following season, he started the first two games but had to medically redshirt the rest of the season. - Birmingham News
