A new retail store is coming to Bryant-Denny Stadium as part of an expanded partnership the University of Alabama announced Monday with sports retailer Fanatics. Located in the marketplace below the south end zone seats and expected to open during the 2022 football season, the store is part of the next step in the NIL strategy. Called The Authentic, the retail outlet will have an area set aside for current athletes to conduct autograph signings and meet and greets and "conduct social media marketing to support sales of their NIL merchandise," the UA news release reads. "Fanatics will work with OneTeam Partners in securing group licensing rights for activation for NIL rights on merchandise, in addition to separate marketing and autographs partnerships," according to the UA news release. The OneTeam partnership allows athletes the ability to share in the revenue when fans buy the jersey featuring their name and number. - Birmingham News

  07/27/22 - *Will Anderson Jr.Jr/2023, Alabama, 6-4, 253 (DS#1 DE) + More +

Will Anderson can easily make his way to second place on Alabama's all-time sacks chart this season, but he's got a long way to go to catch Derrick Thomas, who was credited with 52 sacks from 1985-88 in years before sacks were included as official NCAA stats. Anderson, who had 17.5 sacks last season to lead the FBS, will open the season with 24.5 career sacks, fourth on the Alabama list behind Thomas, Jonathan Allen (28) and Kindal Moorehead (25). "I'm going to approach the season just like I approached it last year," Anderson said when asked about chasing sack records. "I'm just going to be Will Anderson. I'm not going to try to do anything special. I'm not going to go out there and try to be a hero. I'm just going to go out there and be myself, be the player that I was when I first got here and just help my teammates play good team football."

Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson was asked what he thought of Alabama outside linebacker Will Anderson's "game," and how difficult he is to prepare to play. "He's a dog," Jefferson said. "I love his game, He's very explosive and athletic. Going into the preparation for that week and Will Anderson, the main thing was just to try to get double-teams on him to slow him down, try to knock him off his path a little bit because once he gets going he's hard to stop." - Northwest Arkansas Times

The Football Writers Association of America released its 2022 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List today, selecting 85 defensive standouts from 61 schools in all 10 Division I FBS conferences plus independents. The watch list roster includes five returning players from last season's FWAA All-America team including 2021 winner Will Anderson Jr. of Alabama, five of the top 13 tacklers from last season, the top two sack leaders and six of the top 13, and two players in the secondary who each had five interceptions last year. The FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will announce finalists for the 2022 trophy on Nov. 16 and the winner will be unveiled Dec. 5 at the Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet in Charlotte, N.C.

Anderson, the Alabama linebacker who earned consensus All-America status as well as the 2021 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, headlines a trio of returning All-Americans coming off First Team honors. Anderson did it all last year for the College Football Playoff runner-up Crimson Tide, leading the nation in sacks with 17.5 to go with 33.5 tackles for loss and 101 total tackles – 57 solos – in his 15-game season. - Football Writers Association of America

The media vote is in and...it's a lot like previous years. For the seventh straight year, Alabama was picked to win the SEC championship in balloting at SEC media days. Defending champion Georgia was picked to win the East Division but received just 18 voting points to win the championship. Alabama had 158. Alabama's been the pick in 11 of the past 13 years. The only deviations came in 2012 when LSU was picked and 2015 when it was Auburn. Alabama would go on to win the league title in both of those seasons. In the string of six straight years of media picking the Tide, Alabama finished the season as SEC champions four times. - Birmingham News

Alabama placed 10 players on the 2022 Media Days preseason All-SEC first team, as voted on by members of the media this week in Atlanta. Earning first-team honors on offense for the Crimson Tide were quarterback Bryce Young, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, wide receiver Jermaine Burton and offensive lineman Emil Ekiyor. Linebackers Will Anderson and Henry To'oTo'o and defensive backs Jordan Battle and Eli Ricks were named to the first-team defense. Gibbs actually made the first team twice, also earning a nod as an "all-purpose" back. He was joined among the first-team specialists by Alabama kicker Will Reichard. Georgia was second behind Alabama with six first-team selections. Auburn had two first-team picks, running back Tank Bigsby and defensive lineman Derick Hall. - Birmingham News

  07/23/22 - Dallas TurnerJr/2024, Alabama, 6-3, 247 (DS#1 OLB) + More +

Nick Saban dropped some clear markers in his Tuesday speech at SEC media days about position groups of most concern as fall camp approaches -- cornerback, offensive line and wide receiver. Saban, though, can rest easy about his outside linebackers. Alabama has struck gold when recruiting the position in recent years and could have its best group of pass rushers in Saban's 16-season tenure to show for it this fall. And if the group was not already the nation's best last season -- a strong argument could be made it was -- junior Will Anderson wants to make sure of it this season. "As a room, that's our ultimate goal: we're going to be the best outside linebacker group in the nation," he said Tuesday in Atlanta. "We're going to prove that to everybody this year." The Tide finished third in the country in averaging 3.8 sacks per game last season, while Anderson led the country with 17.5 sacks.

Anderson lost his bookend in fifth-year senior Christopher Allen to an injury in the opener and five-star sophomore Drew Sanders was also injured after replacing Allen. But five-star freshman Dallas Turner emerged midseason to finish with 8.5 sacks while earning freshman All-America honors. "Dallas has always been a really good player," Anderson said. "I remember, like, watching him in practice and everything like that. He's always been the factor. He's gonna be really good for us this year. He's gonna be a big piece of our defense this year and I'm excited to watch him play." - Birmingham News

  07/22/22 - *Will Anderson Jr.Jr/2023, Alabama, 6-4, 253 (DS#1 DE) + More +

One of the many qualities that has endeared Will Anderson to Alabama fans was his decision last season to focus on football instead of pursuing financial gain from his name, image and likeness. Anderson said last November he would wait until after the season to strike NIL deals, a comment that drew praise from fans at the time as "refreshing" and "smart." But as the star pass rusher enters his junior and almost certainly final college season -- he is set to graduate in December -- Anderson has decided it is the right time to embrace NIL opportunities.

"I've been doing NIL deals," Anderson confirmed Tuesday at SEC media days in Atlanta. "It has [changed my life] a lot. It's been tremendous. It's been able to help me and family. I put money aside for, like of course myself, but I'm really doing NIL to help my family out a lot. "I don't want my parents to be stressing, worrying about how to get to my games, any of that stuff like that. To be able to take care of all that, help them out, make sure they're living well enough to balance everything out has been great." Anderson said during an appearance earlier this month on Atlanta's 92.9 The Game that he is driving a 2021 Porsche Cayenne GTS, which currently has resale prices in excess of $120,000. "It's smooth," he said. - Birmingham News

Tim Tebow appeared as a guest on "The Paul Finebaum Show" on Tuesday from the 2022 Southeastern Conference Media Days in Atlanta. Bryce Young, the Alabama quarterback and 2021 Heisman Trophy winner, was one of the first topics that Tebow and Paul Finebaum discussed. Finebaum asked Tebow what he remembers about coming to SEC Media Days. Tebow played quarterback at Florida from 2006-09, and he won the Heisman Trophy in 2007.

Tebow briefly talked about himself then transitioned to talking about Young. Tim Tebow on Bryce Young, Nissan Heisman House commercials..."Bryce is so poised," Tebow said. "I was with him just this past week in Pasadena, California, for the Nissan Heisman House commercials, which are so much fun to film with him. We filmed several together. He's just so calm and poised and nothing flusters him. You'll say, 'Well that's silly, you're comparing him to a commercial.' But that's just who he is. It's just his presence around all these former winners and on camera and everything. It never changes. He is always so steady and so even and calm." - Montgomery Advertiser
