  Trent Cloud, a wide receiver who last week entered the transfer portal after two seasons with the Cincinnati Bearcats, announced Wednesday via Twitter his commitment to the Hampton University Pirates.   Trent Cloud, a wide receiver from Cleveland who had 12 receptions for 83 yards with a touchdown in two seasons for the Cincinnati Bearcats, announced Wednesday via Twitter that he's entered the transfer portal.   2019 ALL-BIG SOUTH FIRST TEAM (COACHES): RB - Shai McKenzie, Gr., Hampton,...McKenzie became the first Hampton back with 1000 yards since 2012 as he finished with the fourth highest single season total in school history of 1,214 yards. His 216 carries is sixth most in single-season history. McKenzie ran for a career-best 167 yards in his final game against Monmouth, which is the most yards that Monmouth has given up to a running back this season. He had seven 100-yard games, including four in a row. McKenzie finished the regular season second in the Big South and 11th in FCS in rushing yards. - Hampton Football

He is currently ranked fifth in FCS with 14 pass breakups. Recorded a season high four tackles against Monmouth and had four pass breakups at Charleston Southern.   Texas Tech quarterback Jett Duffey continues to give West Virginia fits. The junior moved the offense at will in the first half and the Red Raiders used a fast start to beat West Virginia 38-17 on Saturday, handing the Mountaineers their fifth straight loss. Duffey threw for one touchdown to boost his total to 10 scores with two interceptions in his last five games after taking over in mid-September for the injured Alan Bowman. "We came out with a great focus. We have to continue it," Jett said. "I always believe in myself, I always believe that if I work hard and do what I need to do, then I will achieve what I want to achieve, no matter what's in my way."

Ta'Zhawn Henry and SaRodorick Thompson each had two first-half short scoring runs for Texas Tech (4-5, 2-4 Big 12), which broke a three-game losing streak and now has a bowl bid to fight for with three games left. "A lot of people are counting us out," said Texas Tech coach Matt Wells. "(We have) a little underdog mentality right now."   Deondre Francois threw two touchdown passes and Shai McKenzie ran for 152 yards and a score as Hampton pulled away from winless Presbyterian College in the second half to post its first Big South victory of the season, 40-17 on Saturday afternoon. McKenzie scored on an 11-yard run in the first minute of the game after Francois hit Marcel Paul with a 52-yard pass on the first play of the game. After Parker Maddrey put the Blue Hose (0-9, 0-4) on the board with a 32-yard field goal, Francois hit KeyRon Catlett from 10-yards out for a touchdown and hit him again for a 2-point conversion to make it 14-3 two minutes into the second quarter.

Francois hit Adeon Johnson from 9-yards out, but the Pirates missed on the 2-point conversion just before halftime to make it 20-3 at intermission. Brandon Thompson threw a 42-yard pass to Dohnte Meyers and then ran in from the 1 to pull Presbyterian within 20-17 midway through the third quarter, but the Blue Hose would not score again. Austin Bradley hit Jadakis Bonds with a 51-yard touchdown to give Hampton (5-4, 1-2) a 27-17 lead after three quarters, then ran in from 17 yards out to make it 33-17. Ohmante Jenkins returned a blocked Presbyterian punt 24 yards for the score to set the final margin. - AP College Football

  Shai McKenzie ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns, Deondre Francois threw three touchdown passes and Hampton defeated Virginia Lynchburg 56-6 on Saturday. Hampton (4-4) ran for 222 yards and passed for 216. The Pirates had four takeaways, all on fumbles. Francois completed 16 of 23 passes for 135 yards. His backup, Austin Bradley, was 6 of 7 for 70 yards and threw two more TD passes. Sherman Brown had 105 yards rushing with a long of 64 for Virginia Lynchburg, which was held to 267 total yards.   Deondre Francois threw three touchdown passes and ran for another on Saturday to lead Hampton to a 40-34 win over North Alabama in a Big South opener. Francois had 347 yards passing for the Pirates (3-2). William Robinson ran for 91 yards and a score and Jadakis Bonds caught 11 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Francois capped the first drive of the game with a goal-line keeper for a touchdown but a bad snap on the PAT resulted in a fumble which was scooped up by North Alabama's A.J. Bracey and returned for two points and the Pirates led 6-2.

Robinson ran for a score early in the second quarter and Francois connected with Bonds for a touchdown two plays following a North Alabama fumble to make it 20-2 at halftime. But the Lions (2-4) scored two touchdowns early in the third then turned two Francois interceptions into back-to-back touchdowns for a 27-25 lead midway through the fourth quarter. Francois answered with a short TD throw to KeyRon Catlett and followed with a 41-yard strike to Bonds to put the Pirate on top 40-27 with 3:17 left.   Jett Duffey passed for four touchdowns and ran for another in his first start of the season as Texas Tech knocked off No. 21 Oklahoma State 45-35 on Saturday. Texas Tech (3-2, 1-1 Big 12), coming off a 55-16 loss at Oklahoma two weeks ago, built a 20-0 lead 30 seconds into the second quarter to win its second straight in the series after going 0-10-2 in the teams' previous 12 meetings. Duffey completed 26 of 44 passes for 424 yards with scoring passes to Erik Ezukanma (56 yards), T.J. Vasher (21), KeSean Carter (14) and Dalton Rigdon (8). He ran for a 16-yard touchdown.

Oklahoma State (4-2, 1-2) committed five turnovers, three interceptions and two fumbles by redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders. Cowboys running back Chuba Hubbard, first in the FBS averaging 187.6 rushing yards going into Saturday, rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns. Sanders was 22 of 37 passing for 276 yards with touchdowns of 73 yards to Jordan McCray and 10 yards to Tylan Wallace. Wallace, who went into play leading Division I averaging 22.07 yards per catch among his 123.6 yards per game, had 11 catches for 85 yards, one touchdown in the closing minutes, and a long gain of 14 yards. He threw for 217 yards, including scoring passes of 70, 68 and a pair of five-yard connections, and finished the day with a 212.14 pass efficiency clip. Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Kameron Brown (Charleston Southern), Jayln Cagle (Gardner-Webb) and Kenji Bahar (Monmouth). - Big South Football

  SEPT 16/WEEK 3 BIG SOUTH FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Hampton running back/kick returner Darran Butts (Suffolk, Va.) amassed 199 all-purpose yards on just five touches(39.8 yard average) in Hampton's win over Howard. He recorded his first collegiate receiving touchdown on a 70-yard connection that gave Hampton its first score of the day and a 7-3 lead. Late in the first half, he nearly returned a kickoff for a touchdown as he went 90 yards before being knocked out of bounds at the five. The Pirates scored on the next play.   Deondre Francois led Hampton to a 41-20 win over Howard at the Chicago Football Classic on Saturday. Francois answered an early Howard field goal with a 70-yard touchdown throw to Darran Butts and Hampton led 7-3 early in the second quarter. He then hit Jadakis Bonds for a 68-yard score but the Pirates (2-1) missed the extra point, leaving it at 13-3 with 3:50 left in the half. Following a second field goal by the Bison (0-3), Butts took the kickoff 90 yards to the Howard 5 and then Francois hit Bonds again for a score and a 20-6 Pirates advantage. Howard squeezed in a touchdown before halftime, making it 20-13. Bonds' 44-yard touchdown run late in the third sealed the win for the Pirates. - AP College Football
