  2022 ALL-CAA FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM: Jadakis Bonds, Hampton, WR, Sr.,...Bonds, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound senior, leads the Pirates (4-6) with 44 catches for 787 yards and nine touchdowns this season. The previous two seasons, he had 114 receptions for 1,816 yards and 21 TDs. The Pirates season finale is Saturday at Towson. He is one of the most prolific wide receivers in Hampton Football history. Bonds holds both the single season and career touchdown records as well as the career receptions record. He was named first team all-conference in 2019 and also received All-American honors.   OCT 17 CAA FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Malcolm Mays, Jr., QB, Hampton (Arlington, Texas/Bowie),...After entering the game in the third quarter, Mays completed 15-of-23 passes for 208 yards and four touchdowns as Hampton rallied past UAlbany, 38-37 in overtime for its first CAA win. Trailing by 14 in the fourth quarter, Mays threw TD passes of 43 and 5 yards to tie the contest, and then hit Jadakis Bonds with a 7-yard strike in overtime for the game-winning score. - CAA Football

  Malcolm Mays threw four touchdown passes and his last scoring toss came in overtime and carried Hampton to a 38-37 victory over Albany on Saturday. Mays' 7-yard scoring toss to Jadakis Bonds made it 38-31. In their overtime possession, Great Danes quarterback Reese Poffenbarger - who also threw four touchdowns - connected with Quinn Zinobile from 15 yards out to make it 38-37, but the 2-point conversion attempt failed. The upset-minded Great Danes led 31-17 just four seconds into the fourth quarter when Todd Sibley ran it in from 5 yards out. Hampton (4-2, 1-2 Colonial Athletic Association) immediately answered when Mays threw a 43-yard scoring strike to Tyler Thompson 69 seconds later. Later, Mays led a 10-play, 82-yard drive that lasted 4:30 and ended when he threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Kymari Gray to tie it with 5:09 left to set up overtime. Poffenbarger threw for 337 yards and Thomas Greaney caught six passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns for Albany (1-5, 0-3). - AP College Football

  Malcolm Mays passed for two touchdowns, four different Hampton players scored on the ground and the Pirates beat Division II member Tuskegee 42-10 on Saturday. Mays opened the scoring with a 7-yard run and Elijah Burris made it 14-0 on a 20-yarder. Mays and Jadakis Bonds connected for 29-yard TD for a three-score lead. Bonds also scored on a 48-yard catch. Bonds caught five passes for 122 yards and two scores, and Burris had team-highs of 14 carries and 104 yards for Hampton (2-0). Mays added seven carries for 38 yards and a score. Christopher Zellous and Tymere Robinson also had rushing scores. Ryan Nettles was intercepted three times for Tuskegee. Stanley Garner, Qwahsin Townsel and Michael Crawford each had an interception for Hampton. The Golden Tigers were held to 175 total yards. - AP College Football

  Jadakis Bonds and Darran Butts each had a touchdown catch and Hampton won its season opener with a 31-28 victory over Howard on Saturday night. Christopher Zellous had a touchdown run from inside the red zone and Bonds made a two-handed, over-the-shoulder catch while crossing the goal line, giving Hampton a 14-6 lead with 11 seconds remaining before halftime. Darran Butts beat a defender for a reception and ran untouched into the end zone, stretching the Pirates' lead to 28-13. Howard scored 22 fourth-quarter points. Perez was 10-11 on field goals for the season with his long being 43 yards against North Carolina A&T. He earned conference Player of the Week honors twice for his performances against North Carolina A&T and Campbell.   2021 BIG SOUTH OFFENSIVE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Elijah Burris, RB, Hampton,...Burris is a finalist for the Stats Perform FCS Jerry Rice National Freshman of the Year Award, and led the Pirates with 640 rushing yards to rank first among all Big South freshmen and fifth overall in the league. He was fourth in the Big South in rushing yards per game (58.2), third in yards per rush (4.6) and tied for seventh with six rushing touchdowns. Burris was the FCS National Freshman of the Week after his 136-yard, 3-touchdown performance against Virginia Union in Week 1. His campaign also included 86 rushing yards and a 31-yard TD run in Hampton's win over North Carolina A&T, and 72 rushing yards with a score in the Pirates' victory over Howard. Burris led Hampton in rushing four times, and had two rushing touchdowns of at least 30 yards. He received six first-place votes and 30 points in the voting, ahead of Monmouth running back Jaden Shirden (six first-place votes and 22 points) and North Carolina A&T rusher Bhayshul Tuten (two first-place votes and 20 points). - Big South Football

  Jett Duffey scored on a 1-yard run with just over two minutes remaining and Hampton defeated Campbell 28-21 on Saturday. Duffey's score completed a 10-play, 75-yard drive that came after Dylan Earney connected with Jalen Kelsey on a 42-yard touchdown pass that had put the Fighting Camels ahead with 6:16 left. Duffey was 19 of 31 for 231 yards passing with two interceptions but scored twice rushing, finishing with 51 yards on 17 carries, to lead the Pirates (5-5, 3-3 Big South).   Keyondre White scored the game-winning touchdown on a 25-yard run in overtime to help Hampton beat Gardner-Webb 27-21 on Saturday. After Gardner-Webb failed to score on the opening drive of overtime, White went to his left but was met with defenders so he bounced outside with the help of a key block from quarterback Jett Duffey and reached the end zone for the third time this season. Duffey was 12 of 18 for 231 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions for Hampton (4-5, 2-3 Big South). Romon Copeland opened the scoring for Hampton, making a one-handed catch over the middle and spinning a defender before racing in for a 44-yard score. Duffey had scoring passes of 16 and 34 yards in the second quarter to give Hampton a 21-14 lead.   Jett Duffey threw two touchdown passes to lead Hampton to a 30-9 victory over North Carolina A&T on Saturday. Duffey was 17-of-28 passing for 285 yards. He tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jadakis Bonds that capped Hampton's (3-4, 1-2 Big South Conference) first series. Duffey's 72-yard TD pass to Romon Copeland stretched the Pirates' lead to 20-9 late in the third quarter. Copeland had 112 yards on just three receptions. Elijah Burris's 31-yard touchdown run gave the Pirates a 27-9 lead early in the fourth quarter. Burris finished with 16 carries for 86 yards. Jalen Fowler threw a 74-yard touchdown pass to Jamison Warren for North Carolina A&T (3-4, 2-2). Fowler completed 17 of 25 passes for 234 yards.   Jett Duffey threw for three touchdowns, including a 95-yarder to Hezekiah Grimsley as Hampton defeated Howard 48-32 before 14,000 fans on Saturday in the inaugural Truth and Service Classic. The 95-yard hookup from Duffey to Grimsley, who made the catch at about his own 25 and outran the defense the rest of the way, was the longest scoring pass in, not just Hampton's, but Big South Conference history. Saturday's 96th matchup between the two HBCU programs was the first college football game played at Audi Field, home of the D.C. United of Major League Soccer. It was also the fifth straight for Hampton in the so-called Battle of the Real HU. Vice President Kamala Harris, a Howard alumna, made a surprise appearance and walked onto the field for the pregame coin toss. It was won by Howard, which deferred to Hampton. - AP College Football

  SEPT 6 BIG SOUTH CO-FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Hampton's Elijah Burris (Gastonia, N.C.) rushed 15 times for 136 yards and three touchdowns, and finished the day with 194 all-purpose yards in helping Hampton to a 42-28 win over Virginia Union. He scored the Pirates' final two touchdowns, and set-up the first one with a 51-yard kickoff return. Burris had consecutive 30-yard runs on the final scoring drive and reached the end zone on the second run to cap a 96-yard drive.
