  06/27/20 - Grant McKinnissrSr/2022, Missouri, 6-0, 206 (DS#34 P) + More +

Missouri is adding a leg to its special teams unit from the SEC East Division. Grant McKinniss, a kicker and punter from Kentucky, will transfer to Mizzou for his final year of eligibility, he announced Friday on Twitter. McKinniss, from Findlay, Ohio, handled kickoffs for Kentucky each of the last two years and was the team's punter as a freshman in 2016 and averaged 39.2 yards per punt. The next year the Wildcats added All-American punter Max Duffy. McKinnis entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month. As UK's kickoff specialist last year, McKinniss ranked seventh in the SEC in touchback percentage at 62.9 percent. Mizzou's Tucker McCann led the league at 64.6 percent. McCann, a senior last season, handled punts, field goals/PATs and kickoffs last season. The Tigers signed high school recruit Harrison Mevis to push for the kicker job in 2020. - Post-Dispatch

  06/23/20 - Larry Rountree IIISr/2021, Missouri, 5-11, 211 (DS#13 RB) + More +

If you can forget for a moment that COVID-19 still threatens to sabotage the upcoming college football season and instead focus on the storylines that could command attention on the field this fall, Missouri's Larry Rountree III is a strong starting point. The senior running back might be the most important player on new coach Eliah Drinkwitz's 2020 roster. With a quarterback situation in flux and a shortage of established wide receivers and tight ends, Rountree is the closest thing to a sure bet in Drinkwitz's collection of playmakers, especially given the Tigers only had three spring practices before the coronavirus pandemic shut down all team activities three months ago.

With a passing game short on continuity and chemistry, a proven running back of Rountree's caliber is a treasured asset. With 2,748 rushing yards over three seasons, Rountree ranks sixth all time on Mizzou's career rushing list with a strong chance to become the program's most prolific rushing back in team history - by October. Here's the good news for Rountree: In Drinkwitz's brief but successful career calling plays, he's always had a productive, high-volume running back. "Obviously we know the importance of that position and what it means and how it balances," Drinkwitz said, "especially for a new quarterback so that he doesn't have to feel like every play he has to be 100 percent right. He can turn around and hand off to the tailback and he can get you yards." - Post-Dispatch

  06/21/20 - Keke ChismrSr/2022, Missouri, 6-4, 209 (DS#111 WR) + More +

The Missouri football team has added another experienced wide receiver through the transfer market. Keke Chism, the leading receiver at Division II Angelo State the last two years, announced on Twitter that he's transferring to Mizzou. He's a grad transfer and will be immediately eligible for the 2020 season, a source confirmed. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound wideout announced earlier in the week he was entering the NCAA transfer portal. He'll have one remaining year of eligibility. Chism, whose first name is Torrian, was a standout football and basketball player in Daingerfield, Texas, before signing to play receiver at Angelo State. He was a first-team selection in the All-Lone Star Conference last year when he caught 60 passes for 878 and six touchdowns, a year after catching 69 passes for 959 and six scores. His 2,221 career receiving yards is sixth all-time at the school. - Post-Dispatch

Conventional wisdom probably told you months ago that Eli Drinkwitz and his staff had called it a wrap on their 2020 recruiting class...until the bat signal went up and a few noticed a seldom seen hashtag these days...#NewZOU20, indicating this wasn't one of the recruits with Mizzou trending in the Crystal Ball, but something out of left field.   06/12/20 - Grant McKinnissrSr/2022, Missouri, 6-0, 206 (DS#34 P) + More +

Kentucky football kickoff specialist Grant Mckinniss is planning to transfer out of the program A UK spokeswoman confirmed the news first reported by Rivals.com Friday. McKinniss arrived at UK ranked as the No. 4 punter in the high school class of 2016, according to Scout.com, but he only started at punter for one season. As a freshman, he averaged 39.2 yards per punt. He lost the starting punting job before the 2017 season to Australian Matt Panton, a graduate transfer and ended up redshirting.

Panton's success led UK to recruit former professional Australian Rules Football Player Max Duffy, who has held down the starting punting job the last two seasons and won the Ray Guy Award as college football's best punter in 2019. Duffy has one season of eligibility remaining. With Duffy entrenched at punter, McKinniss used his leg strength as the Wildcats' kickoff specialist the last two seasons, recording touchbacks on 61.7% of his kickoffs in 2019. McKinniss completed his undergraduate degree in December and would be eligible to play immediately at another FBS program as a graduate transfer. - Courier Journal

  05/31/20 - Jack AbrahamrSr/2023, Missouri, 5-11, 205 (DS#999 QB) + More +

At the surface level, Ole Miss quarterback John Rhys Plumlee and Southern Miss quarterback Jack Abraham are classic foils. Plumlee is a Hattiesburg native playing college ball in Oxford. Abraham is an Oxford native playing college ball in Hattiesburg. Plumlee is a dual-threat quarterback with 4.4 speed. Abraham is a pocket passer with precision accuracy. Abraham transferred twice before he found a school where he could start. Plumlee started eight games in the SEC as a true freshman. In the past, QB Country has worked with Eli Manning, Gardner Minshew, Nick Mullens and Jake Fromm, according to its website.

Plumlee and Abraham have independently trained with the founder of QB Country, former Ole Miss quarterback David Morris, since they were in high school. But the lack of school activities this spring, coupled with the fact that both quarterbacks were living in Hattiesburg, allowed an easy commute to Mobile where each quarterback could hone their craft. "Jack can really sling it," Plumlee said. "He's got a really good arm and can really throw it. When you get around guys that are really talented, it pushes you to be better. We're not all working on the same thing in a sense. But we are all definitely pushing each other just by being around each other." - The Clarion Ledger

The Tigers have a history of developing talent, and Bolton is the latest example. He was a three-star prospect coming out of high school who has become a five-star player at Missouri. And the transformation has happened rather quickly. Bolton was a consensus All-SEC pick as a sophomore last season after recording a whopping 107 tackles, 7.5 tackles for losses, two interceptions and eight pass break-ups. He's the total package. - Gainesville Sun

  05/05/20 - Theo Wease Jr.rSr/2025, Missouri, 6-3, 200 (DS#54 WR) + More +

Before the Peach Bowl, Oklahoma receiver Theo Wease was asked about his experience playing behind CeeDee Lamb. "When you're playing behind the best receiver in the country, there's no rush," Wease said. "Your time will always come." That time might arrive sooner than expected. Entering his sophomore season Wease will be among those expected to pick up the slack if Jadon Haselwood is unable to recuperate before OU's opener. Haselwood is sidelined for the foreseeable future with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to multiple reports, leaving the Sooners' receiving room thinner than planned. OU was already trying to fortify one of its outside receiver positions with Lamb moving on to the NFL after a decorated collegiate career.

The rebuild is even more important considering the playmaking Haselwood flashed as a freshman - his 19 catches for 272 yards didn't draw much national attention, but he averaged 14.3 yards per grab. Haselwood, at 6 feet 2 inches, was also one of OU's bigger targets outside. He and redshirt junior Charleston Rambo's were natural candidates to become OU's go-to names at the Z receiver position. Wease, who plays the same spot, had big moments as a freshman, including two catches for 31 yards and a touchdown in OU's 25-point comeback against Baylor. That experience looms larger with context of Haselwood's injury. "It was a blessing, honestly," Wease said in December. "My number got called, I stepped up to the plate. My coaches showed their trust in me. I stepped up to the plate and executed." - Norman Transcript

  04/26/20 - *Albert OkwuegbunamrJr/2020, Missouri, 6-5, 258 (DS#4 TE) + More +

In 2017 as a freshman, Albert Okwuegbunam caught 11 touchdown passes from former Missouri quarterback Drew Lock. Now, the former Missouri tight end will reunite with Lock in Denver as the Broncos drafted Okwuegbunam in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft on Saturday. Lock was chosen in the second round of last year's draft by John Elway and Co. "I can't wait to get up there," Okwuegbunam said during a phone call with Elway on Saturday, which the Broncos recorded and posted to their social media accounts. "Man, this is amazing. I can't wait to get back with Drew. It's gonna be great." "We're really excited about you," Elway replied. "You're going to be a great fit for us. We talked to Drew this morning and he loves you to death, so we're thrilled that you're there." Okwuegbunam proved himself to be among the elite tight ends in this draft class when it came to receiving and running. He ran the fastest 40-yard dash time of any tight end at the NFL Combine in 4.49 seconds. - Columbia Daily Tribune

  03/22/20 - Kelly BryantrSr/2020, Missouri, 6-3, 229 (DS#16 QB) + More +

Bryant rated himself at 100% health at the combine. He took a moment before he ran the 40-yard dash to relax and purely soak in the experience. "This is it. Me being from a small town, Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, this is what all the kids back home and all over dream about - being in a position right here to showcase your abilities across the world," Bryant said. From that moment on, Bryant said his movements felt smooth at the combine and he was pleased with his performance. While in Indianapolis, no team asked Bryant about changing positions, though he's shown elusiveness as a dual-threat quarterback.

Since leaving Columbia, Bryant has worked on playing in an offense that would force him to take snaps from under center, which he rarely did at Missouri or Clemson. He's also worked on the mechanics of his throws, to not just use his arm strength, but his entire body for deeper throws. Bryant was preparing for Missouri's pro day, which would've been this past Tuesday, before its cancellation due to the novel coronavirus. "I wash my hands so much that I can basically see the bone in my hand," Bryant said, adding that the constant use of hand sanitizer is also among his precautions for COVID-19. He's currently working out at D1 Training in Powdersville, South Carolina, with the draft just more than a month away. - Columbia Daily Tribune

  03/17/20 - Yasir DurantSr/2020, Missouri, 6-6, 331 (DS#19 OT) + More +

Former Missouri offensive lineman Yasir Durant returned to Columbia a few days ago thinking he was here to participate in the Tigers' pro day. His plans for Tuesday - like most people's - have since changed. The showcase event, set to take place on campus with NFL scouts coming to town to get an up-close look at Durant, Albert Okwuegbunam, Kelly Bryant and other MU football alumni, was canceled late last week due to the novel coronavirus. Gone with it was another chance for Durant, a three-year starter with the Tigers, to raise his stock for the NFL Draft later this year. The 6-foot-6, 330-pound Durant said Monday afternoon he was scheduled to participate in position drills at the Missouri pro day along with testing his vertical jump and strength on the bench press.

One reason why the Missouri pro day was important to Durant was improving upon his combine statistics and showing growth to professional scouts. Durant wanted to finish 24 or 25 reps on the bench press to further prove he's ready to contribute at the next level. "Since they shut everything down, I haven't really been going anywhere to train," Durant said. "I've been doing stuff on my own, push-ups, abs and stuff that I can do at my house that can keep me still working. Not so much of all the extra stuff, all the advanced stuff, because I haven't been able to go anywhere." Durant is looking for another gym to continue his pre-draft workouts while also studying online to finish his degree in sports management at Missouri. - Columbia Daily Tribune

  02/18/20 - Kelly BryantrSr/2020, Missouri, 6-3, 229 (DS#16 QB) + More +

2020 NFL COMBINE INVITE: Kelly Bryant, QB, Missouri,...Bryant was one of the most highly coveted graduate transfers in the off-season, and he was a major recruiting win for Mizzou when he chose to play his last season in a Tiger uniform. Injuries kept Bryant from showing his true abilites during the year, but he still managed to throw for 2,215 yards and 15 touchdowns, while rushing for 242 yards and one score despite not being 100 percent for much of the year. Bryant was outstanding in his Tiger debut, when he threw for a career-best 423 yards at Wyoming, and when he led the team to a five-game win streak, which included three-touchdown passing games against West Virginia and Troy. - Missouri Football
