Trinidad Chambliss passed for 314 yards and a touchdown - a third straight 300-yard passing performance for the Division II transfer- and No. 13 Mississippi defeated No. 4 LSU 24-19 on Saturday. Kewan Lacy ran for a 15-yard touchdown and former LSU running back Logan Diggs added a 6-yard scoring run for Ole Miss (5-0, 3-0 SEC), which outgained the Tigers, 480 yards to 254. LSU (4-1, 1-1), which has struggled to run the ball this season, played without top running back Caden Durham and gained just 57 yards on the ground. That placed added pressure on quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who completed 21 of 34 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown, but also was intercepted once. Still, the Tigers had a chance to pull within a field goal after Harlem Berry's 6-yard touchdown run with 5:04 left, but LSU's 2-point conversion attempt failed when Suntarine Perkins stuffed Ju'Juan Johnson's run.

Ole Miss, which finished with 166 yards rushing, bled the clock with first-down runs by Chambliss and Lacy before Chambliss' fourth-down completion to tight end Dae'Quan Wright sealed it. Wright had a chance to score, but went down, allowing the Rebels to run out the clock. Ole Miss responded by driving inside the LSU 10, settling for a short field goal. But the rhythm the Rebels established on that series carried over into the second quarter, when Mississippi outgained LSU 197-40, scored two TDs and came within 3 yards of another score. Receiver Cayden Lee was racing toward the end zone after a long catch over the middle when AJ Haulcy's heavy hit forced a fumble that safety Mansoor Delane recovered in the end zone. The play preserved a 7-3 Tigers lead. Lacy gave Mississippi a 10-7 lead, capping a drive on which the Rebels benefited from four LSU penalties for 49 yards - including one for roughing the passer and two for pass interference. Lee's 2-yard reception near the pylon made it 17-7 just before halftime on a series that included a fourth-and-1 conversion on Chambliss' quick pass to Dae'Quan Wright. Damian Ramos' fields goals of 40 and 48 yard field goal pulled LSU to 17-13 in the third quarter before Diggs' TD widen Ole Miss' lead again in the fourth. - Ole Miss/AP College Football

  09/25/25 - Horatio FieldsrSr/2027, Mississippi, 6-2, 201 (DS#100 WR) + More +

Auburn receiver Horatio Fields, who ranks third on the team with 12 receptions for 106 yards a touchdown this season, is sidelined indefinitely with a broken foot. Coach Hugh Freeze said the 6-foot-2 senior was injured in practice Tuesday. Fields transferred to Auburn this year after four years at Wake Forest. "Kind of the leader of that receiver room who knew every position and gave us flexibility to do a lot of things," Freeze said during the Southeastern Conference coaches conference call Wednesday. "And it's a difficult loss." Freeze said sophomore Perry Thompson is the next man up and will get a chance to fill Fields' role when the Tigers (3-1, 0-1 SEC) play at No. 9 Texas A&M (3-0, 0-0) on Saturday. "It's his time to show he's ready and to earn it, and obviously we're getting Sam (Turner) prepared, too, to help," Freeze said. "Perry has the potential and talent to do really good things. "He's got to learn to do them consistently, over and over again, and with technique. He shows flashes of that. Now we just need it to be more consistent, but he'll be the first one to get that opportunity." - AP College Football

Trinidad Chambliss threw for two touchdowns, Kewan Lacy added a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs and No. 13 Mississippi handed Tulane its first loss with a 45-10 victory Saturday. Ole Miss (4-0) dominated the Green Wave, building a 23-3 halftime lead, after earning consecutive close wins over SEC foes Kentucky and Arkansas. "I'm really proud because we were coming off two hard games and we could have been looking ahead next week to LSU," Mississippi coach Lane Kiffin said. "Our players and coaches came out and took care of business. It was a dominating day against a really well-coached team that plays hard." Chambliss, confirmed as the starting quarterback on Thursday, provided a second consecutive strong performance with 17-of-27 passing for 307 yards while adding 112 yards on 14 rushes. "It's cool to see him do that because we expect him to play well," Kiffin said. "For a second straight week, he did not have a turnover and 4-0, that sounds really good." Deuce Alexander had four receptions for 94 yards, including a 33-yard TD reception.

Dae'Quan Wright caught a 5-yard scoring pass as Chambliss connected with seven receivers. "I'm just glad Trinidad trusted me enough to throw me the ball," Alexander said. "We've got a lot of guys with skills that can play and we respect each other. As long as we get the ‘W,' that's all that matters." Former starter Austin Simmons, recovering from a severe ankle injury, dressed but did not play after finishing a scoring series in a brief appearance in last week's win over Arkansas. Lacy finished with 68 yards on 18 rushes, while Logan Diggs added a 2-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth period. Lucas Carneiro added field goals of 22, 54 and 34 yards. The Rebels finished with 548 yards of total offense and scored on all six trips to the red zone. Tulane (3-1) managed only 282 yards of total offense and turned the ball over on downs three times in the second half. Jake Retzlaff, after an 0-for-9 start, finished 5 of 17 for 56 yards. - Mississippi/AP College Football

Backup quarterback Trinidad Chambliss ran for two touchdowns and threw for one in a surprise start, and No. 17 Mississippi outlasted Arkansas 41-35 on Saturday night. Chambliss had rushing touchdowns of 1 and 2 yards, and his 6-yard TD pass to De'Zhaun Stribling gave Ole Miss (3-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) a 38-28 lead in the third quarter. Chambliss finished 21 of 29 passing for 353 yards in place of Austin Simmons, who was sidelined by a foot injury he sustained in last week's win at Kentucky. "I knew this week after Austin got hurt that there was going to be more on my plate," Chambliss said. "You prepare to play every week and our coaches had a great plan and we really executed as a team. I'm so proud of our guys."

Simmons spent most of the week in a walking boot, but practiced late in the week and was expected to start. He made a brief appearance in the second quarter, throwing a 4-yard touchdown pass to Harrison Wallace III to give Ole Miss a 28-21 lead. But he limped back to the sideline after his only pass of the game and did not play in the second half. "Great job by Trinidad, obviously, and a great job by our coaches getting our backup quarterback ready," Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said. "Trinidad really took care of the ball, got out of trouble all night and only got sacked once." Taylen Green threw for a touchdown and ran for one for Arkansas (2-1, 0-1), finishing with 111 yards rushing on 13 carries. He went 22 of 35 passing for 305 yards. Mike Washington Jr. ran for 65 yards and two TDs. - Mississippi/AP College Football

Jonathan Maldonado returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown with 2:17 to play and Nevada defeated Sacramento State 20-17 on Saturday after the Hornets had touchdowns on consecutive plays in the last minute nullified by penalties before they missed a field goal. Sacramento State quickly marched from its 35 to the Nevada 3 with 29 seconds to go. On a third down, quarterback Cardell Williams scampered nine yards for the apparent go-ahead score but a holding penalty wiped that out.

Williams then threw a touchdown pass from the 19 that was wiped out by a penalty. The Hornets then ran a play to set up a 41-yard field goal attempt that Grant Meadors missed to the right. The Hornets had an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after the miss as well. Nevada quarterback Chubba Purdy threw two interceptions but he rushed for 115 yards on 22 keepers and scored a touchdown. The Wolf Pack (1-1) rushed for 268 yards and Purdy threw for 144. Williams was 10-of-13 passing for 151 for Sacramento State (0-2), which finished with 372 yards. He threw a touchdown pass to Ernest Campbell and Rodney Hammond Jr. had a rushing score. - Nevada/AP College Football

  09/06/25 - Kewan LacySo/2028, Mississippi, 5-10, 210 (DS#3 RB) + More +

Kewan Lacy ran for 138 yards and a touchdown to help No. 20 Mississippi beat Kentucky 30-23 on Saturday in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams. The Rebels (2-0) avenged a 20-17 loss to the Wildcats last year in Oxford and have won four of the past five games against Kentucky. Lacy and quarterback Austin Simmons accounted for 376 of 457 total yards of offense for Ole Miss. Simmons threw for 235 yards and overcame a pair of interceptions that resulted in an early 10-0 deficit.

Harrison Wallace III caught four passes for 117 yards for the Rebels, who had four explosive plays that went for 20 or more yards. Wallace hauled in a 55-yard strike from Simmons in the second quarter that led to Ole Miss' first score. Seth McGowan rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns for Kentucky (1-1). Zach Calzada threw for 149 yards before leaving the game in the fourth quarter after taking an apparent hit to the shoulder. - Mississippi/AP College Football
