With Michigan losing cornerbacks DJ Turner and Gemon Green to the NFL this offseason, the team will be searching for a new starter in 2023 to play the opposite side of burgeoning sophomore Will Johnson. The Wolverines are only two practices into spring ball, but head coach Jim Harbaugh said Thursday they might have potentially found that player. "Amorion Walker is - I consider him a starter right now, just off the first few practices," Harbaugh said. Michigan doesn't have much experience at the corner position and has Walker primarily focusing on defense this spring. The rising sophomore is a former three-star receiver recruit from Louisiana who played just six snaps at corner in 2022 and five at receiver.

But his speed and length - he's listed at 6-foot-3 - make him an intriguing option on the outside heading into 2023. Earlier this month, Johnson posted a video on social media of Walker running the three-cone drill. The drill was timed by Michigan's coaching staff, and he clocked in at 6.10 seconds, which would be a record at the NFL Scouting Combine. "You just don't know for sure whether it's receiver or corner, but the length he has, the athletic ability that he has, speed that he has and the change of direction, mainly, for a guy that's 6-3, 6-4," Harbaugh said. "It's rare for a corner to be able to have that length and speed, but have that change of direction. So you just want to find out, and that's what I think what (defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale) thinks. But we'll see if we're right." - Ann Arbor News

Ole Miss seriously struggled at the tight end position last season. The addition of Michael Trigg was huge, but he was not physically ready to start in the SEC and suffered from injuries as a result. The position contributed under 175 receiving yards in 2022, and that number must rise in 2023 if the offense is going to take the next step. Prieskorn is going to be mammoth over the middle. At 6-foot-6, 255 pounds, he will be bigger than just about every SEC linebacker and even some defensive ends. This will give the Rebels a serious physical threat in the intermediate portion of the field that simply did not exist last season.

In 2022, it was impossible for players crossing the middle to go untouched, and it resulted in poorly timed throws, turnovers and a general lack of production. But given that LBs will struggle to redirect Prieskorn, expect to see the middle of the field targeted with much more efficiency. At Memphis, Prieskorn was used a fair amount as a jumbo slot receiver, as opposed to strictly being an in-line tight end. I suspect the Rebels will use Trigg outside of the formation more often, but having two tight ends with that versatility opens up intriguing motion options out of 12 personnel. As a run blocker, Prieskorn is about what you'd expect from someone of his size. He shows good power blocking downhill and was able to seal off defenders to open lanes. - Daily Mississippian

As he often does, Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin spoke in NFL terms when he broke down his two quarterback additions out of the transfer portal. Spencer Sanders, a four-year starter at Oklahoma State, is the veteran. Walker Howard, a top-five quarterback in last year's recruiting class from LSU, is the draft pick. "I'm very excited about the quarterback room," Kiffin said Wednesday. "I was very concerned about it from pure numbers, you guys can figure that out. My job is to put together the best roster every year. And you know, we had a chance to bring those two guys in."

Kiffin was asked if there would be a quarterback competition between Sanders, Walker and returning starter Jaxson Dart and did not provide a straight answer. He did, however, explain that he was pleased with Dart's progress as the season went on. Dart finished the season with a 62.4% completion rate, 2,974 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. "I think Jaxson did a lot of great things last year," Kiffin said. "I know Jaxson, when he initially played versus the middle and end, dramatically improved for a young quarterback. We're very excited about continuing that." - The Clarion Ledger

Fifth-year senior and safety Otis Reese transferred from the University of Georgia but came to Ole Miss his junior year and played three seasons with the Rebels. Reese was smooth with his hands and can get in contact with the ball without drawing flags. For the Rebels, he showed natural balance, quick feet, excellent awareness and was skilled at reading routes and quarterbacks. Reese showed great talent during his final year as an Ole Miss Rebel and is a promising prospect for the 2023 NFL Draft. - Daily Mississippian

The self-described Portal King has struck again. On Thursday morning, Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss football landed Oklahoma State transfer quarterback Spencer Sanders, the second QB to join the Rebels' transfer class in as many days. Sanders was a four-year starter for the Cowboys, accumulating 9,553 passing yards, 67 touchdowns and 40 interceptions over the course of his career. Last season, he completed 57.6% of his passes for 2,642 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Sanders, a product of Denton, Texas, listed at 6-foot-1, has rushed the ball at least 100 times in each of his four seasons behind center, amassing 1,956 yards on the ground and 18 touchdowns. This acquisition by Kiffin could indicate that Jaxson Dart has some competition for the starting quarterback job this offseason. Sanders has only one season of eligibility remaining and is choosing to spend it at Ole Miss. - The Clarion Ledger

It's getting more and more interesting at quarterback for OIe Miss. Coach Lane Kiffin, who is never satisfied, brought in USC Trojan transfer Jaxson Dart before the 2022 season. Jaxson Dart threw for 2,974 yards, had 20 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions but must fight in camp to keep his job. LSU freshman quarterback Walker Howard is leaving Baton Rouge and transferring to Ole Miss, which also has Oklahoma State transfer Spencer Sanders. Howard was a four-star recruit out of St. Thomas More (La.) and ranked as the No. 40 overall recruit in his class. At LSU, Howard completed 2 of 4 passes for 7 yards and retained redshirt status. He rushed six times for 33 yards.

The Ole Miss staff saw backup and former four-star Luke Altmyer enter the portal and transfer to Illinois. Dart has some decisions to make. Does he want to battle Spencer Sanders for the QB1 spot, or transfer someplace where there is less competition? Sanders has just one year of collegiate eligibility remaining. Sanders has the inside track to QB1, which should mean Dart should seek other opportunities. Stay tuned. - By Frank Cooney, NFL Draft Scout

Ole Miss football's offensive line received a noteworthy addition when Washington transfer Victor Curne announced his commitment Tuesday to play for the Rebels. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound Curne is a two-time All-Pac-12 honorable mention, and played primarily as a right tackle for the Huskies. "Committed to The Sip. Blessed," Curne wrote on Twitter. Curne played in just three games for the Huskies in 2022, though, having lost his starting job. He has one season of eligibility remaining. - The Clarion Ledger

In in 2019, DeShawn Gaddie came to North Texas as one of the Mean Green's top-rated recruits of the last few years. The former Arlington Lamar standout announced Monday that he is entering the transfer portal after capitalizing on his talent and developing into one of the Mean Green's top players. Gaddie finished with 61 tackles, broke up 13 passes and forced two fumbles last season when he helped anchor UNT's secondary at cornerback.

He has two years of eligibility remaining. Gaddie is expected to be a hot commodity on the transfer market after proving to be one of UNT's more versatile players. He played both cornerback and safety during his time with the Mean Green. Gaddie was an honorable mention All-Conference USA selection last season. He is the second key player UNT has lost to the transfer portal in the last few weeks. - Denton Record

In the second full offseason of college football's transfer portal-induced mayhem, there have been a few small changes evident amid the chaos. Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, who grabbed seven standout transfers, warns that not all will make an immediate impact.   Heralded freshman quarterback Walker Howard intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal after one year at LSU, sources confirmed Wednesday to The Advocate. Howard redshirted after appearing in two games last fall. He completed 2 of 4 passes for 7 yards, all in the fourth quarter of the Tigers' 63-7 Citrus Bowl win against Purdue, but coach Brian Kelly expressed excitement about his development. Howard has four years of eligibility. Howard, a Lafayette native and the son of former LSU quarterback Jamie Howard, was the No. 40 overall player and No. 5 quarterback in the 2022 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.   One of college football's top tight ends last season will be making the short trip from Memphis to Oxford for 2023. Caden Prieskorn, a Memphis transfer and a John Mackey Award semifinalist in 2022, announced on Twitter that he's committed to Ole Miss. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound native of Lake Orion, Michigan, finished the season with 48 receptions for 602 yards and seven touchdowns.   Half of the duo is accounted for. South Carolina has been waiting since the Gator Bowl ended to see if two vital pieces of this season's offense, quarterback Spencer Rattler and receiver Juice Wells, will return for 2023 or head to the NFL. On Monday, 50 percent of the question was answered. "Run it back," captioned a video that Wells posted on social media on Monday evening, featuring a hand holding an empty cup that was soon filled with juice. There isn't yet any word from Rattler, who still has a week until the NFL's deadline for early entrants arrives. Rattler and Wells attended the first team meeting of the spring semester on Sunday night.

Wells, a transfer from James Madison, was brought in during the offseason as a hopeful upgrade to what was already an experienced receiver corps. He figured to add depth to a spot that returned 2021 leader Josh Vann, plus Dakereon Joyner, Ahmarean Brown, Xavier Legette and a sheaf of tight ends, including Jaheim Bell. Instead, Wells broke loose for 68 catches and 928 yards, each the second-best total in the SEC behind Biletnikoff Award winner Jalin Hyatt of Tennessee. Wells also scored seven touchdowns. - The Post and Courier
