  12/14/20 - Xavior WilliamsrSr/2022, Iowa, 6-0, 195 (DS#71 CB) + More +

UNI defensive back Xavior Williams was selected as an East-West Shrine Bowl All-Star. The game will not be played, but Williams will have the chance to participate in virtual training sessions with NFL personnel and scouts ahead of the 2021 NFL draft. Williams is the third Panther to be selected for a post-season all-star game. Spencer Brown and Elerson Smith were both chosen to participate in the Reese's Senior Bowl. He is the sixth Panther to be chosen for the East-West Shrine Bowl since Coach Mark Farley took over the program in 2001.

In three seasons, Xavior finished with nine interceptions, including a pick-six, two fumble recoveries, including a fumble return touchdown, 33 passes defended and 122 total tackles. He also recorded 896 return yards during his career. He was expected to be a key contributor for the 2020 Panther defense before the season was moved to the spring. Williams, like Brown and Smith, chose to opt-out of their senior season and prepare for the draft. - Northern Iowa Football

  12/13/20 - Ihmir Smith-MarsetteSr/2021, Iowa, 6-1, 181 (DS#32 WR) + More +

Smith-Marsette's career-best 140 receiving yards on seven catches came at a price. He left the game after injuring his left ankle on the celebration and later returned to the sideline wearing a sweatshirt and a boot. But he'll always remember this game, the day he and the Hawkeyes got over the Wisconsin hump. "Do I regret the flip? No. Would I do it again? Yeah. I'm just happy we got the win," Smith-Marsette said. "Everyone was having fun. My senior year, never going to play in Kinnick again … got to go out with a bang." Iowa finished the game with 338 yards, 171 of them on three plays, against the nation's top-ranked defense. Petras finished 14-for-25 for 211 yards. His four second-half completions averaged 31 yards. - Iowa City Press-Citizen

It'll be very interesting to see what junior defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon decides to do. The smart money is on him turning pro, as he has had a marvelous season Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz said wouldn't surprise him to see end with all-America honors. "I'm just approaching it as if it's another game," a noncommittal Nixon said. "As if it's any other game." - The Gazette

  12/09/20 - *Daviyon NixonJr/2021, Iowa, 6-3, 313 (DS#2 DT) + More +

2020 BRONKO NAGURSKI TROPHY FINALIST: Daviyon Nixon, DT, Iowa (6-3, 305, Jr., Kenosha, Wis.): Nixon is the rare playmaker tucked in the middle of Iowa's line. He has broken through consistent double-teams to lead the Big Ten with 5.0 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss in just seven games in his first season on the Iowa front. His 36 tackles are tied for the most among Big Ten defensive linemen. Nixon opened the season with seven tackles at Purdue and then posted a career-high 11 against West Division champion Northwestern, and his 71-yard interception return for a touchdown at Penn State remains a national season highlight. Iowa has not had a Nagurski Trophy winner but linebackers Josey Jewell (2017) and Pat Angerer (2009) are recent finalists. A Nixon win would give the Big Ten consecutive honorees after not having a trophy winner since 2006 and Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis. Ohio State defensive end Chase Young won last year. - Football Writers Association of America/Charlotte Touchdown Club
