Clemson allowed just six rushing yards to a Louisiana Tech, which racked up 300 on Stephen F. Austin a week earlier. And the Tigers didn't have defensive linemen Bryan Bresee, Tyler Davis, and Tre Williams. Bresee should be back for the Wake Forest game, and Swinney said Tyler Davis could have played against Louisiana Tech but they wanted to save him. Williams had a sore knee, which is concerning, given his injury history, but Swinney doesn't believe any of the Tigers' current injuries are long-term. Bresee missed time because of a death in the family - Charleston Post Courier

  09/17/22 - Will ShipleyJr/2024, Clemson, 5-11, 206 (DS#8 RB) + More +

Will Shipley ran for a career-high 139 yards and two touchdowns as No. 5 Clemson took control in the second half to beat Louisiana Tech 48-20 on Saturday night for its ninth straight win. The Tigers, who started 3-0 for the seventh time in eight seasons, shook off a sluggish first half to put away the Bulldogs (1-2) of Conference USA and win its 35th in a row at home. Clemson, up just 13-6 at the break, took advantage of two Parker McNeil interceptions and fourth-down stop on Louisiana Tech's desperate gamble to stay in contention - all leading to touchdowns.

Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. picked off McNeil on the Tech 32 and Shipley took the next snap into the end zone. Tigers cornerback Malcolm Greene intercepted McNeil on the next series after the Bulldogs reached the red zone. DJ Uiagalelei moved Clemson 90 yards in 14 plays, ending on Phil Mafah's 4-yard TD run. Down 27-6, Tech and first-year coach Sonny Cumbie rolled the dice on fourth-and-2 at its 33-yard line. Marquis Crosby lost a yard as he was stuffed by defensive end Justin Mascoll and linebacker Wade Woodaz. Uiagalelei found Beaux Collins for a 32-yard touchdown pass on the next play to put Clemson up by four touchdowns. - Clemson/AP College Football

ESPN TOP 100 PRESEASON 2022 CFB PLAYERS (Selected Aug. 17): No. 13. Bryan Bresee, DT, Clemson, Sophomore. Notable 2021 stats: 13 tackles (6 solo) 1.5 sacks in 4 games. Last year's ranking: 11. We got a glimpse of what Bresee could do as ACC Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2020, when he had 33 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He was on his way to another big year as a sophomore, but he tore his ACL in the fourth game of the season and was out for the year. Still, he earned third-team All-ACC honors in a nod to his dominance over such a short stretch. He is back and healthy and figures to have his best year yet. - ESPN.com

ESPN TOP 100 PRESEASON 2022 CFB PLAYERS (Selected Aug. 17): No. 18. Myles Murphy, DE, Clemson, Junior. Notable 2021 stats: 37 tackles (21 solo), 7 sacks. Last year's ranking: 25. It's possible the biggest obstacle to Murphy's dominance at defensive end is that he has to share the wealth with so many other talented linemen at Clemson. Still, Murphy is the best of the bunch, finishing last season with seven sacks, 14 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and 12 runs stopped at or behind the line of scrimmage. Murphy is a future first-round pick anchoring a line that might have two or three of them. - ESPN.com

ESPN TOP 100 PRESEASON 2022 CFB PLAYERS (Selected Aug. 17): No. 63. Tyler Davis, DT, Clemson, Senior. Notable 2021 stat: 23 tackles (8 solo), 2.5 sacks. Last year's ranking 57. It's been a slog for Davis the past two years. He burst onto the scene as a true freshman in 2019, racking up 6.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss from the interior and looking like a future first-round pick. But he has been limited to just 16 games over the past two seasons, battling injuries routinely, and he managed just 4.5 sacks in the process. He's finally healthy to kick off 2022, and he'll have a chance to finally build off the stellar start to his career. - ESPN.com

ESPN TOP 100 PRESEASON 2022 CFB PLAYERS (Selected Aug. 17): No. 55. Will Shipley, RB, Clemson, Sophomore. Notable 2021 stats: 739 yards, 11 TDs. Last year's ranking: NR. As a true freshman last season, Shipley came in with advance hype as the No. 2 high school running back in the country. Despite missing two games in the middle of the season with a leg injury, Shipley showed his potential - rushing for 738 yards and 11 touchdowns - the second most by a Clemson true freshman behind Travis Etienne's 13 in 2017. His presence in the backfield in 2022 will be a huge key to Clemson's chances to turning around its fortunes on offense. - ESPN.com

ESPN TOP 100 PRESEASON 2022 CFB PLAYERS (Selected Aug. 17): No. 53. Xavier Thomas, DE, Clemson, Senior. Notable 2021 stat: 21 tackles (12 solo), 3.5 sacks. Last year's ranking: 58. A former five-star recruit, Thomas announced his arrival with style, delivering a highlight reel hit on Syracuse QB Eric Dungey to secure a Clemson win in 2018. Stardom appeared imminent, but COVID-19 and other injuries kept Thomas in check for much of the next two years. In 2021, however, he finally delivered on that promise, racking up 14 QB hurries, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He also led the ACC with a 14.1% pressure rate. - ESPN.com

A projected first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, coach Dabo Swinney described the 6-3, 240-pound Simpson this way as fall camp began: "He's a freak, man," Swinney said.   2022 COLLEGE FOOTBALL'S TOP STAR DUOS/TRIOS: Clemson defensive linemen Bryan Bresee (first-team) and Myles Murphy (second-team) are both preseason AP All-Americans. Murphy has 11 sacks, and five forced fumbles in 25 games, starting 16 of them. Bresee only played in four games last season before getting sidelined with a torn ACL. - AP College Football

  08/29/22 - Cade KlubnikSr/2026, Clemson, 6-2, 210 (DS#6 QB) + More +

D.J. Uiagalelei is Clemson's starting quarterback. But that doesn't mean Cade Klubnik will only be holding a clipboard early this season. Clemson offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter reiterated after an Aug. 22 preseason camp practice that Klubnik will have a chance to play. Of course, the opener with ACC foe Georgia Tech is followed by non-conference games with Furman and Louisiana Tech, and should afford the Tigers an opportunity to bring the five-star freshman into the mix. "Cade's gonna play, there's no doubt about it," Streeter said. "How much is hard to tell. We're still a couple weeks away, and that's always based on what we're doing on offense, and how we're moving the ball, and all those things, take a big part of it, too." Clemson's coaches have been careful to buttress comments about Klubnik by reaffirming Uiagalelei is atop the depth chart.

The junior from California threw more interceptions, 10, than touchdowns, nine, during the 2021 season and completed 55.6 percent of his passes. He finished 15th in the ACC in passing efficiency, but there is hope Uiagalelei has refined his mechanics and can produce better results in his second year as starter. Klubnik, though, continues to make progress as the Tigers' No. 2. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has raved about Klubnik's speed as a runner, calling him a "problem" for defenses as a scrambler. While Klubnik has suffered from some "purple jersey syndrome," failing to get the ball out of his hands because he can't be hit by defenders, he's being coached out of that habit. If coaching won't do it, playing in a game certainly will. "Once he gets lit a few times, he'll get rid of it," Swinney said. - Charleston Post Courier
