  11/09/20 - Terrel BernardrSr/2022, Baylor, 6-1, 218 (DS#14 OLB) + More +

Baylor junior linebacker Terrel Bernard, the Big 12's top tackler, will miss the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury. Coach Dave Aranda said Monday that Bernard has a torn labrum and likely a fracture in his shoulder. Bernard and freshman running back Craig Williams were both hurt in Saturday's loss at Iowa State. Williams injured the ACL and MCL in his knee, and will also miss the rest of the season. "Both of those kids are great kids, they're both leaders for us, each in their own way, and they were both playing really good ball," Aranda said. Bernard led the Big 12 with 11 tackles per game, 55 in Baylor's five games. He also had 3 1/2 sacks. Williams had 197 yards rushing and two touchdowns.   11/08/20 - Jalen PitrerSr/2022, Baylor, 5-11, 195 (DS#1 SS) + More +

Coming into Saturday's game, Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy had thrown three interceptions in 193 attempts in six games. Baylor intercepted three of his first 10 passes. Cornerback Kalon Barnes made his second career interception with a leaping catch at Baylor's 11 on Iowa State's first drive. On Iowa State's second drive, cornerback Raleigh Texada returned an interception 56 yards to set up Charlie Brewer's nine-yard touchdown pass to Drake Dabney for a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Linebacker-safety Jalen Pitre returned an interception for a 30-yard touchdown to give the Bears a 21-7 second quarter lead. "I feel it was a lot of film study to fly around to the ball and run to the ball and catching it when he throws it to us," Pitre said. "Those three turnovers in the first half helped a lot. That's our goal." - Waco Tribune Herald

  11/03/20 - Ben SimsrSr/2023, Baylor, 6-5, 250 (DS#17 TE) + More +

Is Ben Sims the second coming of Rob Gronkowski? It's probably not fair to go quite that far yet. But it is safe to say that the sophomore from San Antonio has established a place as Baylor's most productive tight end in years. In the Bears' 33-23 loss to TCU on Saturday at McLane Stadium, Sims led the team with four catches for 40 yards, including a pair of touchdown grabs. He's the first Baylor tight end to reach the end zone twice in the same game since Justin Akers did so against Connecticut in 2008. Sims raised his touchdown total to three on the season, and it was his fourth straight game with a catch. Before this year, a BU tight end hadn't produced a catch in even three straight games since Gus Penning in 2015. "I would like to continue it," Sims said. "It feels good, but at the end of the day it's a team sport." - Waco Tribune Herald

  10/27/20 - Trestan EbnerrSr/2022, Baylor, 5-11, 209 (DS#42 RB) + More +

Senior running backs John Lovett and Trestan Ebner are staying on the Baylor football team after reports surfaced Sunday night that they're opting out of the 2020 season because they're unhappy with their roles in the Bears' offense. During Monday's media availability, Baylor coach Dave Aranda said he discussed the situation with Lovett and Ebner, and they're sticking with the Bears as they prepare for Saturday's 2:30 p.m. game against TCU at McLane Stadium. "They're both with us and we're expecting them to play," Aranda said. "I think we just had to sit down with them and visit, and they both love our team and their teammates, and we're excited about our next opportunity against TCU."

Both Lovett and Ebner are key figures on Baylor's offense, and are among the team leaders. Before the season, their teammates voted them to wear single-digit jerseys with Ebner wearing No. 1 and Lovett No. 7. Ebner got off to a phenomenal start to open the season in Baylor's 47-14 win over Kansas when he was named Big 12 special teams player of the week after becoming the first player in the history of the league to score on a kickoff return, a run and a catch in the same game. Ebner returned kickoffs for 100 and 83 yards and also ran for a one-yard touchdown and caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Charlie Brewer. But during the last two games, Baylor's offense has struggled and the focus on the running attack has diminished. - Waco Tribune Herald

  09/29/20 - Trestan EbnerrSr/2022, Baylor, 5-11, 209 (DS#42 RB) + More +

The Bears played a complete game: Offense, defense and especially the special teams contributed heavily to the blowout. "You could tell with the practices the guys were just ready to play and ready to hit someone," said Baylor running back Trestan Ebner. "I knew we should be ready for the moment. We started a little slow, but I'm thankful for how we finished. Guys picked it up and dominated the game." Ebner seemed to be everywhere as he became the first player in Big 12 history to catch a touchdown pass, run for a touchdown and return a kick for a score in a game.

Lightning struck twice for Ebner as he became the first Baylor player to return two kicks for touchdowns in a game. After taking the second-half kickoff to the house for a 100-yard touchdown, Ebner put his talents on repeat and returned a kickoff for an 83-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. "I would have thought Levi Norwood would have done it first," Ebner said of the former receiver and kick returner from 2011-14 who was honored as a Baylor Legend during the game. "He's just a great player I watched here. I'm just thankful that I was able to put my name in the Baylor record books, and I'm thankful for the chance to play with these great guys." - Waco Tribune Herald
