Toledo Football   Chip Trayanum rushed for a career-high 163 yards and two touchdowns, Junior Vandeross III caught five passes for 122 yards and a score, and Toledo took down Western Kentucky 45-21 on Saturday night. Trayanum, a Kentucky transfer, eclipsed 100 rushing yards for just the second time in his six-year collegiate career and first time since 2020 against UCLA while at Arizona. Kenji Christian, a transfer from North Carolina A&T, added 91 rushing yards on 15 carries. Toledo had 307 yards on the ground.

The Rockets (1-1) scored on their first drive after a WKU fumble set them up at the opposing 34-yard line. Emmanuel McNeil-Warren then reeled in a 37-yard pick-six to extend Toledo's lead to 14-0 just over three minutes into the game. After a WKU touchdown pass made it 14-7, the Rockets scored 31 consecutive points and Western Kentucky did not score again until early in the fourth quarter. Vanderross caught a 71-yard touchdown pass just before halftime, and Trayanum took the first snap of the second half 75 yards for a score. The Hilltoppers (2-1) were led by Maverick McIvor's 235 passing yards and two scores, and Moussa Barry's three receptions for 110 yards. - Toledo/AP College Football

Norfolk State Football   Evan Helfrich kicked a 29-yard field goal in overtime to give former NFL quarterback Michael Vick his first collegiate head coaching victory with Norfolk State, 34-31 over Virginia State on Saturday night. Vick, who played in the NFL for 13 seasons after his college career at Virginia Tech, took over the Spartans program last December.

He was nearly denied his first win after the Spartans (1-1) saw Division-II Virginia State take a 31-24 lead with 2:14 to go with a touchdown and then watched a 46-yard field-goal attempt by the Trojans hit the cross bar after the Spartans had tied the game with 53 seconds left on Jaylen Laudermilk's 33-yard run. The Trojans turned the ball over on downs in overtime, opening the door for the Spartans, who scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to rally from a 23-7 deficit. Otto Kuhns threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns for Norfolk State. Rahsaan Matthews Jr. passed for 299 yards and two scores for Virginia State (1-1) with Marquis Smith finishing with 105 yards receiving and Ajenavi Byrd 101. - AP College Football

North Carolina Football   Gio Lopez threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Chris Culliver on the first possession, Davion Gause ran for a 12-yard score and Bill Belichick got his first win as a college head coach as North Carolina defeated Charlotte 20-3 on a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon. Lopez completed 17 of 25 passes for 155 yards for the Tar Heels (1-1). North Carolina's defense held Charlotte (0-2) to 271 yards and forced two turnovers. Belichick, who won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and is the second-winningest head coach in NFL history, downplayed the significance of his first win at this level after the game.

"It's hard to win," Belichick said. "You gotta do a lot of things right. You gotta do it better than your opponent, so we were fortunate to do that. So it's, it's good to be part of it. I tried to do what I could to help them, but look, I didn't make any blocks, tackles, catches, runs or anything else out there." North Carolina lured Belichick to Chapel Hill with a five-year, $50 million million contract to boost its athletic profile, but his debut in front of a national audience on Monday night was a disaster as the Tar Heels got blown out 48-14 at home by TCU. It was the most points ever allowed by a UNC team in a season opener. It raised some early questions about whether the 73-year-old Belichick was capable of winning at this level, but his Tar Heels responded with a solid overall performance. - AP College Football

Miami Football   Carson Beck already has found his way into the Miami record book. Beck completed his first 15 passes to break a Miami record, finishing 22 of 24 for 264 yards with two touchdowns as the fifth-ranked Hurricanes eased past Bethune-Cookman 45-3 on Saturday night. Beck's 15 consecutive completions broke a Miami single-game mark that stood for nearly four decades; Vinny Testaverde completed 14 in a row against Oklahoma in 1986. "It's super cool, obviously, to perform at a high level and do things like that," Beck said. CJ Daniels caught both of Beck's touchdown passes, from 40 and 5 yards out.

Beck has gone 185 consecutive passes without an interception, dating to last season when he was with Georgia. "He keeps getting better and better," Miami coach Mario Cristobal said. "I mean, every practice, every week, there's this continued growth and development, and really you see an appetite for more. He just wants to get better. He wants Miami to get to better. He wants to Miami to win. And he's all about team." Mark Fletcher Jr. had two touchdown runs for the Hurricanes (2-0), who reached the end zone on their first five drives and began substituting liberally in the third quarter. Marty Brown and Girard Pringle also had scoring runs for Miami. Timmy McClain completed 13 of 15 passes for 86 yards for Bethune-Cookman (0-2).   Utah Football   Devon Dampier matched his career best with three touchdown passes to lead No. 25 Utah to a 63-9 win over Cal Poly of the Football Championship Subdivision on Saturday. Dampier connected with Wayshawn Parker for a 52-yard touchdown to cap Utah's first drive. He then found Ryan Davis for a 4-yard TD in the second quarter. Dampier, who finished 17 of 23 for 192 yards, added an 11-yard scoring strike to Dallen Bentley in the third quarter before taking a seat. "It was awesome. Just being in the stadium, it was as electric as everyone had talked about it," Dampier, a New Mexico transfer, said about his first game at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

NaQuari Rogers added two 1-yard TD runs in the last 1:44 of the second quarter for a 35-6 lead at halftime. "It brings me joy, seeing everybody happy. Like, I know I scored, but it was like, the whole team scored," said Parker, who also had a 43-yard TD run. The Mustangs (1-1) got two field goals from Noah Serna and one from Gianluca Dimauro. Utah (2-0) moved to 17-1 in its last 18 home openers under coach Kyle Whittingham as plenty of reserves got playing time, including quarterback Byrd Ficklin, who rushed for two TDs. "Controlled the game, really, from start to finish and a lot of guys made good contributions," Whittingham said. - Utah/AP College Football

Oregon Football   Oregon coach Dan Lanning suggested that comments Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy made this week about the financial disparities between the two teams contributed to the Ducks' 69-3 rout of the Cowboys on Saturday. "I told our team right before the game that, it never requires extra motivation for an opportunity to go out and kick ass, but it never hurts when somebody pours gasoline on the fire," Lanning said. Earlier in the week, Gundy talked about Oregon's apparent NIL resources, saying the Cowboys spent "around $7 million" on their team over three years while claiming the Ducks had spent close to $40 million last year alone - while admitting that he might be off a few million. "Oregon is paying a lot, a lot of money for their team," he said. "From a nonconference standpoint, there's coaches saying they should play teams that are spending the same amount of money." Lanning responded in his Monday news conference.

"Ultimately, how blessed are we to be in a place that's invested in winning? If you want to be a Top 10 team in college football, you better be invested in winning. And we spend to win. Some people save to have an excuse for why they don't, right?" Lanning said. For his part, Gundy said Saturday after the most-lopsided loss of his Oklahoma State career he meant no offense. "There's nothing wrong with saying that teams you're playing are good teams," Gundy said. "When I made that comment, I was complimenting Oregon for what they've done. The second thing is, which I said later in the week, we've made commitments also, all right." - AP College Football
