The Hawaii Bowl once again plans to hold a game for the first time since 2019. The college football bowl game is planning to hold its annual contest on Christmas Eve at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hawaii Bowl hasn't been held since 2019, back when the University of Hawaii defeated BYU 38-34. The 2019 edition of the Hawaii Bowl turned out to be the final UH game for former quarterback Cole McDonald and former head coach Nick Rolovich.

Hawaii withdrew from the 2021 Hawaii Bowl due to COVID-19 cases plaguing the team internally. The Rainbow Warriors were due to play Memphis. The 2022 Hawaii Bowl will feature a team from the Mountain West Conference against a team from Conference USA. If Hawaii wins at least seven regular season games and doesn't win the Mountain West championship game, they will be the Mountain West's representative in the 2022 Hawaii Bowl. - Khon2.com

K.J. Wallace showed he wasn't afraid of a challenge in choosing to sign with Notre Dame as a four-star prospect at the Lovett School. He demonstrated his willingness to take on hard work in the way he left, too. Seeking more playing time after three seasons with the Fighting Irish, Wallace wanted to go into the transfer portal, but would do so only if he could leave South Bend, Ind., with his degree. But his path to his political-science degree in three years required that he take 20 credits in the spring and another nine this summer.

That was on top of a summer-school class he'll take at his new school - Georgia Tech. Wallace will graduate this summer and be eligible to play for the Yellow Jackets this fall as a grad transfer. "It was a very busy springtime for me," Wallace said in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Wallace joins a secondary crowded with aspirants seeking the playing time vacated by safeties Juanyeh Thomas, Tariq Carpenter and Wesley Walker and cornerbacks Tre Swilling and Tobias Oliver. There are no fewer than 17 scholarship players in the secondary. Wallace, who made five tackles in 16 games over his three seasons at Notre Dame, said he has no issue with competition. In his recruitment, "definitely, no one made any promises to me," Wallace said. "If anything, there's more of a 'you've got to earn it' (feeling). You've got to do what you're capable of doing, and that's really all I was asking for throughout this entire process, is just a real solid opportunity." - Atlanta Journal Constitution

Georgia Tech continued to add to the roster from the transfer portal Sunday as former Notre Dame defensive back KJ Wallace announced his commitment to the Yellow Jackets. Wallace, from the Lovett School, played in 10 games for the Fighting Irish this past season and was credited with one tackle. He had a limited role on defense but was more involved on special teams. Wallace, 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds, played three seasons for Notre Dame, appearing in a total of 16 games. He was listed as a safety on the Fighting Irish roster. Wallace went into the transfer portal in January, announcing his plans to graduate from Notre Dame over the summer. It might no longer be the thin blue line many UCLA fans feared. The verbal commitment of Jaylan Jeffers, an offensive tackle from Oregon who tweeted Thursday about his intra-Pac-12 transfer, could fortify what was widely viewed as the Bruins' primary weakness after losing Sean Rhyan and Alec Anderson to the NFL draft. Jeffers is the second offensive tackle to transfer to UCLA in hopes of immediate playing time, joining Raiqwon O'Neal, an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection last season at Rutgers.

Unlike O'Neal, the 6-foot-5, 291-pound Jeffers, a redshirt freshman, has not played much in college, appearing in only one game with the Ducks. A onetime three-star prospect from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro High, Jeffers did not play in 2020 before making his college debut last season. UCLA defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia already knew he was going to the Chargers before they picked him in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft Saturday. The Chargers selected the 6-foot-3, 324-pound Ogbonnia with the 160th overall pick. The four-year UCLA standout has the size and strength to develop into a stout run stopper, something the Chargers need more of after a disappointing season against the run.

Ogbonnia, who played in 43 games with the Bruins, said he enjoyed the vibe from Chargers' coaches after their productive meeting. "I always knew I was going to the Chargers ever since I visited them," Ogbonnia said. "I had a feeling I was going there. I kinda manifested it in a way where I didn't almost jinx myself, but it ended up happening and I'm forever grateful for it. "The vibe I got, something just told me, ‘This is the place I can be most successful and the place I needed to be.' Just being under that staff, being under that defense, somewhere where I can really excel. It kinda went both ways. I think they saw it out of me and I saw it out of them. During UCLA's spring showcase last Saturday, coach Chip Kelly put on the headset live on the Pac-12 Network and made it pretty clear: Don't be surprised if Jake Bobo is atop his wide receiver depth chart come fall. Bobo, who transferred to UCLA after four years at Duke, has coaches raving during spring practice and is well on pace to be one of Dorian Thompson-Robinson's targets on the outside. "Jake has been outstanding," Kelly said. "He can make contested catches. He's a big, strong, physical target. He's smart, he's intelligent. I know Dorian and all our quarterbacks are really happy that they can look out wide and see No. 9 there." Bobo had a career year last season at Duke with 74 receptions for 794 yards, which ranked ninth in the ACC. UCLA hopes Bobo can serve as a reliable third down option, a safety valve of sorts.

And Bobo believes that understanding what he's good at has earned him instant credibility amongst teammates and coaches. He knows that he won't blow by defenders. But at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, what Bobo lacks in speed, he makes up for in size and toughness. Wide receivers coach Jerry Neuheisel Jr. said that Bobo and Mokiao-Atimalala are not only talented, but also "great people." "To be able to get Jake after his career at Duke, to be honest, I thought we got really lucky," Neuheisel Jr. said. "We got a steal on that one. "You talk about some of these quarterback-receiver duos - whether that's professionally or in college sports - there's a relationship off the field there and that comes with time," Bobo said.
