DEC 14 SUN BELT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Carlton Martial, Troy, (#2, Jr, LB - Mobile, Ala.),...Carlton Martial recorded 21 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks and an interception against Coastal Carolina. His interception set up Troy's go-ahead touchdown in the final minutes of the game. It was his fourth career interception and his 10th career game with a forced turnover. Martial's 21 tackles were a career high and his 13th career game with double-digit tackles, and his fifth this season. Martial has averaged 12.7 tackles per game over a seven-game stretch.

  12/05/20 - Gunnar WatsonrSr/2024, Troy, 6-2, 200 (DS#38 QB) + More +

Gunnar Watson threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns while wearing thick pads to protect fractured ribs and Troy blanked South Alabama 29-0 on Saturday to win the "Battle of the Belt" for an unprecedented third straight time. Watson threw all three touchdowns in the second quarter - finding Khalil McClain from 15, Kaylon Geiger from 15 and Tray Eafford from 21. Evan Legassey added a 44-yard field goal eight seconds before the half to end the scoring for Troy (5-5, 3-3 Sun Belt Conference).

Neither team had won three straight "Battles for the Belt" since the challenge series began nine years ago. Troy's game-opening drive ended with an interception when Tez Johnson's pass on a reverse was picked off by Dewayne Betts. The Trojan defense forced a three-and-out and Legassey put points on the board with a 22-yard field goal. South Alabama (4-7, 3-5) was held to 239 yards of offense, 17 first downs and never got into the red zone. Desmond Trotter passed for 144 yards and the Jaguars gained just 57 on the ground. Trotter threw an interception and lost a fumble after being sacked. Each led to a Troy touchdown. - Troy/AP College Football

  12/04/20 - Jarret DoegerSr/2023, Troy, 6-1, 199 (DS#39 QB) + More +

Quarterback Garret Doege is good, it's just that he's been overshadowed by Sam Ehlinger, Purdy and Spencer Rattler. The junior has 1,991 passing yards against Big 12 opponents, second to Rattler's 2,029 yards. He's thrown the fewest interceptions (three) in conference games. He's hooked up with Wright Winston on a 70-yard passing play, and if the Cyclones have a defensive flaw, it's over-the-top passes in the middle of the field. - Des Moines Register

  11/07/20 - Gerald GreenrSr/2025, Troy, 5-10, 192 (DS#151 RB) + More +

Gerald Green ran for 109 yards and a touchdown and Georgia Southern's late interception preserved a 20-13 win over Troy on Saturday. After Alex Raynor missed a 34-yard field goal attempt and a chance to put Georgia Southern (5-2, 3-2 Sun Belt Conference) up 10 with 2:40 left, Troy (4-3, 2-2) marched 64 yards to the Eagles' 16-yard line. There, on third-and-10, Derrick Canteen intercepted Jacob Free to seal the win. Canteen finished with a pair of picks on the day. Trailing 13-6, Green's 69-yard touchdown run tied the game with 7:37 left to play in the third quarter. Following Troy's three-and-out, Shai Werts led an 8-play, 85-yard drive that ended with his 5-yard touchdown run with 2:18 left in the third for the go-ahead score. The score was set up after NaJee Thompson pulled in a one-handed, 35-yard pass with a defender draped on him at the Troy 5-yard line. Werts completed 12-of-13 passes for 85 yards. Dell Pettus' 44-yard interception return of Werts gave Troy an early 7-3 lead and marked the Trojans' lone touchdown. - AP College Football
