OCT 21 LONE STAR DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jai Edwards, Tarleton State, SR, Kinesiology and Business, S, Atascocita, Texas, Atascocita HS,...Edwards led the No. 4-ranked Texans on defense with 11 tackles in a 35-21 win over No. 20 Texas A&M-Commerce in a battle of LSC unbeatens. Of the 11 tackles by Edwards, seven were solo tackles in the secondary. The senior also posted a tackle for loss, but his biggest play of the game also clinched the victory. Edwards and the Texans held A&M-Commerce to 15 points below their season average and limited the rushing offense to just 64 yards for the game. - Lone Star Conference Football

Tarleton State (Texas) broke out to a 14-0 lead over then-No. 20 Texas A&M-Commerce in the first quarter, and never looked back, winning 35-21 to take sole possession of first place in the Lone Star Conference. The Texans are 7-0 and remain No. 4 in this week's AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Despite the loss, Texas A&M-Commerce drops just three spots to No. 23. The rest of the Top 5 remained unchanged again as Valdosta State (Ga.), Ferris State (Mich.), Minnesota State and Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) registered victories on Saturday to move their records to 7-0. There is only one Top 25 matchup again this coming weekend and it involves one of the newcomers to the poll. No. 25 Virginia Union, who was last ranked in the preseason poll of 2008, travels to No. 15 Bowie State (Md.) to battle for the top spot in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Northern Division. The other newcomer is No. 24 Henderson State (Ark.). The Reddies were last ranked on September 4, 2017 and sit 6-1 on the season after a 48-17 victory over East Central (Okla.). - American Football Coaches Association
