Tarleton Football will enter the national playoffs as the No. 2 seed and host Lone Star Conference rival Texas A&M-Commerce. The Texans will face the Lions on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. at the Lonn Reisman Athletic Center at Memorial Stadium. The Texans were ranked No. 1 in all three NCAA Regional Rankings prior to the selection show but Minnesota State edged out Tarleton for the No. 1 seed in Super Region 4 to claim the first-round bye. Colorado School of Mines will be the No. 3 seed and take on Sioux Falls. No. 4 Colorado State-Pueblo will host Augustana to round out the NCAA Super Regional 4 playoff teams.

Tarleton, the No. 3-ranked team in the AFCA poll, just completed its second straight undefeated regular season, going 11-0 to capture back-to-back Lone Star Conference championships. This is Tarleton's fifth trip to the NCAA Playoffs and fourth under head coach Todd Whitten. Texas A&M-Commerce is 8-2 on the season and ranked No. 23 in the latest AFCA poll. Tarleton defeated A&M-Commerce 35-21 back on Oct. 19 in Stephenville. - Tarleton Football

Tarleton State (Texas) broke out to a 14-0 lead over then-No. 20 Texas A&M-Commerce in the first quarter, and never looked back, winning 35-21 to take sole possession of first place in the Lone Star Conference. The Texans are 7-0 and remain No. 4 in this week's AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Despite the loss, Texas A&M-Commerce drops just three spots to No. 23. The rest of the Top 5 remained unchanged again as Valdosta State (Ga.), Ferris State (Mich.), Minnesota State and Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) registered victories on Saturday to move their records to 7-0. There is only one Top 25 matchup again this coming weekend and it involves one of the newcomers to the poll. No. 25 Virginia Union, who was last ranked in the preseason poll of 2008, travels to No. 15 Bowie State (Md.) to battle for the top spot in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Northern Division. The other newcomer is No. 24 Henderson State (Ark.). The Reddies were last ranked on September 4, 2017 and sit 6-1 on the season after a 48-17 victory over East Central (Okla.). - American Football Coaches Association
