  10/06/19 - Cameron ScarlettrSr/2020, Stanford, 6-0, 219 (DS#49 RB) + More +

Cameron Scarlett rushed for a career-high 157 yards and a touchdown, quarterback Davis Mills had another impressive game in place of injured starter K.J. Costello before apparently getting hurt himself, and Stanford pulled off its biggest win of the season, stunning No. 15 Washington 23-13 on Saturday night. The Cardinal (3-3, 2-2 Pac-12) extended their home winning streak to six games, dating to 2007, against the Huskies with a plodding, methodical offense that kept Washington quarterback Jacob Eason on the sidelines for long chunks of the game. Stanford dominated Washington (4-2, 1-2 Pac-12) in nearly every offensive category and held an 18-minute edge in time of possession.

Jet Toner added three field goals to help the Cardinal, who have won back-to-back games following a three-game losing streak. Mills was crisp until coming out of the game for an unknown reason in the middle of a scoring drive in the fourth quarter. Mills was 21-of-30 passing for 293 yards and a touchdown, but spent the final 9 minutes on the sidelines with what appeared to be a bag of ice wrapped around his left calf. Jack West ran the offense down the stretch. Stanford got a big lift from its defense, which harassed Eason into an interception and forced a punt on Washington's first two drives in the fourth quarter. Eason was 15 of 35 for 181 yards, one touchdown and one interception. - Stanford/AP College Football

  09/29/19 - Jet TonerrSr/2021, Stanford, 6-3, 204 (DS#8 K) + More +

There was no reason for any doubt when Jet Toner stepped up to kick the game-winning field goal for Stanford Saturday night. "He's got that cool Hawaiian breeze going through his veins," Cardinal coach Davis Shaw said about the senior from Honolulu. Toner's 39-yard field goal came with just a second left on the clock, and Stanford overcame Oregon State's late rally for a 31-28 victory that snapped a three-game losing streak. The Beavers tied the game at 28 on Artavis Pierce's 1-yard touchdown run with 1:55 left in the game. But Connor Wedington returned the kickoff 43 yards and Davis Mills passed for a first down and ran for another on a final drive that ended with Toner's field goal.

Mills, starting in place of injured quarterback K.J. Costello, threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns for the Cardinal (2-3, 1-2 Pac-12), who extended their winning streak over the Beavers to 10 games. Costello sat out of the game after injuring his thumb in Stanford's loss to No. 13 Oregon last Saturday. "It was huge," Shaw said about the win. "First and foremost because it was a conference win. Tonight was the great team win that you're looking for." The game, which was delayed for 15 minutes because of lightning in the area, was the Pac-12 opener for the Beavers (1-3, 0-1). Oregon State had a bye last weekend after a 45-7 victory over lower-tier Cal Poly two weeks ago. - Stanford/AP College Football

  09/27/19 - Isaiah SandersrSr/2022, Stanford, 6-1, 226 (DS#999 QB) + More +

DJ Hammond III, making an unexpected entry after beginning the game on the sideline to rest a sore ankle, threw a 64-yard touchdown pass and finished or led four other scoring drives as Air Force beat San Jose State 41-24 on Friday night. Isaiah Sanders started in place of Hammond, who sprained his ankle in last Friday's loss at Boise State and missed practice time in the days before the San Jose State game. Sanders, however, had to leave during the Falcons' first drive after suffering a lower leg injury at the end of a run.

Christian Mallard added touchdown runs of 7 and 3 yards, Taven Birdow had scoring runs of 1 and 3 yards, and Timothy Jackson added a 7-yard touchdown run for Air Force (3-1, 1-1 Mountain West), which improved to 4-1 in its series with San Jose State (2-2, 0-1). Birdow led the rushing attack with 124 yards on 25 carries and Geraud Sanders caught the long scoring pass from Hammond. The Spartans scored on their opening possession, ending the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run by DeJon Packer. But the Spartans were soon overtaken by the Falcons, whose defense denied San Jose State with four fourth-down stops in the game, including one from Air Force's 1-yard line. - AP College Football

Quarterback K.J. Costello will be back on the field for Stanford on Saturday but the Cardinal will be missing another offensive standout. Coach David Shaw announced Costello's return on Tuesday at the same time that he said tackle Walker Little will be undergoing season-ending surgery on his left knee. "We hope to get him full go for next season," Shaw said. Costello and Little, who was on the preseason Outland Trophy watch list, were injured in the Cardinal's Aug. 31 season-opening win over Northwestern and missed Saturday's loss at No. 24 Southern California. The Cardinal play at No. 17 Central Florida on Saturday. - AP College Football
