Israel Mukuamu returned the first of his three interceptions 53 yards for a touchdown and South Carolina took advantage of Jake Fromm's four turnovers to beat No. 3 Georgia 17-10 in double overtime on Saturday. Parker White's 23-yard field goal in the second overtime proved to be enough when Georgia's Rodrigo Blankenship was wide left on his attempt from 42 yards. Blankenship's second miss of the game sent South Carolina players charging onto the field to celebrate the upset. White missed a 33-yard attempt in the first overtime. "I had confidence that I was going to get to go out there and have a chance to win the game for us in the next overtime," he said.

Georgia (5-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) suffered a big hit to its national championship hopes. The Bulldogs, favored by 24½ points, could not overcome three interceptions and a lost fumble by Fromm, the senior quarterback known for avoiding mistakes. Fromm did not throw an interception in the Bulldogs' first five games. "You can't beat anybody when you have a 4-0 turnover margin," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. "We didn't force any on defense. We didn't cause any problems on defense and we didn't take care of the ball." - South Carolina/AP College Football

  09/29/19 - Rico DowdleSr/2020, South Carolina, 5-11, 213 (DS#39 RB) + More +

Rico Dowdle and Tavien Feaster like sharing the football, especially when it leads to South Carolina victories like this. Dowdle and Feaster, the Gamecocks' two senior tailbacks, both ran for more than 100 yards and accounted for three touchdowns as South Carolina (2-3, 1-2 Southeastern Conference) snapped a five-game series losing streak to Kentucky with a 24-7 victory Saturday night. Dowdle had 102 yards and a 30-yard TD while Feaster, the Clemson graduate transfer, had 107 yards and scoring runs of 2 and 19 yards in a dominant win over the Wildcats (2-3, 0-3). Many wondered how Dowdle and Feaster, both dynamic runners, would manage in the same backfield. They gave an emphatic answer against Kentucky. "He pushes me to be better. I push him to be better," Dowdle said. "I think it's working pretty well."

The Gamecocks also ended a run of six consecutive losses to Power Five opponents. And they did it just the way coach Will Muschamp wanted with an effective running attack. Dowdle surpassed the century mark for the second time in three games. But Dowdle appeared to injure his left leg less than two minutes into the fourth quarter and needed support to make the sidelines as the crowd chanted "Rico, Rico." - South Carolina/AP College Football

  09/06/19 - Nick MuserSr/2022, South Carolina, 6-5, 258 (DS#20 TE) + More +

South Carolina transfer tight end Nick Muse's eligibility waiver was granted by the NCAA on Friday, clearing him to play this season for the Gamecocks. Muse's father Tweeted out the news on social media and the school confirmed Muse's status. Muse is a 6-foot-3, 232-pound junior who played the past two seasons at William & Mary. He picked the Gamecocks over LSU and other schools when he decided to leave the Tribe.

Muse is the brother of Clemson starting safety Tanner Muse. The Gamecocks were hoping the NCAA would approve Muse playing right away because it has lost a pair of experienced tight ends in the past month. Expected starter Kiel Pollard gave up football when a cyst was discovered on his spine. Backup Evan Hinson left the program to play basketball at another school. - AP College Football

University of South Carolina senior tight end Kiel Pollard will retire from playing football, it was announced today.

"Kiel suffered a small fracture in his neck last week, which was to have sidelined him for 4-6 weeks," said head coach Will Muschamp. "However, during an MRI, the doctors discovered a cyst on his spinal cord, which appears to have been there since he was a child. The severity of the situation and the possible long-term consequences from that medical condition forced him to give up his playing career. - South Carolina Athletics

What makes Hutcherson so freakish, besides an appetite that only adds to his power, never to his belly? The weight totals vary, but all agree - the guy can jerk some iron. "He did the bench press at 225, and he did it like 41 times," quarterback Dakereon Joyner said before checking himself. "I don't want to say a wrong number, I don't want to exaggerate … but that may be right, though." (It was actually 38).

"He's pumping it like it's 135," marveled defensive end Brad Johnson. "I done seen him with so many plates on that bar he doesn't have any more room on it." That's on the squat rack, where Hutcherson stacks 45-pound discs on the bar like some folks eat popcorn. Johnson estimates he's seen Hutcherson put seven on each side, and the bar itself weighs 45 pounds. - Charleston Post and Courier

  08/03/19 - Tavien FeasterSr/2020, South Carolina, 5-11, 221 (DS#31 RB) + More +

Tigers coach Dabo Swinney spoke Friday about Feaster, who announced earlier in the week he would transfer from the Tigers to in-state rival South Carolina. "I wish him all the best in all [games] but one of them, for sure," Swinney said as Clemson opened preseason practice.

"It's no different whether he's going to your rival or whether he's going to someone else on your schedule. That's kind of where where we are with college football now. You're going to see that more and more. "We certainly wish him well. He was a model student-athlete for us. He's a great player." - The State

Tennessee's Deangelo Gibbs will redshirt this season following his transfer from Georgia, coach Jeremy Pruitt said Thursday. Gibbs had sought an NCAA waiver that would allow him to play immediately, but Pruitt said he expected this outcome. "Deangelo knew that when he came here, and he came here, because he believed in the coaching staff and his future development," Pruitt said. - Knoxville News Sentinel

  07/29/19 - Tavien FeasterSr/2020, South Carolina, 5-11, 221 (DS#31 RB) + More +

Running back Tavien Feaster is switching sides in the state's biggest rivalry, leaving Clemson to join South Carolina for his final college season. Feaster posted a picture of himself on Instagram in a Gamecocks jersey, sitting in front a locker with his name on it. Feaster is a 5-foot-11, 220-pound senior who was part of Clemson's national championship teams in 2016 and last year. Feaster rushed for 1,330 yards and 15 touchdowns in three seasons with the Tigers.

Feaster was a highly sought recruit out of high school in Spartanburg who also had offers from schools including Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame and the Gamecocks before signing with the Tigers. Feaster never became Clemson's featured back, playing behind William Gallman in 2016 and Travis Etienne the past two years. At South Carolina, Feaster will have to compete with senior running backs Rico Dowdle and A.J. Turner. - AP College Football

A major get for South Carolina. Feaster's LOC (Level of Competition) Film grades should actually increase with this move as the SEC is by far number one in matchup film. Once we trade for some season road grades & info back, that is an expected but teams view low mileage runningbacks differently, which will now change. We are starting him out where he was expected to play up to, even with the 8-14 junior RB's expected to declare early, most thinking they are 2-3rd rounders and fall to the 6-7th round due to the numbers, supply/demand game.
