  05/25/20 - Brendon WhiteSr/2021, Rutgers, 6-1, 215 (DS#16 SS) + More +

The most important returning player on defense is middle linebacker Tyshon Fogg. He was the Scarlet Knights' best defender a season ago, he runs the unit on the field and he is a key team leader. The most important player on defense, though, may be Ohio State transfer safety Brendon White. Schiano will use him, and he may emerge as Rutgers' best defensive playmaker if all goes well. - NJ Advance Media

  05/18/20 - Noah VedralrSr/2024, Rutgers, 6-1, 200 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Noah Vedral is the seventh quarterback to join Rutgers after previously playing at another FBS school dating back to the end of the 2014 season and Gary Nova's career with the Scarlet Knights. The first six have had limited success, if any. But Vedral - who arrives from Nebraska with two years of eligibility remaining - could break that trend. To be clear: Vedral is not a sure-thing starter. He will need to win the job away from Artur Sitkowski, and that should be a real training camp battle whenever it happens. But after watching tape from three of Vedral's games with the Cornhuskers last season - a win over Nebraska where he came off the bench in the fourth quarter and led the game-winning drive, plus starts in losses to Minnesota and Indiana (he was injured in the second half of the latter game) - it's obvious Rutgers will have its best starter in years to start Schiano's second tenure, whether it is Sitkowski building on last season's progress or Vedral winning the job himself.

Here are some takeaways from the film review: Can he throw? The first thing you have to figure out with any quarterback. The answer: Vedral doesn't have as big an arm as Sitkowski, but he is a much better thrower than Johnny Langan (better runner, too, but we'll get to that) and will be a Big Ten-caliber passer. Nebraska did not try to take many (any?) deep shots downfield in the games that were reviewed, but Vedral did make several downfield throws for big gains. He demonstrated ability to read defenses, hang tough in the pocket and find an open man. He also showed nice touch on the ball. - Star Ledger

  05/13/20 - Noah VedralrSr/2024, Rutgers, 6-1, 200 (DS#999 QB) + More +

The plan all along for Noah Vedral was to try to use spring football to try to win the Nebraska starting quarterback job. That went awry, though, when the coronavirus pandemic halted operations after just two practices. What didn't stop was Vedral's eligibility clock. He knew if he was going to make a transfer move, it had to be this spring, given that he was wrapping up his degree from UNL and has two years of immediate eligibility remaining. That all set in motion a wild couple of weeks that finally settled out Wednesday morning when Vedral announced his commitment to Rutgers, meaning he'll stay in the Big Ten and perhaps even play against Nebraska this fall in New Jersey.

"COVID-19 is rightfully closing things down but it did throw a wrench in my plan," Vedral told the Journal Star on Wednesday morning. "I wanted to compete for the job here, but I also knew that … if it came to pass, that this spring would be the time I need to leave. "It was not an easy decision. I have a lot of love for Nebraska, obviously, and for coach (Scott) Frost and his staff. They've done a lot for me. But it also just came time that I knew I was ready to be the guy somewhere." Nebraska junior quarterback Noah Vedral entered the NCAA's transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon. He decided to leave with the full support of Frost, who on Tuesday night during a radio appearance said, "I can't say enough good things about Noah Vedral...He's like a son to me and I want what's best for him." - Lincoln Journal Star

Hayek has two years of eligibility remaining. He played in 10 games on special teams last season, and played in eight contests in 2018. Hayek, a wide receiver and cornerback in high school, helped lead Wayne Hills to a state championship his senior year, hauling in 29 passes for 500 yards and nine touchdowns. He had 31 tackles and an interception on defense. - Asbury Park Press

  04/28/20 - Noah VedralrSr/2024, Rutgers, 6-1, 200 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Nebraska quarterback Noah Vedral has entered the transfer portal and plans to play his final two seasons at another school, an athletic department spokesman confirmed Tuesday. Vedral has been backup to Adrian Martinez for two years and will be a junior in the fall. He transferred to Nebraska from Central Florida after Scott Frost was hired away from UCF in December 2017. With Martinez out because of injury, Vedral started against Minnesota and Indiana last season. The native of Wahoo, Nebraska, appeared in four other games and finished 34-of-52 passing for 418 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He rushed for 106 yards and three TDs. - AP College Football

Lineman Micah Clark is no longer a member of the Rutgers football program, according to several individuals with knowledge of his status. Clark, who was a heralded recruit out of St. John Vianney High in Holmdel, did not appear in any games during the 2019 season. Scarlet Nation and The Knight Report first reported his departure. Rutgers has yet to release a team roster for the 2020 season, but Clark is listed in the university's online directory as a student. Clark was a four-star recruit and the No. 2-ranked player in New Jersey for the 2017 signing cycle. - Star Ledger

  04/03/20 - Tyshon FoggrSr/2022, Rutgers, 6-1, 228 (DS#36 ILB) + More +

Rutgers will not permit any in-person classes or events until at least mid-August due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the university has not yet ruled out opening campus for the football team and other fall sports programs to hold preseason practices. The moratorium does mean teams will not be able to return for summer workouts prior to the start of the preseason. It will also prevent programs from holding summer camps and recruiting evaluation events. "There will be no in-person classes, programs, camps, conferences or other activities at Rutgers University through at least August 14," according to a letter from senior vice president of academic affairs Barbara Lee. "Information related to fall orientations and intercollegiate preseason athletic activity will be forthcoming." Football training camp typically opens in late July or early August. - Star Ledger
