2020 PRESEASON LOU GROZA COLLEGIATE PLACE-KICKER AWARD WATCH LIST: Gabe Brkic, Oklahoma,...A 2019 Groza semifinalist, there is an argument that no kicker has ever had a better season in FBS history than Brkic's freshman campaign. Not only was he the only kicker in the country to make every attempt – both FGs and XPs – on the year, his combined total of 69 perfect attempts is the most in FBS history by a kicker who didn't miss. - Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award

2020 PRESEASON RAY GUY AWARD WATCH LIST: Michael Turk, Arizona State,...Turk earned All-Pac-12 first-team honors and was a semifinalist for the 2019 Ray Guy Award after finishing first in the Pac-12 and 11th in the nation in punting (46.0) last season. Turk's high and booming kicks enabled ASU's punt coverage unit to finish 12th in the nation in net punting (41.6).

Turk was honored as the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week and the Ray Guy Punter of the Week following a week one performance in which he set the NCAA, Pac-12 and ASU record for highest average yards per punt in a game with a minimum of five attempts (63.0 yards per punt) in ASU's season-opening 30-7 win over Kent State. Twenty-one of Turk's 59 punts (35.6 percent) traveled over 50 yards in 2019, six more than any other player in the Pac-12. He pinned 32 of those 59 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line (54.2 percent), a total that was second in the nation. - Arizona State Football

  06/13/20 - Dimitri FlowersSr/2018, Oklahoma, 6-2, 248 (DS#2 FB) + More +

Dimitri Flowers views the anti-racism movement taking place as impressive and encouraging, though his tone quiets when asked about it. There's an understanding that people died before action was spurred. He is still optimistic about what he sees now. "Instead of seeing it all over social media - this happened, that happened - things have finally started to develop," he said. But the former Oklahoma fullback also has watched the past few weeks unfold through a different lens. He had been set on going to law school after one season in the XFL with Bob Stoops and the Dallas Renegades. The pandemic just accelerated his timeline.

When the XFL shut down, Flowers studied for the LSAT, passed it and was accepted to OU's law school - all while widespread discussion took place about injustices against black people in America. "I think I'm entering at a perfect time to come out, really make a difference and advocate," Flowers said. "At the end of the day, I really want to fight that good vs. evil fight. That's what I wholeheartedly believe it comes down to in a lot of issues in the world, it's good vs. evil. And I want to advocate for good, I want to do good, I want to be good and I want to help beat evil." - Norman Transcript

Oklahoma center Creed Humphrey was named to the Walter Camp preseason All-America first team, which was released Thursday. The redshirt junior is OU's most seasoned offensive lineman, and spurned this year's NFL Draft to return for another season. He has started 26 of 28 career games, which includes all 14 in 2019-20. He is expected to be on a number of preseason lists as college football approaches. Humphrey was a Rimington Trophy (nation's best center) finalist last year and first-team All-Big 12 selection. League coaches and reporters named him Big 12 Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year after he recorded 93 knockdowns and no sacks in 799 snaps. - Norman Transcript

  06/04/20 - Michael TurkrSr/2023, Oklahoma, 6-0, 227 (DS#4 P) + More +

There is a first time for everything and it is the Arizona State football program getting benefit of what is believed to be a first for the NCAA. Punter Michael Turk declared for the NFL draft and signed with an agent but was ultimately not selected or signed by any team as an undrafted free agent. The school applied for a special waiver in hope of getting Turk's eligibility restored. The school cited the coronavirus pandemic as special circumstances since ASU's Pro Day was canceled. The pandemic also prevented Turk, and others, from having private workouts for teams which is a usual occurrence in advance of the draft.

Turk did attend the NFL combine in Indianapolis in February before the shutdown of sports. He opened eyes with his 25 reps bench-pressing 225 pounds going viral in social media circles since that was better than some linemen. But he had a lackluster showing in other areas which hurt his draft stock. An ASU spokesman said Wednesday that the school was notified that its request was approved and that Turk would be able to return. It is the first time he NCAA has granted that for a player who had declared, signed with an agent and gone through the process. - Arizona Republic
