  08/22/20 - *Creed HumphreyrJr/2021, Oklahoma, 6-4, 302 (DS#1 C) + More +

Creed Humphrey had two solid reasons to end his Oklahoma football career early. The All-American center had the option to kickstart his NFL career following 2019. Humphrey chose to return to school, announcing his intention to stay in Norman in January. Humphrey, a Shawnee High School product, cited in a tweet that playing at OU had been a dream ever since he could remember and felt there was a chance for the Sooners "to do something very special this year" as to why he came back. The 2019 Rimington Trophy finalist, an award annually presented to the nation's top center, remains solid with his decision. "There was never really any thought of me opting out," Humphrey said during a Zoom video conference with media on Friday. "I came back to play this fall. That's my goal and that's what I planned to do no matter what."

Humphrey's decision solidifies an OU offensive line that brings back all of its 2019 starters. OU returns tackles Erik Swenson and Adrain Ealy and guards Marquise Hayes and Tyrese Robinson to complement Humphrey at center. The group went through a few growing pains as they replaced 2019 NFL draft picks Cody Ford, Ben Powers, Bobby Evans and Dru Samia last season but eventually became a dependable an strong unit. Humphrey is confident the Sooners' 2020 offensive line is just as good as it was when he first took over as the team's starting center in 2018 alongside Ford, Powers, Evans and Samia. "This group has as much talent as any group since I've been here," Humphrey said. - Norman Transcript

  08/22/20 - Kennedy BrooksrSr/2022, Oklahoma, 5-11, 209 (DS#12 RB) + More +

Oklahoma running back Kennedy Brooks will reportedly sit out the 2020 season, according to The Athletic. Brooks, nor OU, has yet to publicly comment on the report; although, he's no longer listed on the Sooners' online roster. OU receiver Charleston Rambo was asked about Brooks' potential departure during a Zoom media session on Friday. There doesn't appear to be any animosity between Brooks and his teammates. "He has his reasons but we just have to go with the flow and go with what we have you know? It's between him and God," Rambo said. "That's his decision and we're with him on everything, and it's no different than what he was when he played with us. Opting out does not make him no different than what he's been doing. That's still our brother, regardless." Brooks rushed for 1,056 yards in 2018 and 1,011 yards in 2019. He has also recorded 18 career touchdowns and averaged 7.5 yards per carry. - Norman Transcript

  08/20/20 - Eric GraySr/2023, Oklahoma, 5-10, 205 (DS#13 RB) + More +

Somebody could make Southeastern Conference football history this season by becoming the first 1,000-yard rusher against a 10-game league schedule. Tennessee sophomore Eric Gray wouldn't mind having that distinction. The 5-foot-10, 205-pounder from Memphis erupted at the end of last season, shredding Vanderbilt for 246 yards on 25 carries and following that up with a 14-carry, 86-yard showing in the Gator Bowl against Indiana. Gray earned MVP honors with his performance in Jacksonville but knows that averaging 100 yards per week against league opposition would be quite the task.

"We're going to have to take care of our bodies for sure for that to happen, and it would be a great thing to do," Gray said Thursday on a Zoom call. "If you can go out there and play 10 straight SEC games and go out there and put 1,000 yards up - who knows? Maybe you can put 2,000 yards up. "If you can go out there and prove that you're that back playing 10 SEC games - no one has ever done that. If you could be the first to do it, that would be pretty special." Tennessee's last 1,000-yard rusher was Jalen Hurd, who tallied 1,288 yards in 2015. - Chattanooga Times Free Press

  08/19/20 - Trey MorrisonrSr/2023, Oklahoma, 5-09, 191 (DS#49 FS) + More +

"I think someone that's gonna have a really good year is Trey Morrison," quarterback Sam Howell said. "He moved back inside to nickel where he played his freshman year. He's a really, really smart player. He's probably one of the best defensive players I've ever seen." Morrison told reporters on Aug. 8 that he's playing nickel this year, but he played corner last season and Brown said if they need him at safety, "then it's a very, very easy decision" to move him inside. "Playing corner helped me a lot with my man-to-man skills," Morrison said. "In our defense freshman year, it was really man-to-man all the time, so that really prepared me for playing corner a lot. But I think corner helped me a lot in just my man to man and working with coach (Dre) Bly, he's helped me so much in my press man on man and playing the ball and everything." - Raleigh News Observer

Several OU players are out with injuries, OU coach Lincoln Riley announced Saturday. Riley said senior linebacker Caleb Kelly, redshirt freshman defensive lineman Marcus Hicks and sophomore receiver Cason Grant have incurred injuries through fall camp. Justin Harrington, an incoming junior college transfer, is also injured, but Riley noted he suffered the injury prior to his arrival to campus. "Caleb Kelly, Cason Grant, Marcus Hicks and Justin Harrington have all had some lower-extremity injuries that require medical attention," Riley said during a Zoom video conference. "Those guys will all miss a substantial part of the season." Kelly, a former Rivals.com five-star prospect, missed most of last season from an injury sustained during OU's 2019 spring practices. He has played in 41 games over four seasons since 2016. He's recorded 160 tackles, 11 for loss, five sacks, an interception, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries during his OU career. - Norman Transcript
