  12/10/20 - *Wyatt DavisrJr/2021, Ohio State, 6-4, 315 (DS#3 OG) + More +

Wyatt Davis, Ohio State football's All-American right guard, said a bunch of things were "fluttering through my mind" when he limped off the field with a knee injury last Saturday against Michigan State. By Tuesday morning, however, the junior thought only with certainty about his availability for Saturday's scheduled game against Michigan. "I will be all good," Davis said before the game was canceled due to a significant COVID outbreak on the Wolverines. "I will be playing this week. I've been getting a bunch of treatment so I will be ready to go this week, without a doubt." The presence of Davis, projected to be one of the top interior offensive linemen taken in the 2002 NFL Draft, is always important for the Buckeyes. On Monday he was also announced as one of six semifinalists for the Outland Trophy. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  12/10/20 - Tristan GebbiarSr/2024, Ohio State, 6-1, 210 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Oregon State quarterback Tristan Gebbia is finished for the season as the redshirt junior quarterback will have surgery on a damaged left hamstring this week. Coach Jonathan Smith didn't have details on the severity of Gebbia's injury, sustained late in the fourth quarter of Oregon State's 41-38 win over Oregon on Nov. 27. "I know it's a hamstring … (surgery) is the best course of action for him to be able to come back and play this game healthy," Smith said.

Redshirt sophomore Chance Nolan, who started for Gebbia last Saturday at Utah, will take over the position for the rest of the season. Smith said freshman Ben Gulbranson is Nolan's back up. Smith was optimistic about some aspects of Nolan's performance against Utah. Nolan completed 20 of 38 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown, while running 13 times for 36 yards. "I thought Chance did a good job moving his feet, extending the play on some scrambles and kept drives alive," Smith said. "That's part of his game. We do anticipate him playing better in game 2, just like anybody in their first start. There's a bunch of things to learn from." - The Oregonian

  12/10/20 - Tuf BorlandrSr/2021, Ohio State, 6-0, 229 (DS#14 ILB) + More +

From his name to his family pedigree to his fiery pregame persona, Tuf Borland was born to be a middle linebacker. His lasting legacy at Ohio State - textbook leadership by example - came just as naturally. His mother, Jeny, remembers Borland talking about a high school classmate who looked a decade younger than everyone in his grade. Later, she learned that when no one else sat by that student, Borland took the initiative to befriend him. It was not the first time he had helped a classmate with a disability or who was struggling in the classroom. "Tuf is one of those people that it comes to naturally - he's just a leader," OSU center Josh Myers said. "It could be finger painting and he would be a leader at that somehow. That's just who he is. He is absolutely a leader of the linebacker room, but he is of the whole team as well." - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  12/10/20 - *Shaun WaderJr/2021, Ohio State, 6-1, 192 (DS#8 CB) + More +

One of the storylines of the first half of Ohio State football's season concerned alleged stars who were not playing up to elite reputations. You could include Shaun Wade in that mix. The junior cornerback twice decided to put off NFL Draft preparation to return fo the 2020 season. His adjustment to the outside was just that - a period of adaptation that required new strategies, perspectives and physical skills. As the regular season concludes this week, Wade has begun to show he can be the playmaker Ohio State needs. He snagged his second interception in as many games in a 52-12 victory at Michigan State.

He also collected four tackles and a pass breakup and shared OSU's Defensive Player of the Game honor with Haskell Garrett. Wade returned his first interception of the season for a touchdown against Indiana. That first career pick-six ultimately stood up as the deciding score in a 42-35 victory. A preseason All-American, Wade came into the season with four career interceptions - three of which came during his redshirt freshman season of 2018. He picked off one pass last season as the Buckeyes' starting slot cornerback. Yet he was disruptive in other ways, making key open-field tackles against the run or occasionally blitzing off the edge. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  12/09/20 - Chris OlaveSr/2022, Ohio State, 6-1, 185 (DS#3 WR) + More +

The Big Ten Conference dropped its six-game minimum requirement for the league championship game Wednesday, clearing that way for No. 3 Ohio State to take on No. 15 Northwestern in another chance for the Buckeyes to burnish their playoff credentials. The Buckeyes (5-0) will try for their fifth straight conference title when they face the Wildcats (5-1) in Indianapolis. Ohio State finished the regular season with only five games after Michigan had to pull out of Saturday's showdown because of COVID-19 issues. The rule change had to be approved by the Big Ten Conference Administrators Council, which includes athletic directors, senior women's administrators and presidents from all 14 schools. - AP College Football

  12/09/20 - Tyreke SmithSr/2022, Ohio State, 6-3, 255 (DS#16 DE) + More +

Sacks aren't the only thing that makes up a great edge rusher. They surely help, but something just being felt on a play can be a quality alternative. That's what Chase Young was in 2019, and it's what the Buckeyes have been missing this season. Tyreke Smith might be the answer to that, and the win against Michigan State might be the first step toward that for him and the Buckeyes. For the last two years, coaches and players have spoken highly of Smith, believing that he could have the type of impact other defensive ends in Larry Johnson's tenure have had.

He flashed as a sophomore but spent the bulk of the season dealing with injuries. The opportunities weren't there as often. He's had them this season as part of a five-man rotation, but he hasn't done much with them. "You have to think he's only played four games, and he didn't play very much last season because he was hurt. Now he's getting a chance to play more games and more snaps," Johnson said. "The more snaps he's playing, the better he's getting, and you saw that today. You leave him on the field for 20-35 snaps, he's going to make a play." Smith recorded three tackles, one tackle for loss and a sack against the Spartans. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  12/08/20 - *Justin FieldsJr/2021, Ohio State, 6-3, 227 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Citing a rising number of COVID-19 cases in its program, Michigan canceled its annual showdown with Ohio State on Tuesday as college football lurches toward the end of the season without one of its cornerstone rivalry games. The season-ending grudge match known as "The Game" won't be played for the first time in 102 years. "The number of positive tests has continued to trend in an upward direction over the last seven days," Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said. “We have not been cleared to participate in practice at this time. Unfortunately, we will not be able to field a team due to COVID-19 positives and the associated quarantining required of close contact individuals. This decision is disappointing for our team and coaches but their health and safety is paramount, and it will always come first in our decision-making." The third-ranked Buckeyes played through what coach Ryan Day called a “mini outbreak" last Saturday in a 52-12 win at Michigan State after he was relegated to watching the game from home. Day is among the coaches and players in the program that tested positive for the coronavirus, leading to Ohio State canceling a game at Illinois. - AP College football
