Sacks aren't the only thing that makes up a great edge rusher. They surely help, but something just being felt on a play can be a quality alternative. That's what Chase Young was in 2019, and it's what the Buckeyes have been missing this season. Tyreke Smith might be the answer to that, and the win against Michigan State might be the first step toward that for him and the Buckeyes. For the last two years, coaches and players have spoken highly of Smith, believing that he could have the type of impact other defensive ends in Larry Johnson's tenure have had.

He flashed as a sophomore but spent the bulk of the season dealing with injuries. The opportunities weren't there as often. He's had them this season as part of a five-man rotation, but he hasn't done much with them. "You have to think he's only played four games, and he didn't play very much last season because he was hurt. Now he's getting a chance to play more games and more snaps," Johnson said. "The more snaps he's playing, the better he's getting, and you saw that today. You leave him on the field for 20-35 snaps, he's going to make a play." Smith recorded three tackles, one tackle for loss and a sack against the Spartans. - Cleveland Plain Dealer
