2020 ALL-BIG TEN FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): OG Wyatt Davis, Ohio State,...Davis led a well-represented group on the offense line who were first team All-Big Ten by either the coaches or media. Center Josh Myers, who has started 18 of the last 19 games, was named first team all-conference by the coaches. Left tackle Thayer Munford, a senior and a 30-game starter over the last three years, was on both the coaches and the media first teams. Nicholas Petit-Frere (second team) and Harry Miller (third team) were both all-Big Ten selections by the coaches, meaning all five Ohio State starters earned all-conference accolades. - Ohio State Football

2020 BIG TEN RIMINGTON-PACE OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE YEAR: Wyatt Davis, Ohio State,...Two Ohio State football captains earned major postseason awards from the Big Ten Conference on Tuesday. Quarterback Justin Fields was named the Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year and the league's Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year while right guard Wyatt Davis took home honors as the Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year. Fields and Davis were among nine Buckeyes on offense who made either a first, second or third All-Big Ten team. - Ohio State Football

Wyatt Davis, Ohio State football's All-American right guard, said a bunch of things were "fluttering through my mind" when he limped off the field with a knee injury last Saturday against Michigan State. By Tuesday morning, however, the junior thought only with certainty about his availability for Saturday's scheduled game against Michigan. "I will be all good," Davis said before the game was canceled due to a significant COVID outbreak on the Wolverines. "I will be playing this week. I've been getting a bunch of treatment so I will be ready to go this week, without a doubt." The presence of Davis, projected to be one of the top interior offensive linemen taken in the 2002 NFL Draft, is always important for the Buckeyes. On Monday he was also announced as one of six semifinalists for the Outland Trophy. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

2020 OUTLAND TROPHY SEMIFINALIST: Wyatt Davis, G, Ohio State (6-4, 315, Jr., Bellflower, Calif.): Davis is at the forefront of an offensive line that guides one of the country's most explosive offenses. The Buckeyes in five games played are fourth nationally in scoring offense at 46.6 points per game and sixth nationally in total offense at 536.4 ypg while leading the Big Ten in rushing at 233.2 ypg. The interior protection by Davis, a second-team FWAA All-American last year, has been stellar as Justin Fields moved to fourth in the nation in quarterback efficiency while completing 79 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns against only three interceptions. Ohio State has four Outland winners in its past, started off by guard Jim Parker in 1956. Middle guard Jim Stillwagon (1970) and offensive tackles John Hicks (1973) and Orlando Pace (1996) have won it since. Center Billy Price is the Buckeyes' most recent semifinalist in 2017. - Greater Omaha Sports Committee

Five days after a declaration for the NFL draft and opt out of a postponed Big Ten season, Ohio State right guard Wyatt Davis announced he is opting back in. Davis reversed course hours after the conference announced it would reinstate a football season that begins in late October, ending 36 days of uncertainty over the fate of games in the months ahead. "I want Buckeye Nation to know that I want to play this season for Ohio State," Davis tweeted, "and I am working now to make that a reality." It was unclear how last week's announcement could have impacted his eligibility for a season, though he had not revealed that he had signed with an agent despite the declaration. He was entering his fourth season at Ohio State. A potential return of Davis brings back a preseason All-American into the fold for the Buckeyes, furthering their pursuit of a national championship and bolstering an offensive line to protect star quarterback Justin Fields. Since his departure last week, Davis had not been practicing with the team, which has been allotted 12 hours a week of football-related activities, including five hours of non-contact practices. - Columbus Dispatch

As top college football players across the country declined to play the 2020 season in order to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft, Ohio State's national championship-aspirant unit remained intact. That changed Friday morning when Buckeyes offensive lineman Wyatt Davis told Yahoo's Pete Thamel that he will opt out of whatever season the Big Ten implements next. Davis, a redshirt junior guard coming off an All-American season and expected to be one of the top linemen drafted next spring, told Thamel the decision was "heartbreaking." He said he and his family waited to hear good news from the Big Ten about a possible fall season but pulled the trigger after receiving none. Davis told Yahoo he informed OSU coach Ryan Day of his decision on Thursday. He did not specify if that conversation occurred before or after Day released a statement criticizing the Big Ten for its poor communication since the cancellation of fall sports and pushing for a mid-October start to the replacement season. - The Plain Dealer

2020 OUTLAND TROPHY PRESEASON WATCH LIST: G Cain Madden, Marshall,...Madden was named to the Outland Trophy watch list, which is an award given to the nation's top interior lineman. He was a breakout player on the offensive side of the ball for Marshall in 2019, as he was part of a unit that helped power a running game that finished second in the league in rushing yards and rushing yards per game. At season's end, he earned second-team all-league honors, but, like Beckett, has been a first-team selection on Athlon and Phil Steele's all-conference lists. - Marshall Football

In a time of a global pandemic that has shut down college sports, Big Ten athletic directors hold daily conference calls to hash over pressing matters confronting the industry. The topics stretch from compliance issues with coaches and players in isolation to the extended eligibility of spring sports athletes after their seasons were canceled because of the spread of COVID-19. But nothing looms larger than the status of the next football season. Over the past week, discussions have focused on how many weeks teams might need to ramp up to play games this fall.

Speaking with reporters on a teleconference Friday morning, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith referenced a time frame that ranged from four weeks to eight weeks of preseason workouts. "They just can't come back and play," Smith said. "Those days are gone." Ohio State coach Ryan Day identified six weeks as the necessary time to prepare for a season during an appearance on the ESPN morning show "Get Up." Day said additional details, including weeks set aside for conditioning versus practices in pads, could be determined over time. - Columbus Dispatch
