  04/05/20 - John RaineSr/2021, Northwestern, 6-1, 231 (DS#6 FB) + More +

FAU's tight end contingent has taken another big loss. John Raine announced on social media that he's entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. He recorded 38 receptions for 343 yards and six touchdowns last year en route to the Owls winning the 2019 Conference USA title and 2019 Boca Raton Bowl. "I am thankful for everything, FAU," Raine tweeted on Saturday. "Excited for the next chapter!"

Raine's departure leaves a significant hole in FAU's tight end unit for the 2020 season with the Owls having zero career receptions returning at the position next year. Harrison Bryant, who became the first FAU football player in program history to be a unanimous All-American after leading all FBS tight ends in receptions (65) and yards (1,004), while scoring seven touchdowns last year, used his final season of eligibility in 2019 and has his sights set on the NFL. The Owls have three tight ends on their official roster and received a commitment from one in February that should be able to contribute immediately. Redshirt junior Logan Peterson, and redshirt freshmen Ryan Cameron and Rahmod Smith are expected to return to FAU next season. - Sun-Sentinel

  03/11/20 - Peyton RamseyrSr/2021, Northwestern, 6-2, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

Northwestern wasn't the only team that contacted Ramsey the day he entered the transfer portal. Former Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio called Doug Ramsey the week before Dantonio retired. Ramsey also heard from several other Big Ten schools, multiple ACC schools and Washington. But Northwestern left a great first impression. In early February, Bajakian and wide receivers coach Dennis Springer visited Ramsey in Bloomington, Indiana. "Honestly, that was one of the main reasons that I felt so strongly about them and wanted to visit them before I went anywhere else," Ramsey said. Other college football coaches visited Ramsey in Bloomington. But Ramsey scheduled his first visit to Northwestern on March 7, and it wound up being his only visit. - The Daily Northwestern

Northwestern has another quarterback joining the competition to revive a passing game that was the nation's worst in 2019. Peyton Ramsey, who played in 32 games for Indiana with 23 starts over the last three seasons, announced Monday on Twitter that he is transferring to Northwestern. As a graduate transfer, Ramsey will be eligible to play this fall. He has one season of eligibility remaining. - The Chicago Tribune

  03/08/20 - Andrew ClairrSr/2023, Northwestern, 5-09, 201 (DS#50 RB) + More +

Nearly every week last season, the drill was the same for Bowling Green running back Andrew Clair. Clair almost always was in full pads with his helmet, but he spent most practices on the sidelines and went into most games knowing he wouldn't play. A chronic foot injury kept Clair to just four games - allowing him to redshirt last season - and for the first time, Clair was watching and not playing, including missing out on BG's 20-7 victory against Toledo. "That was the hardest one," Clair said. "Pregame before the Toledo game, I was in the locker room crying because I wasn't playing. "Since I was 6 years old, that was the first year I ever missed out." When he's healthy, Clair is among the top offensive players in the Mid-American Conference - and the good news for Bowling Green is that Clair feels like himself again. - Toledo Blade

  01/27/20 - Peyton RamseyrSr/2021, Northwestern, 6-2, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

Indiana quarterback Peyton Ramsey has entered his name in the transfer portal, a source confirmed Monday. This is a significant but not unexpected development for the Hoosiers’ quarterback room. Ramsey, the redshirt junior, lost his starting job to redshirt freshman Michael Penix Jr. in the preseason, though he proved to be an invaluable backup throughout the 2019 season and ended up totaling 2,454 yards and 13 touchdowns passing in relief. If he had stayed at IU for the 2020 season, Ramsey could have very well found himself backing up Penix. Instead, the 6-foot-2, 216-pounder can search for a situation where he is more likely to be the starter in his final collegiate season.

Ramsey’s spectacular play in 2019 just adds to a sense of loss. Despite multiple injuries to Penix, the Hoosiers were able to finish the season with the No. 2 pass offense in the Big Ten. Ramsey’s production was especially vital in road wins at Maryland and Nebraska, as well as the season finale at Purdue where he scored the game-winning touchdown in double overtime. On the year, the Hoosiers’ backup surpassed 300 yards passing three times, including a career-high 371 yards at Penn State. Along with his passing production, he was also a daring scrambler, amassing 252 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. - Indy Star

  12/03/19 - Ryan HilinskirSr/2025, Northwestern, 6-3, 225 (DS#45 QB) + More +

South Carolina starting quarterback Ryan Hilinski will have surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. A release from the school Tuesday stated that a surgery date for the 6-foot-3 freshman starter has not yet been scheduled, but he is expected to be fully healthy when the Gamecocks start offseason workouts next month. Hilinski started the final 11 games when senior starter Jake Bentley injured his foot in the opener and was lost for the year. Bentley announced Monday he was leaving South Carolina to play a final college season elsewhere. Hilinski threw for 2,357 yards and 11 touchdowns with five interceptions. He was first among Southeastern Conference freshmen with 214 passing yards a game. Hilinski also set a school record by throwing 180 passes without an interception. Hilinski's father, Mark said his son was opting for the procedure to return "to full go as quickly as possible." - AP College Football
